A friend of mine has a daughter at a school with unisex toilets, except that none of the girls will use them because the boys leave them in such a mess.

Go to canal Street in Manchester. Visit the gender neutral toilets in those establishments then say you want them at the turf.

I went in one at Twisted Wheel reunions in the Whitworth St building. It had become a homosexual night club "Legends", but rented it out once per month. Having women hissing and farting in the next cubicle was not for me. Crazy idea.

The only unisex toilets I have been in are single rooms. They may be occupied by a man or by a woman, but not both at the same time.Rileybobs wrote:Have you never been to a cinema or restaurant with unisex toilets? How about using the toilet on a plane or a train?
You could make the same argument about hotel rooms. All hotel rooms are unisex in that they are used by both men and women; but willingness to use a unisex hotel room does not necessarily mean that you would be happy to used a mixed dorm in a hostel.

Re: Gender-neutral toilets at BFC
Fair enough although I’m quite surprised. I’ve been in countless establishments (restaurants, bars, nightclubs, cinemas, airports) both in this country and abroad where it works perfectly fine. I can see the problem at a football ground where the condition of the toilets often leave a lot to be desired, but in principle the idea is sound.dsr wrote:Not at Burnley cinema, and not at any restaurant I've ever been in.
Re: Gender-neutral toilets at BFC
I wouldn't agree the principle is sound. Because if male and female toilets are replaced with unisex, then either you don't have urinals which means much more water usage and slower throughput, or else you do have urinals which means that females are in a room where males (with their back to them) are peeing. Neither is good.Rileybobs wrote:Fair enough although I’m quite surprised. Especially as this whole thing is designed to address a problem that doesn't exist. People that look like men can use the men's, people that look like women can use the women's, people who could pass for either could use either, people who are women in the historic sense who look like men can use either, people who are men in the historic sense who look like women can use either, and anyone who doesn't fit into these wide-ranging categories or who is embarrassed to use a male of female facility can use the smaller number of unisex toilets that are available - usually the disabled one if no other is available.

Unisex toilets could still have urinals without females having to look at the back of males peeing.dsr wrote:I wouldn't agree the principle is sound. Water usage could be reduced through better use of technology including grey water recycling.
In the establishments that I’ve been to with unisex toilets, the problem they seem to have addressed is inefficient use of space caused by having separate toilets.
You seem to be creating problems that don’t really exist.

Re: Gender-neutral toilets at BFC
I'm very surprised that you've never seen toilets like that, they're pretty common nowadays. In busier places many have one way to urinals (behind a wall/door) and the other way to cubicles with sinks in the middle.dsr wrote:I wouldn't agree the principle is sound. Although I'd say the priority before this should be accessible toilets around the ground for those who don't need/want all the facilities in the new disabled section but do at least need something more than a urinal or cramped, ****-spattered cubicle.
Re: Gender-neutral toilets at BFC
The biggest problem with unisex large scale toilet facilities is that a lot of ladies hate them. That problem exists.Rileybobs wrote:Unisex toilets could still have urinals without females having to look at the back of males peeing.

This kind of thing is rife in Europe, although maybe not common in airports due to the wide cultural mix who use airports.
Re: Gender-neutral toilets at BFC
So possibly at one airport, but maybe not, either way not something widespread so not surprising not many people have used them. I've used ones with shared hand washing facilities but never a fully unisex toilet, not in this country or any other country.Rileybobs wrote:I can’t remember to be honest but I’m almost certain I’ve been to an airport with unisex toilets. We must go different places, I've been to most European countries, some African and America, I eat out at all of those and I have never been in a fully unisex toilet. I’m sure we do go different places. I live in Leeds and one of my favourite restaurants Iberica has unisex toilets. One room, a number of cubicles with a giant copper or brass sink in the middle.Grumps wrote:We must go different places, I've been to most European countries, some African and America, I eat out at all of those and I have never been in a fully unisex toilet. My favourite cinema, Everyman, has unisex toilets. 2 rows of cubicles which have sinks inside them.
I don’t go on big nights out any more but there are plenty of bars and clubs in Leeds which have unisex toilets.
Like I said to dsr, I’m surprised that anyone hasn’t been in a unisex toilet somewhere. They are very common and becoming more so in new eating and drinking establishments. Could be a generational thing?

I think we missed a trick when replacing the seats in the CFS - we should have replaced them with fully functioning commodes... you could even pipe the waste away using the defunct heating system that was built into the stand... no need to have any toilets at all in there if they did that...!

Pretty sure Smacks toilets were unisex in the mid-90s cos it had urinals yet was always full of lasses

The last thing we want is women using the same toilets as us men. Have you seen the queue for ladies toilets at large events when there is a break. We'd have to queue as well then
