Re: Towels for throw ins
Made me laugh. Colin and Blackwell moaning about how long it was taking us to take a throw in, but every time they got one they stood drying the ******* ball.

It could be worse. The towel could be thrown in.

Re: Towels for throw ins
This morning's report in the Times indicates that the Cardiff long throws in took 8 minutes and 15 seconds. What would Colin have given for more time?

‘Twas delicious that our first goal came from a quickly taken throw-in.

I was shouting at the TV when we were 2 1 up for our players to dry the ball too, if it is acceptable for them it sure as hell must be acceptable for us. Issues like this make my grumpy scale go daft and should one of our players be booked for time wasting I would have had a hissy fit for sure. Great stat from the Times quoted by ClaretPope 8 minutes 15 seconds.

Re: Towels for throw ins
I was amazed how many times we put it out for a throw in our own third thus repeatedly setting up just about their only scoring threat.
You'd think we would have scouted that.

Re: Towels for throw ins
Maybe it was a time wasting measure by us to give them throw ins. We are good at time wasting.
Re: Towels for throw ins
Especially when we made them do the time wasting by kicking it out for their throw ins. What a tactic!!!!!Hipper wrote:Maybe it was a time wasting measure by us to give them throw ins. We are good at time wasting.

Not surprised they were meticulous and took great care over throw ins.
The long throw seemed to be all they had.

At one point they towelled the ball, threw it in, it got kicked out and he towelled it again !
Re: Towels for throw ins
Going back to the opening post, I too thought towels had been banned, anyone know? although I have a recollection that the rule was changed so that towels should be available to both sides, not sure where I got that from.

I feel as though I spent 95% of the match watching Morrison drying a football with his shirt at the side of the pitch. The other bit was us scoring. Odd game all round.RocketLawnChair wrote:Made me laugh. Colin and Blackwell moaning about how long it was taking us to take a throw in, but every time they got one they stood drying the ******* ball.

Interestingly it appears that "rule" if it does exist, came from Colin himself complaining about Stoke...beddie wrote:Going back to the opening post, I too thought towels had been banned, anyone know? although I have a recollection that the rule was changed so that towels should be available to both sides, not sure where I got that from.
https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... ty-chelsea" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Wasn't Stoke's use of towels a form of cheating?
A few seasons ago when Rory Delap's long throws proved one of the Premier League's most potent weapons, ballboys at Stoke City's home games would wipe the ball down with towels whenever Tony Pulis's side won a throw-in. It was something they were clearly instructed to do and the practice attracted complaints from rival managers. After Neil Warnock called Pulis's bluff by demanding that the ball boys offered his then QPR players equal use of the towels piled up by the touchline, Stoke briefly came up with a new system whereby players taking long throws wiped the ball on a towelling vest worn beneath their shirts. The FA did not take any action so the answer is probably no.
