Re: Burnley to shake up backroom staff
Good. We have a major recruitment problem at Burnley which is holding the club back, as proved this summer.
We are now into season 3 of our Premier league journey and technically we are no different, this season we look to have gone back
Lets hope we are looking to widen our network further than where it stands now in Sandwell

Re: Burnley to shake up backroom staff
We could do with recruiting a new European scout aswell as the current one we have got has delivered absolutely naff all so far!

Is a Technical Director the same as a Director of Football? If so this is a good move for the club and would hopefully help Sean concentrate more on the football side of things and allow this person to get deals over the line.

Burnley employing a technical director....who would have thought it,we have come a long way under Dyche...long may it continue!
Re: Burnley to shake up backroom staff
Maybe a few of the critics on here should apply for the job.

There or thereabouts, i'd have said. Shame we couldnt get Mr Ashworth, although i would assume location would have won him over thereCleveleys_claret wrote:Is a Technical Director the same as a Director of Football? Re: Burnley to shake up backroom staff
Why all they wanted was a shake up which now seems to be happening. I know change is a shock for the happy clappers who measure everything by the Orient game but thankfully unlike them this club, its owners, the manager and some of the "negative" fans continue to look to improve and not stand still or go backwardsTall Paul wrote:Maybe a few of the critics on here should apply for the job.
Well done Burnley FC

Re: Burnley to shake up backroom staff
Hopefully this should be for making the role of the MG and SD easier. SD names the targets, MG hands out the funds, Technical Director is left to it to sort out the deals. Plus hopefully sourcing a progression of management for when SD does go whenever that be.
Personally think this could be the first sign that SD is possibly looking at moving on or at the very least having several aspects of his role took off him, and being allowed to concentrate on the football side of things.

What does a TD do? I expect it is different at every club.
Probably end up with an interfering know all, who wrecks the harmony! Fingers crossed we don't.

Just hope its not someone like that crank who buggered off to Rangers. He was great, as long as they were players who had, or were still paying for Brentford.

Is Odabujo the lad from Hull? Had a bad injury and was released. Felt we should have took a risk on him in the summer. For a free and what he had shown previously it would have been a low risk signing....in my opinion

I always thought Dyche would make an excellent Director of Football. He commands respect, lets his coaches coach and controls all transfer targets.

Steve Walsh still available. Sacked not long ago at Everton and was credited with much of Leicesters success with signings of Mahrez and Kante amongst others

Steve Walsh was a disaster at Everton.

Is this a sign the Board are fed up with Dyche only wanting to sign players from the Championship and are looking for some fresh ideas?

Re: Burnley to shake up backroom staff
Lets hope so. Can see us waiting to appoint u23 and u 18 coaches also now. The new man will probably have ideas of how he would want it structuring. Make no mistake SD will still have a massive influence on the appointment which I think means he will be British. Looking at the list of out of work Technical Directors there is only really Steve Walsh that brings the experience that would really make a statement.Lancasterclaret wrote:So I'm guessing this will reduce SD workload then?
Big wages though...sure he was on 20k a week at Everton. At the time of his sacking there were doubts he was earning his 1 million salary. But if he brings his contacts and well known knowledge of the foreign markets then it would be wise move

Re: Burnley to shake up backroom staff
I suspect his role at Everton was maybe bigger than at Leicester, and having overstretched himself, perhaps, he may welcome a role doing what he was best at, on a lesser wage to when he was riding high on their title?Cleveleys_claret wrote:Lets hope so. Re: Burnley to shake up backroom staff
So he'll run the whole system from top to bottom, with Garlick in overall charge and the first team under SD?
Does that mean that SD will still have the final say on transfers for example?

Think that was more to do with Koeman though and how Koeman wanted his own man.Quickenthetempo wrote:Steve Walsh was a disaster at Everton.
Also Graham Carr available - one of the ones who got an 8 yr contract at Newcastle only to have it ripped up after 1 year

Recruitment and anything below the first team squad from that article. SD I would imagine would never give final say on transfers to somebody else. Remember Macpartland...he didnt last long bringing in players not vetted by SDLancasterclaret wrote:So he'll run the whole system from top to bottom, with Garlick in overall charge and the first team under SD?

So he's coming in to lesson the workload for Garlick then?
Makes sense, and its got to be someone SD gets on with as well.
Guess we will see who we get, and what effect it will have on the club.

Back to Walsh... just reading and he was the man credited with bringing Zola and Drogba to Chelsea when he was there. Also born in Chorley so not too far.

Re: Burnley to shake up backroom staff
Steve Walsh was my first thought when seeing this.
I think the aim of Everton’s transfer activity seemed to go against how he’d achieved success before. Everton were clearly looking to spend big and make a statement with the players they were bringing in.
Whereas Walsh’s success at Leicester was in unearthing players that had been passed over or not spotted by other clubs. To me that seems much closer to what we need at Burnley.

I mean, going off his twitter, he looks to enjoy what he's doing atm, but i'd be surprised if a PL role didnt appeal? Its pretty much a role to make his own, and a great set up at Gawthorpe

Just looked...it is a different Steve Walsh...the one you have tweeted is the ex footballer. The other started as a coach in the 70's doing his badges then got into scouting. Very easy to mix up with the Leicester link.ZizkovClaret wrote:I mean, going off his twitter, he looks to enjoy what he's doing atm, but i'd be surprised if a PL role didnt appeal? Plus one being born in Preston and the other Chorley. Easy tp see how they get mixed up

Re: Burnley to shake up backroom staff
Probably a fair comment, KRBFC. There have obviously been a number of problems with recruitment, aside from just the ever increasing market.
On face value, this sounds like a sensible approach and hopefully one of those roles that can pay for itself, in the not too distant future.
I know that Baldwin has had a level of involvement in transfers so I wonder where his role fits into this and if it will mean his responsibilities change too.
