Accrington Stanley
Bravo to them.
1 defeat in 11 games, 5th place with the same 20 points as Sunderland.

Pheonomenal achievement! John Coleman is an amazing manager, for Stanley at least!
Some clubs just have that perfect match. Usually when they have a bit of patience. A la us with Dyche, Bournemouth with Howe.

Re: Accrington Stanley
It was an excellent game and Stanley never gave up trying to play proper football to feet. The last minute goal was the icing on the cake.
Their fans are noisy as well and they even sung a version on Anarchy in the UK with a Stanley theme!
Great evening of football. Their success is well-deserved in my opinion.

I’d p!ss myself if they made the Play-Offs. I’d do it in public if they were to go up at the expense of Sunderland.

Re: Accrington Stanley
Really pleased for Stanley but some of the attendances in that division last night were a concern. At least 3 in the 2ks and 1in the 3ks.
Re: Accrington Stanley
In the late 50's they were knocking on the door of Division two near the top of Div3 North and then it all went belly up-into Div4 when the split from Div3 north and south occurred in ?1958 and then they went out of the league mid-season in ?1961-62 or 60-61 season. I think Stanley spent the entire years of the 3rd division in it.

Re: Accrington Stanley
Coleman's record is almost unique in football I think. They've bounced around a bit in League two but overall his record is one of almost always finishing higher year on year. Understandably they stalled a little in League Two but in general the man has known nothing but forward movement since he walked through the doors (and for part of their League Two time he wasn't even there).
Perfect fit for them, no wonder they call him Mr Accrington Stanley.

Hope they continue to push on. Good luck to them. Would be a great story not just for them and the area but football in general.

Re: Accrington Stanley
Accrington born and bred, have always looked out for their results even when non league, never supported them but wish them all the very best. If Coleman gets them up he should be manager of the season.
Re: Accrington Stanley
I went on Stanley last night and the quality in the game far surpassed what I saw on Sunday at Cardiff. It was a much more entertaining game. Both teams tried to pass the ball out from the back for the large part. No cocking around wasting time for ages. Both teams happy to get on with it. No rushing to the ref over every decision. Really good to see.
As for it being 'noisy' I assume the previous poster is referring to the gang of around twenty lads aged about 15 to 20 spurred on by some moron with a drum. It was tedious.

Re: Accrington Stanley
The football league in general have a midweek problem now with Sky showing every championship game live on the red button and the Ifollow streaming most games for the lower divisions.
All these games will eventually get picked up on the streaming sites for free so attendances will get hit, it's not cheap either watching lower league football.

Tell that to levraiclaret please. He appears to think only 'City' are capable of that and that we should put up with the type of dross I witnessed on Sunday.

Re: Accrington Stanley
Speaking of drums, it's bad enough that you have to put up with it at football matches, but in baseball, the Oakland A's have drum section, too. If they beat the Yankees tonight, you'll get to see it when they play Boston in the next round. Actually, they have an entire percussion section in right field, and they just keep on repeating the same rhythm for an entire nine innings. Truly, a bunch of morons.

Re: Accrington Stanley
Highest League position ever? (Since the four division format.)
Re: Accrington Stanley
To be fair I've watched Sunday league games that had more quality on show than our game with Cardiff.
Re: Accrington Stanley
Depends how you define quality. When the opposition is poor enough, yes you can pass it around, but try that at a level above and it gets a lot harder.Silkyskills1 wrote:'I went in Stanley last night and the quality in the game far surpassed what I saw on Sunday at Cardiff. And yes, in the Prem basically City can only pass it around like that. That's why they completely ran away with the league last season. However, as with the point about trying the same style at a level above, City have found that in the Champions league even their style of play doesn't always work. Lyon recently proved that.

Did anyone go watch Accrington yesterday? Top six now, joint with Sunderland
Re: Accrington Stanley
Yep. I went. Stanley were very impressive with Zanzala causing havoc up front. First time I saw him play he looked awful but was unplayable at times yesterday. Even in difficult conditions Stanley played some good, attacking stuff. Bradford looked fairly terrible though, league two beckoning?Neilhaj wrote:Did anyone go watch Accrington yesterday? Re: Accrington Stanley
Didn't realise it was their 50th anniversary on Saturday, great result and a bigger crowd than normal 3346,though i guess some Clarets/Rovers fans could have been walk-on's,and Bradford i'd imagine brought a sizeable support across the Pennines.
