Entertainment or result
It’s an entertainment industry and that’s why we go. Results matter of course but what’s more important to you.
1-0 ground out win or
3-3 end to end
I’d take the latter

Re: Entertainment or result
3-3 is still a result. Draw every game in a season 3-3 and we will probably avoid relegation so a satisfactory outcome.
How about a choice between 1-0 or 3-4?

I'm sure Charlie Austin scored 3 against Sheffield Wednesday at turf moor and we drew 3..3i was gutted for him, so it's a 3..2 for me. On the Entertainment side yesterday I watched a very attractive lady fill her face with a pie...and thought to myself why?? She had the Ar$e the size of a Barn door.

3-3. In whatever division we're in. Just something exciting. Occasionally.

I’m sure there would be no moaning or demands for change of manager if we drew 3-3 every week playing entertaining football.

Result every time. I’ve, twice, Come off Roker when we were 3-1 up and lost 4-3. Miserable doesn’t describe it.
A 1-0 win and you might not have enjoyed the match but you’ll wake up the next morning smiling.

The stupid questions are getting worse on here.
Is it 2 for 1 on bottles of Absinthe somewhere?

I obviously want a win, although it would be nice to string a couple of passes together in doing so

1-0 ground out win, when we don't have enough points on the board.
3-3 end to end, when we have enough points.

Re: Entertainment or result
Entertainment without the result = relegation. Then less money, lesser players and then less entertainment.
Many people say it’s a results industry and that’s the truth.
Results first, but we do need something more than current performances.

Re: Entertainment or result
Don't see why both is beyond us. You can play well organised pass and move football without abandoning our defensive principles. At the risk of sounding like a broken record a solid defensive organizer in midfield would make us so much more of an outfit, not only does it help defensively but frees our ball players up a bit to play. SD knows this after all he brought in Barton to do that very roll, and he already had Marney who when fit did the roll wonderfully. Had I been manager over the last two windows I'd have sat the board down and said.... this position is my number one priority..... I need one or two off this list BEFORE we bring anyone else in. Issue a memo to that effect, because once its in writing its a weapon if its not actioned.
Yes we need a couple of flair players, but until we get the rock in midfield we wont see just how good our current crop is.

Fulham showing how bad they are at the back. They were there for the taking when we played them.

Re: Entertainment or result
You can the football upbringing us Burnley fans have had when these type of questions are based on us winning
1-0 playing crap or losing 4-3 playing exciting football.
Have we never won playing exciting football or something? Most on here don't seem to think it's an option.

Re: Entertainment or result
It was reported recently that if we did not have one fan and no season ticket sales we would have made £21millions in the prem. If we had a full house every week in the Championship with the current expenses we would lose money. Whilst that situation exists, results come first.

He was the second highest scorer in that game and we didn’t get any points from it
Re: Entertainment or result
I know this is just a bit of fun and clearly the correct and only answer is we want both. But it does go a bit deeper than that. Surely entertainment and results are inextricably linked. Certainly for me they are. If I walk off the Turf having watched a boring 1-0 win then I am happy and will feel entertained as a result. If however I see us get beat 2-3 at home after having watched a particularly enthralling match where we have played incredibly well then I would be unhappy with the result with this impacting on what I thought of the entertainment. Similarly a 3-3 draw.

Re: Entertainment or result
I think that's the point of the question. It's like that for you but not for everyone. And some would agree with you but only up to a point. There comes a time when you're almost looking forward to City giving us a good slap because at least it's good football.Corky wrote:I know this is just a bit of fun and clearly the correct and only answer is we want both. Re: Entertainment or result
We beat Liverpool when they had 80% possession and over 20 shots at goal. They never looked like scoring, and our defensive composure and quick reactions on the break gave us a well deserved win.
Yesterday's performance with similar stats was a million miles away from that.
When Cardiff and Huddersfield can cut us open so easily, when we have no way of turning defence into attack, we have big problems.
The point is, despite the results, our 'football' is going backwards. Sean has been here 5 years and technically we look poorer now than ever during his reign. The same players have shown they can do it in the past, but we need to grow a pair of balls, because we play football like rabbits stuck in front of the headlights. No leadership on the pitch to encourage and organise and bark orders. We need the players to stand up, and after Cardiff you'd think they would understand that. Apparently not.

Re: Entertainment or result
I think the issue here really is how recruited (or didn't recruit) to improve ourselves over the summer. I'll be honest and say I actually thought when it closed that we hadn't had too bad a window, eventually! But looking at it now, I think we possibly didn't try hard enough and we thought most of what we already had were fine and would be pretty much automatic choices anyway. However it has quickly become clear that some are suddenly starting to really struggle and at the same time other teams seem to have worked out how to nullify us. Getting another player of Defour's quality was essential if were were to be more creative in midfield. We've largely stood still and that has inevitably led to us going backwards in PL terms.
