What's the issue with gender-neutral toilets? Plenty of restaurants, bars, cinemas etc. have them.

Hi guys, I've started a petition to get Burnley Football Club to introduce "gender-neutral" toilets to improve the match day experience.

I detailed the reasons on the petition but I mainly think it would help portray Burnley itself in a better light, a more liberal, progressive and LGBT friendly town.

I went in one at Twisted Wheel reunions in the Whitworth St building. It had become a homosexual night club "Legends", but rented it out once per month. Having women hissing and farting in the next cubicle was not for me. Crazy idea.

The only unisex toilets I have been in are single rooms. They may be occupied by a man or by a woman, but not both at the same time.

You could make the same argument about hotel rooms. All hotel rooms are unisex in that they are used by both men and women; but willingness to use a unisex hotel room does not necessarily mean that you would be happy to used a mixed dorm in a hostel.

Fair enough although I’m quite surprised. I’ve been in countless establishments (restaurants, bars, nightclubs, cinemas, airports) both in this country and abroad where it works perfectly fine. I can see the problem at a football ground where the condition of the toilets often leave a lot to be desired, but in principle the idea is sound.

I wouldn't agree the principle is sound. Because if male and female toilets are replaced with unisex, then either you don't have urinals which means much more water usage and slower throughput, or else you do have urinals which means that females are in a room where males (with their back to them) are peeing. Neither is good.

Especially as this whole thing is designed to address a problem that doesn't exist. People that look like men can use the men's, people that look like women can use the women's, people who could pass for either could use either, people who are women in the historic sense who look like men can use either, people who are men in the historic sense who look like women can use either, and anyone who doesn't fit into these wide-ranging categories or who is embarrassed to use a male of female facility can use the smaller number of unisex toilets that are available - usually the disabled one if no other is available.

Mixed bogs where I work...no p1ss stones. Just 4 traps..6 inch gap under doors. There's one poor young chap always late for work because he won't leave home till he's logged out...he's that embarrassed at the thought of sitting on the bog 2 feet away from some curvy young bint from admin.
I was straining away on the crapper myself on Monday, when I heard footsteps enter trap 3 next to me...after about a 5 second blow off I was treated to what sounded like a bucket of baked beans being dropped down a well....and a couple more very sloppy air biscuits. ...I couldn't believe my eyes when the new 23 year old petite and gorgeous personnel assistant followed me out through the door...

There's no way I want to listen to women laying cable ..or catch a niff of it in the wind....not my thing at all.

I've literally just urinated in my panties laughing at that!!! (Because I couldn't get to the gender neutral loo which we have in our house to be "in" with the modern thinking, in time!)

I'm very surprised that you've never seen toilets like that, they're pretty common nowadays. In busier places many have one way to urinals (behind a wall/door) and the other way to cubicles with sinks in the middle.

Although I'd say the priority before this should be accessible toilets around the ground for those who don't need/want all the facilities in the new disabled section but do at least need something more than a urinal or cramped, ****-spattered cubicle.

The biggest problem with unisex large scale toilet facilities is that a lot of ladies hate them. That problem exists.

A quick google does suggest that there are some in Malaga airport.

This kind of thing is rife in Europe, although maybe not common in airports due to the wide cultural mix who use airports.

Maybe you aren’t the target clientele for places that have unisex toilets then. I’ve just given you a few examples of places in my home town that have them.

I haven’t made out that they’re ‘rife’, just that they’re pretty common in new eating and drinking establishments aimed at the younger generation.

I think we missed a trick when replacing the seats in the CFS - we should have replaced them with fully functioning commodes... you could even pipe the waste away using the defunct heating system that was built into the stand... no need to have any toilets at all in there if they did that...!
