I suspect teams at the bottom of La Liga, Serie A etc. aren't very good, probably far worse.
So yes, probably the best.

Re: if that is the Premier league
That's exactly what it is. About collecting points. We got three today. They got none and are now 5 points behind us. It doesn't matter if Colin bemoans his luck because nothing will change for them today. If you are a fan of the 'beautiful game' then don't bother watching us or for that matter probably half of this league because you're not likely to see it. Yes, it was dire today and uninspiring but I can think of many supposed 'giants' of the game, still living off former glories, who would gladly swap places with us in a heartbeat but they can't because they are playing lower league football

Re: if that is the Premier league
The problem with those who clamour for "more attractive football" and the slagging off of our version of "hoofball" and "Dycheball" is that should we actually be mid table in the Championship next season, BUT be playing brilliant, fast flowing, attacking footy (which inevitably means conceding a few goals as well btw), we would only have about 11,000 people turning up to watch and those who were clamouring for it most would probably be conspicuous by their absence. A generalisation, I know, but the point I'm making is that it really is about getting the points and staying in the division. Brilliant passing and exciting footy ain't going to fill The Turf if we're in the Championship, no matter what some might have us believe.

Take out the top clubs from either the Spanish, German or Italian leagues and can you say those clubs at the bottom in those countries are better than either us or Cardiff, for example?
That's how you have to compare - like for like.

Re: if that is the Premier league
That's true. All the European leagues have a small (ish) bunch of elite clubs genuinely competing to win it up at the top and then a large group of also rans below them, just playing to stay in the division every season. Very, very occasionally one of the also rans does a Leicester or a Wolfsburg, but that really is as rare as hen's teeth.

Re: if that is the Premier league
Eddie Howe was playing attractive football prior to his departure, although not winning football, his last 2 home games,Millwall 2-2 draw had an attendance of 11,192,the Sheffield Wednesday midweek fixture had a crowd of 12,122 with i'm guessing a fair travelling support.Dark Cloud wrote:The problem with those who clamour for "more attractive football" and the slagging off of our version of "hoofball" and "Dycheball" is that should we actually be mid table in the Championship next season, BUT be playing brilliant, fast flowing, attacking footy (which inevitably means conceding a few goals as well btw), we would only have about 11,000 people turning up to watch and those who were clamouring for it most would probably be conspicuous by their absence. I don't have all the stats but offhand most of our Championship seasons have averaged 12-14k at most, also where would all this attacking be recruited from,if relegation occurred there would be cost-cutting measures, and with the moneyed clubs at that level, even with parachute payments and relegation clauses triggered, belts would have too be tightened.
If the worst happened and Sean took us down and then left or was fired, which manager would have us playing fantasy football in the Championship, and being successful i don't see a long line waiting in the wings,a couple of suggestions from me would be Paul Cook or Joey, but if either scenario came to pass i'm sure plenty of posters would soon find fault.
Re: if that is the Premier league
I do not understand why the sarcastic "best league in the world" phrase has to be reeled out after every poor game in the Prem. For what it's worth both Cardiff and Burnley would probably comfortably beat the equivalently placed Bundesliga side, for example.

Eddie Howe was,at best, treading water prior to him returning south. Add to those games his final game at Selhurst Park, a 4-3 defeat after leading 2-0, his final wave of the white flag.tiger76 wrote:Eddie Howe was playing attractive football prior to his departure, although not winning football, his last 2 home games,Millwall 2-2 draw had an attendance of 11,192,the Sheffield Wednesday midweek fixture had a crowd of 12,122 with i'm guessing a fair travelling support.

I would love to see a competition that pitted 1-20 in the PL against 1-20 in the Bundesliga, Serie A or La Liga. Home and away to make a winner at each position then total up the points!SGr wrote:I do not understand why the sarcastic "best league in the world" phrase has to be reeled out after every poor game in the Prem. I don't disagree, but apparently all our fans want is excitement and goals,he certainly delivered them but if he'd stayed we would probably have been relegated however.Silkyskills1 wrote:Eddie Howe was,at best, treading water prior to him returning south. Eddie for whatever reason has found his niche at Bournemouth and Sean his at Burnley.

Fulham play lovely attacking football, have spent over £100,000,000 on fancy foreign players plus their wages. And they are currently doing very well I believe.

Most people on here moan. It's part of the DNA of following a club like ours. I just say what I want to say and as for Howe I firmly believe he'd 'thrown in the towel' long before he left. Dyche has a lot of hard work ahead of him currently but one thing I wouldn't expect him to do is surrender.

Does the same apply to clubs fighting 'tooth and nail' to win promotion, get into the play-offs or stave off relegation? A lot of clubs involved in those scenarios,in fact the majority of clubs.thatdberight wrote:This is the language of accountancy, not football.

Re: if that is the Premier league
You're right - but it's madness to suggest that only by staying in this division can it be enjoyable. And if the crowds are down to 12,000 - so what? If you're one of the 12,000 you're still enjoying it and if you're not, it's clearly not that big a thing to you. Many of the games and days I remember most fondly were not played in front of 50K, 30K or even 20K+ crowds.Silkyskills1 wrote:Does the same apply to clubs fighting 'tooth and nail' to win promotion, get into the play-offs or stave off relegation? So yes. I am. His record and ours shows that was more likely than not. And certainly more likely than going down.
We had Stanislas, Ings, Austin, Vokes, Grant, Mee, Trippier, Rodriguez under Howe. All of whom went to, and Rodriguez aside are still in the premier league.
Ultimately it doesnt matter as it worked out for all of us.

Re: if that is the Premier league
Eddie Howe has done a very good job at Bournemouth, without a doubt. I honestly don’t think he’d have got us promoted from the Championship though. We had glaring weaknesses at the back, which Howe didn’t seem too interested in addressing, and still doesn’t seem to with his current Bournemouth side.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Well we went up and eventually stayed up.

Re: if that is the Premier league
Manchester United have untold wealth and the talent to match the ambition of anyone.
In the grand scheme of things I bet Burnley and Sean Dyche are viewed as doing 'okay at the moment'. His comment yesterday about getting 'time on the grass' is probably valid. We may not have spent long in Europe but it probably took over a week of training away from him in real terms due to travelling.
The armchair fans probably don't watch much beyond Top 6 games anyway.

Re: if that is the Premier league
I think the point is that yes, if you take the top teams out of the other leagues the rest would be very average but if you took the best out of the PL the same would apply to us. The question then is, is their crap any worse than our crap and the answer is probably not. If you judge by the TOP sides then we are definitely not the best judging by what happens in the Champions League.Spijed wrote:But is there a better league?

That's how you have to compare - like for like.
Ergo it would appear that the PL is not the best.
Well that's my belief and I'm sticking to it.
