Hendrick

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sun Oct 07, 2018 12:28 am

Whats gone on with Jeff. Everyones marmite player.

But finally started playing well consistently and arguably our best midfielder this season.

Then gets dropped and barely seen since.

While last 3 games have been good in terms of points, be good to see him back in. Was showing the drive and attacking we lacked today and last week.

7 from 9 a good return. And with the break to come hopefully both he and defour will be oushing for starts.

Expect 5 in midfield at the etihad.

Showed more composure on the ball than our other two midfielders today. I’m a bit surprised Dyche didn’t bring him on for Barnes and go 4-5-1 as the system clearly wasn’t working.

He's our second best 'proper' midfielder behind Defour, so basically, injuries and whatever else considered, he's our best available midfielder. Should be playing alongside Westwood if we're going for a midfield two. Cork was awesome last season but despite his tidiness he's slowing down our play far too much.

What was he doing when he brought it down in his own area under pressure and left the ball for someone else to mop up? Choosing to hold his player off instead of dealing with it.

Hendrick to me represents what this team lacks. He wants someone else do do it. He's great at 5 yard passes but never makes things happen. Always man of the match when we get beat it never instrumental in us winning.

If I could run for 90 minutes I could do what Jeff does.

The type of player that gets MOTM when we lose as he keeps it very, very simple. Does nothing of note in either box, but happy to show for it and pass it 10 yards.

I'd love to see his stats since he's been here, he's easily played 40+ games as a number 10, and I'd wager he's behind Cork contributions wise.

Lowest MOTM points and possibly player ratings last season tells you all you need to know.

Should be starting.
He looked on form this season and lost his place.
Cork and Westwood look way off the pace, but keep theirs.
Defour and Hendrick would be so much more positive in attacking.

Think Westwood has been a shining light this season, I what has been a bang average CM pairing. If anything it'd be Cork making way for any change.

I would agree Westwood has been better than Cork, but he's also been very poor.
He has a couple of moves a game where he looks ok, as yesterday when he got a shot off in the box, and the shot that he got off for Vydra to knock in the rebound. He also set up the 2 goals at Cardiff, BUT take those few minutes out of those games and you have 260 minutes of mediocrity at best.
He needs to play with that attacking intent for the match not for one moment in a match. The team is too negative and the blame for that has to be on the midfield.

I can confirm that I do sit in the CFS, however I don't sit next to any old b4stard sorry.

It just means there's also others that watch football without claret goggles on, and recognise football for what it should or shouldn't be.

I'd like to see Lennon dropped for Hendrick and the formation changed or even prefer Hendrick on the left to Lennon!

Problem with that is we'd probably become even more rigid and predictable.

He brought the ball down under pressure, took responsibility for the situation and laid it off to someone under less pressure to deal with completing the clearance. Astonishing to knock him for that.

He took more responsibility for being brave in possession and trying to commit defenders in his 20 minutes on the pitch than either of our other central midfielders (of whom I'm huge admirers, by the way) did in a combined 160 minutes.

Finally, the idea that we're a team of weak willed so-and-sos who want to pass the buck and not take responsibility...well, we've heard it all now.

Yeah maybe. We could use him in a diamond formation that I remember Jimmy Mullen using for a while which produced some of the best football I have ever seen at the Turf.

It's pointless talking about it tbh because SD is so rigid in his thinking and seems to take an age to react to anything that's not working!
