Not for fielding weakened teams, then.......?
Re: ARTICLE: Clarets get UEFA fine
UEFA fine us for throwing things during the 2nd leg.
I wonder if the FA will fine us for throwing the 3rd round tie at Burton Tuesday!

What a disaster Europe has turned out to be from start to finish!
Re: ARTICLE: Clarets get UEFA fine
But they were not willing to investigate interference with the referee during a match by an owner who has history if this sort of thing. Daft organisation like FIFA. Just another European Gravy Train.

Beating Aberdeen? Beating Istanbul? Equalising at Olymiakos and then putting in a very good performance in the return leg. You honestly can’t think of any positives that came from us being in Europe?MRG wrote:That i can’t think of any positives that came from it yet I can think of quite a few negatives none more so than the effect it had on our league form

Did we make any money out of it? If not, then I can't think of anything we remotely gained that might last for even a modicum of time in my memory.
Re: ARTICLE: Clarets get UEFA fine
I definitely saw a lighter being thrown at the fat basturd.
Re: ARTICLE: Clarets get UEFA fine
None of the performances were convincing, some of the time we played second string players and it put unnecessary pressure on a squad that was already struggling due to injuries.Rileybobs wrote:Beating Aberdeen? The overall benefit of those wins in extra time to the club was the square route of nothing

I found the games enjoyable and watching Burnley play in Europe was something I never thought I’d experience. If you didn’t get any positives from our admittedly short European experience then I pity your bleak outlook.MRG wrote:None of the performances were convincing, some of the time we played second string players and it put unnecessary pressure on a squad that was already struggling due to injuries.

I suppose you are right but that's how it is. I experienced our European Cup exploits in 60/61 and then the Fairs Cup in 66/67 and there are games I can still dwell on and reminisce over even from that long ago. This last one holds no lasting memories at all.

Bet you’ll remember the matches leading up to Europe - and the matches that we played in Europe longer than how much our profit/loss accounts showed for this season.

Modern day football 101.
I've seen Burnley play Aberdeen, a team from Istanbul and OLYMPIAKOS in competitive football. At Turf Moor. 50 years after the last time. 50 years!
That beats 'making money' all day long for a club like ours.

Well I certainly enjoyed my trips to Aberdeen and Athens! The Aberdeen game on the Turf was a great occasion as well. Still think it's a massive shame we didn't get to the group stage.

Nothing at all about their owners storming the referees room and ‘influencing’ him.
The biggest problem facing football is corruption but everyone involved pretends that it doesn’t exist when it’s clearly visible for all to see.

Oh come on before getting carried away - we were fined 5k for throwing ****, they were fined 40k for setting fireworks off. It's like parking ticket vs speeding fine; all done by a different arm of the same body. No conspiracy.

European football for Burnley will live in my memory forever...which may not necessarily be as long as many on here!
However, anyone who has been caught throwing things onto the pitch, should have to pay the fine and take a life ban.
If not caught and you were the thrower of something (I don't expect any of us to answer yes to that), may you wake up tomorrow and feel compelled to hand yourself in to the club and offer to pay the fine....and take the ban. You are s c u m.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets get UEFA fine
First time I've ever replied. Had a great European adventure. Brilliant day out in Aberdeen. Great city and really friendly fans throughout the day/ night. Not so good on the way home when I got a speeding ticket (£100 fine and 3 points) for doing 84 on the motorway. Obviously my own fault for being an idiot... even though there was no one else hardly on the road. Missed Istanbul away but home game was entertaining despite referee. Missed both olympiakos games because I was in Tenerife. Started watching Burnley when I was 3, now 54. Bacup born bacup bred, etc. These are the best days I could ever think of. Now living and working in Preston. What do you think they'd give to achieve what we have? Believe me I know....if we could get in Europe again before I die then it would be more than I ever thought we could achieve. I never ever thought we would get here anyway. Get behind OUR team. UTC

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets get UEFA fine
Can’t believe nobody has mentioned the size of the fine. €5k wouldn’t really deter me from future misdemeanours, so how meaningless is it to a football club. Lawyers fees w
would be more than that.
Whatever the rights and wrongs it’s a pathetic sanction.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets get UEFA fine
It wouldn't have been from watching the match. Two turgid games against the Turkish team. I suppose it depends on what made these fixtures into 'good times'. The extra time v Aberdeen was okay because we won in the end but I can hardly recall anything worthwhile happening any other time.Nonayforever wrote:I had a thoroughly good time in Istanbul and on the Turf.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets get UEFA fine
Really enjoyed the European tour. Couldnt get tickets for Aberdeen away but the home game was very good. Couldnt go to Besaksahir as had an important family event on the Friday. Had a wonderful time in Olympiacos, I was lucky enough to already be on holiday in Crete when the game was played, but it still cost me 700 quid to get the wife and boys upto Athens, for what will be a life long memory for us. I dont regret a penny of it, I suspect the players will have enjoyed it also. Yes it probably has affected the start to our season, but if its another 50 years until we go there again... i aint gonna see it so was glad I saw what we did! It was great, and we will be fine this season also. Enjoy the good times, they aint here forever.
