Re: cycle route to preston and cycle insurance
this is my new bike
from on yer bike in burnley
just ridden back on it
to say I am impressed would not do it justice
was £2001.99
https://www.rutlandcycling.com/bikes/el ... ack_383092" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
its a good looking bike and computer is nice and easy to use
even though a bit heavier than my gt hard tail it seems to be quicker if not using battery.
went up a very steep will at 12mph
gear changes are virtually seamless.

Re: cycle route to preston and cycle insurance
My bikes are insured via my John Lewis home insurance, that has a £1,000 individual item though, not sure if you can get higher.
Other options are Pedalsure, Hiscox or Cycleplan. They won't be cheap though.

Velosure is the company. They have a specialist leccy bike policy. Not used them myself so check reviews etcZizkovClaret wrote:I remember spotting something about this in Pop Up Bikes cafe in manc, let me drop em a tweet

Re: cycle route to preston and cycle insurance
Cheers ZizkovClaret....will check that out.
Beddie....only had the bike a few hours but averaged 15mph coming back from Burnley despite saddle a touch to low for me....my max speed was 29mph and this particular bike is just same riding experience as a normal hard tail....I have told mike at on yer bike that if he needs any potential customers to have a test ride then I will try and help out with mine so if you did want a test ride then contact the shop....I bought from on yer bike because I was impressed by mikes knowledge of the many many types of bikes and their exact specs....I told him what I wanted to do and left him to decide.
you can obviously buy cheaper bikes ( one of which I tried ) but the riding experience of this german bike is exceptional....love it.

Re: cycle route to preston and cycle insurance
I'm presume that as you are "cheating" distance isn't an issue?!
If you can manage going a bit out of the way, the number 90 & 91 Sustrans route is probably your best bet. It's well signposted and generally uses quieter roads.

Re: cycle route to preston and cycle insurance
I am struggling at the minute with my breathing which is why I chose now to get the bike.....the bike opens everything up for me and I will be riding as a normal bike without motor on for majority of time but motor will stop me struggling to breath on those bad hills....hoping the increased time in the fresh air and getting those lungs pumping will help my breathing to get back on track....still recovering from aesophogusitiis and taking medication for that....asthmatic as well with cold air triggers so next few months would have been bad news without that turbo when I need it.
For me this bike will increase my exercise and open up new routes....the exact opposite of what some people think so looking forward to it...utc.

Re: cycle route to preston and cycle insurance
Bought my road bike from On Yer Bike and was also very impressed with Mike and his knowledge. He must have been good because I ended up paying £1000 more than I was going to! I don’t think there is a perfectly safe route Colne to Preston but the route I would take would be over Pendle Hill (electric bike!) down into Clitheroe, through Hurst Green into Longridge. From Longridge you can go to the east of the city through Grimsargh or to the north through Goosnargh and on to Broughton.
Regarding cycling insurance have a look at Laka.

Nice magazine rack on the back of the bike on that photo, I remember from my Germany dwelling days all their bikes were fitted with one. At least it will stop your Racing Post flying away

I hope I didn't cause offence by calling you a cheat, was only a bit of fun.happyclaret17 wrote:I am struggling at the minute with my breathing which is why I chose now to get the bike.....the bike opens everything up for me and I will be riding as a normal bike without motor on for majority of time but motor will stop me struggling to breath on those bad hills....hoping the increased time in the fresh air and getting those lungs pumping will help my breathing to get back on track....still recovering from aesophogusitiis and taking medication for that....asthmatic as well with cold air triggers so next few months would have been bad news without that turbo when I need it.

I also hope that cycling, albeit "assisted" does help to improve your health.

Re: cycle route to preston and cycle insurance
no worries thefamily cat
just explaining that these bikes actually get people out and about more rather than less....my rides on my hard tail tend to be 10 to 20 miles but now will be 20 to 70 with no worries about the breathing thing.

Re: cycle route to preston and cycle insurance
Happy, there will be a number of off road/quiet road/canal footpaths and cycle tracks between Colne and Preston.
Canal footpath will get you from from the edge of Colne, through Nelson, Burnley, Hapton, Clayton le Moors, Rishton but with all the twists and turns it's a lengthy journey.
You'd then take the scenic route to Mellor. (More hills but if you're on an electric bike this is no major issue). Then you could head down to Salmesbury Bottoms on quiet back roads bringing you out on Potter Lane and then right onto the A59 towards the Tickled Trout. From there you can pick up sections of the Guild Wheel into Preston.

its actually walton le dale and I have been told there is a road that branches off from that petrol station before going into preston that takes you into walton le dale.....know what you mean about canal route though....they follow the level path so tend to be winding.

Re: cycle route to preston and cycle insurance
Sounds a nice gesture but i really wouldnt let people test ride your bike. What if they don't come back? Im pretty sure your insurance wont cover that. Let the bike shop cover that angle.happyclaret17 wrote:Cheers ZizkovClaret....will check that out.
