Westy must start.
One of the first names on the team sheet at the moment.

So you’ve dropped Westwood, who played a big part in both our goals yesterday, for a man who has played 60 minutes in the last 8 months.

For the same reason De Bruyne will start at City when he's fit, despite them being top of the league.

We've won 2 of the last 2 Prem games.

Let's change it. Super idea.

He made the bench yesterday and so should be fit on Saturday

IMO

If I’m allowed one.

The thread is about who u think should play at the weekend...if fit Defour plays for me.

What is most amazing is that the ones bemoaning 50 odd percent pass completion wouldn’t start our best passer...genius of shankleyesque proportions

The thing is, we've won our last 2 Premier League games with the same starting 11.

You have to think of player morale, it's not as simple as selecting 11 men. How would Westwood or Cork feel if, after helping the team to beat Bournemouth and Cardiff, they were dropped now Defour is back?

The right thing, imo, is to have Defour on the bench again and let him come on and claim his place in the starting 11 with a solid performance. SD will then have a good headache, as to which 2 of 3 to start against Manchester City. Although 4-5-1 is of course a possibility, but you get my drift.

There’s zero chance of any team changes this weekend, other than those caused by injury (so potentially Tarkowski). So unless Defour can put in a shift at centre half there’s no chance of him starting.

Long for Tarkowski - assuming he's not recovered. Otherwise unchanged.

Yesterday we were never comfortable enough to risk Defour playing his way back and unless we find ourselves a couple of goals ahead with 20 or so minutes remaining the same will probably be true on Saturday. Hopefully we'll find a bit more quality but could be another tight/attritional game.

Westwood made a game-changing contribution and was singled out for praise by SD definite starter.

There’s an argument for that but I see Defour as more of a starter than a sub. We may have won 2 games but we didn’t play well yesterday. Also, the boost of having your best player back can inspire the rest of the team...

I think we would have finished top 6 last season if Defour and Brady had stayed fit...

Sean Dyche often talks up and often refers to the performance of the team. If Sean Dyche feels (privately of course) yesterdays performance was acceptable I for one would be very surprised. We need to take more care of the ball Westwood and Cork were very poor yesterday in that respect. As a performance I hope Sean is looking at more than who played ONE pass in a build up to a goal ,you could have an absolute stinker but manage that.

We only won 2 out of two because Cardiff are the only team in the world we could beat playing like we did.

There is no need to reward the players

Tough one, but I suspect it will be unchanged, unless Long is required to come in for Tarks (in which case, you can make an argument for starting Defour instead of Cork, who has been the lesser light in midfield for the last couple of weeks, on the basis that Long's distribution increases the case for Defour to come in and help distribute from deep).

Defour is a player you'd ideally want against Huddersfield, and he's not really ideally suited to coming on as sub and getting up to the pace of the game, but Westy deserves his place after being integral to at least 4 of the goals we've scored in the last week.

I'd drop Westwood for Defour in a shot.

Huddersfield will sit deep, we need the dynamism and range of passing that Defour gives us.

It will be unchanged, and I can see the reasons why, but I would like to see Defour and Hendrick instead of Westwood and Cork.
A bit more attacking flair going forward is needed, as we don't look capable of keeping clean sheets. Thank God for Hart.

The obvious guess is that it will be unchanged, barring Tarks being injured. And I think that's the right choice.

Completely agree with the logic of that Lancs, but I'm surprised you think it outweighs the impact of dropping arguably our most effective player (alongside JBG) in the last couple of games. Like I say, you can make an argument that it'd be more meritocratic to leave out Cork (which would be a massive call in other respects) and pair arguably our two best passers in midfield.

Surely we start with the same team that has won 2 on the trot, scored 6 (5 different goal scorers) conceded 1. However if it is nil nil after 60 minutes introduce any permutation from Defour, Barnes and Wood to get the goal and the win UTC. In an ideal Claret world Defour comes on provides the pass for the goal and then scores a free kick, thus ensuring he starts at Man City....... ;)

Would love to see Defour as he adds a lot no-one else can in the creativity department.

But SD will likely start with the same team.as in the last two league games.

A better game for him to play is where he can affect the outcome...not sure city away is one of those. Huddersfield at home which was a dour nil nil last season is another matter

I was very impressed by Westwood v Bournemouth Spice (less impressed v Cardiff but he still did well) but Defour is a class above.

Course, if he can maintain the workrate and physicality he showed v Bournemouth then he deserves to stay in, but I think the range of passing that Defour gives us in a game that we are going to be dominating possession is a big plus.

Probably because we've got better players than them and when we are on our game, a far better team than them.

Defour is the kind of player we could do with to open up Huddersfield with incisive passing and through balls. He is better starting and being withdrawn after 60 mins than the other way round where he comes on as a sub and has less impact.

I would be tempted to put him in from the start provided he's fully Dyche-fit, but that's probably what you all expected from me ;)

Would be a tad hard on Westwood, as I feel he's improved, but the extra little bit of class from Defour coupled with his greater compatibility and understanding with Cork slightly tips the balance in his favor.

Westwood could then come on with about 20 mins to go to consolidate things.
