Robert Regis.
Remember him being lightweight a bit fancy trying things and not working out so not surprised we released him.
Seems like he came, played four games, left, and then disappeared https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Regis" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; wondered if he still lives locally.

Re: Robert Regis.
I remember one of the fanzines describing him as ''the runt of the sporting Regis family''.
Re: Robert Regis.
I kept very detailed records in those days.
Matches played:
18th October 1986, Stockport home, sub for Malley, won 2-0, 1 goal
missed the next two games because Derrick Parker took his place.
1st November 1986, Peterborough home, draw 0-0
4th November 1986, Colchester home, won 2-1 (the memorable 1,692 attendance game!)
8th November 1986, Cambridge away, lost 1-3
15th November 1986, Telford United away, sub for Britton, FA Cup 1st Round, lost 0-3. Oh, that was BAD!
There's a line under his name after that Telford match, which means he left the club. I don't know if he was non-contract, or on loan, or just released - I doubt it was the last, because there were no spare funds to pay anyone off.

Re: Robert Regis.
Though we had an amazing array of "forwards" in that season. In a steady 4-4-2, the players playing as one of the front 2 included:
Derrick Parker 28 games
Wayne Entwistle 10 games
Neil Grewcock 13 games (mostly with Britton and Hoskin on the wings - the idea being presumably that 4th division centre halves would wonder what those little people around their feet were doing.)
Robert Regis 5 games
Leighton James 2 games
Harris (can't remember his first name) 6 games
Phil Murphy 17 games
Ian Britton 17 games
Mark Caughey 6 games - and he also played 2 games on the wing when Grewcock was injured
Phil Devaney 9 games
A true "who's that?" of 4th division football. Grewcock was good by 4th division standards, James and britton had obviously been good once, and there wasn't a lot else.
Goals scored as forwards: Murphy 7, Parker 6, Entwistle 2, Britton 2, Grewcock 1, Regis 1, Devaney 1.

Ah Another name from that pretty awful decade for us Phil Murphy, had a good goals to games ratio but then left quite suddenly as I remember, anyone know why when he was scoring a few goals for us?dsr wrote:Though we had an amazing array of "forwards" in that season. Re: Robert Regis.
Grewcock stood out. As said above James and Britton had been very good players. Hoskin was ok. The rest are not memorable but credit to anyone who played in that final game.

Now we're moaning about not putting our strongest team out in Europe.

“Harris (can't remember his first name) 6 games”
Jason Harris I think, I’m sure he was a midfielder.
Entwistle Caughey and Regis were really poor players. Think Grewcock netted 7 that season, he was our talisman. I recall a 3-1 home win against Lincoln when we actually scored three cracking goals. Phil Murphy, Billy Rodaway and a long ranger from Leighton James (from at least 30 yards), he certainly scored some vital goals for us that year too.

Re: Robert Regis.
Harris was definitely Jason Harris. He was 16-year-old and played in midfield, not up front.
Re: Robert Regis.
It's possible. My assessment at the time was that he was up front, replacing Parker; but it could be that we played 4-5-1 for a spell or Grewcock/James played up front.ClaretTony wrote:Harris was definitely Jason Harris. He was 16-year-old and played in midfield, not up front.
The rest of the team he played in, mostly, was Neenan - Heesom, Leebrook, Gallagher, Deakin - Rodaway, James, Grewcock, Hoskin.

Re: Robert Regis.
A name I’ll always remember because he scored in my first visit to the Turf.
I’ve no recollection of the match itself. Just wandering around the sparsely populated Bee Hole End with my mate.

Wayne Entwistle. 3goals in 8 games. The Harry Kane of his day!Cubanclaret wrote: Entwistle Caughey and Regis were really poor players.
I always remember him for knocking us out of the cup at Bury, that was a bad day.
