Team for Burton Albion?

Post by TonbridgeClaret » Mon Sep 24, 2018 6:54 pm

Hopefully will rest a few for the league but still field a strong side. I’d go with
Heaton, Bardsley, Long, Mee, Ward, JBG, Hendrick, Defour, McNeill, Barnes, Wood.

Why do you say that? Surely we want to keep some of the momentum from Saturday going, and heaven forbid, maybe attempt to reach a cup final?

Surely we won't risk jbg. We don't take the fa cup seriously so why would we take this one ?

Because we skipper a couple of rounds being in Europe. It's an excellent chance for us to progress to the later stages and try and win something.

Exactly - we are in last 32. Chance to be in the last 16 after tomorrow night. A favourable draw and then we could easily be looking at the quarter finals.

Vydra being brought off after an hour on Saturday could have been something to do with his personal fitness statistics and the likelihood of picking up injuries if he played any longer. Not sure he will be risked for this game.
Think it will be Barnes and Wood up front.

Long, McNeil, Hendrick, Heaton will all play I reckon so should be strong enough side. Very little chance of seeing JBG given he’s only just come back and played brilliantly.

Would be good to win the game but mainly for momentum rather than going far in this competition. Despite all the changes teams make its still usually been the top sides reaching the final.

Oh and as an aside did Burton not make many changes in the last round ? It’s not just us not treating this cup as priority - most teams are not.

Strong side hopefully that can pick up from the weekend. A win tomorrow ahead of 2 winnable games in the league and we’re bouncing ahead of our game at City

I wouldn't say the bench from Saturday weakens us that much.
As long as we don't go deeper into the squad.

Is Defour certain to start? Can’t say a lot about Burton hope they aren’t stereotypical lower league cloggers!

Exactly play a strong team and get the job done, one certainty about tomorrow's game is there won't be ET.

Can't see Defour,Vydra or JBG starting, but even without them we should have a strong enough squad to rotate and still win the tie.

Heaton
Bardsley
Long
Mee
Taylor
Hendrick
Westwood
Cork
Mcneil
Barnes
Vokes

That XI should be able too overcome a League 1 side, and if we need to we have game changers on the bench with Vydra and Lennon alone.

And if we get into a comfortable lead we can take players off in the last half hour,Cork ideally wouldn't start but he is one of our creators.

It's vital to maintain the feel good factor from Saturday, and we are due a cup run surely.

It will be interesting tonight to see how much the management and the board quite want to progress in cup competitions.

They obviously didn't want to do so in Europe this season so is there any point in trying to win either of the two domestic trophies and getting back into Europe in 2019?

I think that premier league football is much more of a desire of the board than a run in Europe.

Defour has barely played since late February, so let's risk him in the Fizzy-Cola Cup against Burton Albion, ( Away ) ....

No !

So there is more risk involved with this game than any u23s game he might play? His first game back for the 23s ended with two red cards in it.

Burton Albion are currently 15th in Division One. If we can`t progress into the Last 16 with a reasonably strong team, then we simply don`t deserve to. Something like the team below would be fine. Personally, not keen to throw Defour in here against a lower league team looking for a scalp -

Heaton

Lowton (hardly tired, is he!) Long Mee Ward

Hendrick Cork Westwood McNeil

Wood Barnes

Winning becomes a habit so play same team as Saturday.our strongest eleven right now.Perhaps change the bench to give Defour a run out.

I certainly wouldn't start Defour but I would give him a run out

Heaton
Bardsley (though I'd prefer Lowton)
Long
Mee
Ward (if fit)
Lennon
Hendrick
Westwood
McNeil
Wood
Barnes

Just give as many players as possible a run out who are not playing. They should be good enough to beat Burton. Saying that though, we are not playing till Sunday, so it might be worth sticking with the same eleven to see if we can continue on from Sat.

Good thing about Sat is that it gives SD a platform to go to the players "thats the level you need, now can you match it?"

And I wish those of you who had the time and the money to swan around Europe to see every game would pick your toys of the floor and put then back in the pram. Football teams lose games, its what happens.

Heaton
Bardsley Long Mee Ward/Taylor
Mcniell Hendrick Westwood Defour
Wood Barnes

That should have more than enough for them. Defour may be safer wide left and would give wingers a rest.

Defour wife left ?
What attributes have you seen in his style of play to suggest he could play winger ? He’d be better at centre half !
Hendrick can and has played out wide - so as Barnes.

Defour needs 45 mins to an hour in the middle of midfield with someone next to him to do his running.

Hendrick Cork Defour McNeil

Tricky thing for us is the lack of a 4th winger. You can make a case for playing Lennon or JBG, but we can't really afford an injury to either of them, and in any event, JBG isn't long back from injury and I do wonder whether at this stage in his career given his explosiveness, Lennon is at his best playing twice in a week. But if Dyche has absolute trust in either of them, then you'd imagine they'd play and for me, that would involve dropping Cork back to the bench and slotting Hendrick into the middle. Vokes and Vydra looks a partnership and I'd give Vydra another hour and the two of them an opportunity to develop an understanding (and Vokes needs a goal).

We can't really risk JBG or Lennon given our next two games but I think Vydra needs game time to get up to match fitness. Both Vydra and Defour shouldn't be playing anymore than an hour though.

Yes keep the same team from Saturday baring injuries of course we need to keep this winning habit and confidence going IMO.
