Jamal Khashoogi

Post by Billyblah » Tue Oct 09, 2018 11:14 pm

So Khashoogi, a Saudi investigative journalist walks into the Saudi Embassy in Turkey. He doesn't walk back out.
Western powers are demanding an explanation.
If it isn't t satisfactory, does the UK cancel the lucrative trade agreement held by British Aerospace or do we plod along as nothing ever happened?

It's Putinesque. Flouting the rule of law on an international level to demonstrate power. It's not just the power of killing an inconvenient person abroad, but the power to make other countries shut up about it too.

Its about jobs and making money for Aerospace .The. Saudis are evil and repressive but seriously rich.
While we are talking Saudis why are they not sending troops to help fellow muslims in disaster hit Indonesia.?Because there's no money to be made in helping others.

I'm surprised this story has only just made it onto here.
It makes for grim reading.

US intelligence knew that the Saudi's were going to lure him from his home in Virginia to capture him and the Trump administration apparently didn't bother to warn him.

As much as it might be inconvenient for you but it really was his administration's job to warn the guy if they knew he was the target of an intelligence operation.

Your not buying the algorithm theory to generate traffic?

Or a student using this board as a case study for his US political degree.?

You can't not knock his enthusiasm (obsession) and passion (delusional hatred) about Donald.

Give IT a break he just needs some counselling over Donald's appointment, brexit and then a job to motivate him in another direction.

Not good, especially after the Salisbury attack.

Nations are seeing just what they can get away with in this new "Post truth" world sadly, and there will be plenty of people quite happy to believe the bullshit Saudi story when it comes out.

And also bear in mind that this week China arrested the head of Interpol as well.

There must be some reason why they think they can get away with it these days............

Why on earth would they need to warn him ? The fact that he was exiled in the USA
surely indicates that he was aware that he was a "wanted man". Having said that, why
would he even contemplate going to collect a document from there in the first place ?

Because that's what they're supposed to do.

Per Washington Post: "Intelligence agencies have a “duty to warn” people who might be kidnapped, seriously injured or killed, according to a directive signed in 2015. The obligation applies regardless of whether the person is a U.S. citizen. Khashoggi was a U.S. resident."

Simply backed the wrong horse - or te wrong calem in this case. The Saudis and the Qataris are are at each others throats. Taking the side of the Qataris by planning to go to speak at their sponsored event in Washington, he ought to have been more careful. Even so its a a dastardley thing if its proven that the Saudis have killed him in Turkey.

We have a lot to be thankful for here.

The team that went to the consulate has close ties to the Crown Prince, which undercuts the comments from their PR spokesman, a Mr Donald J. Trump, when he said it might have been "rogue killers".

This killing could be the dawn of a new era in government coups.

If the public of the West got themselves organised by creating an online petition stating that they would rather endure the financial consequences of the perpetrators actions, in this case a rise in the cost of petrol, than deal with that countries leader.
If the petition was signed by over 10 million people(UK) and the MPs of the opposition party then our government would have to use sanctions against the rogue leader/ country until their leader stood down in a non violent coup.
If was replicated in every western country it would work with a country such as Saudi Arabia which relies on western trade.

Whilst what has happened is dreadful I am not sure the West can do much about it unless it wants to cut links with Saudi who I imagine would be welcomed with open arms by Putin immediately boosting his sales of arms as well as "owning" a large slice of the oil reserves. The Saudis would also find a regime pretty similar to theirs-kill whoever where ever and no questions asked by Mr Putin.

Wouldn't it have been nice to be able to not give a **** about their threats to oil prices because we fully embraced renewable energy? Instead we denied science and continued to be beholden to foreign countries for our energy and now we can't take the moral position against a regime that should be isolated. Oh, and we'll still sell them weapons because we're a **** country with no principles that can't be exchanged for money.

But it's OK. Next month we'll spend a couple of minutes one morning pretending to give a **** about ancestors who died protecting values we no longer hold, and we'll feel really proud of ourselves for how virtuous we once were.

What? The Trump admistration didn't warn him ? Its the intelligence service who might have done. But why should they warn him? Its highly irregular to walk into your own countries embassy and disappear.

Never mind the Saudis. Did anyone watch the Assads last night? Why didn't the West go and sort them out? A highly murderous regime who gas their own people among others. Obama was a snowflake.

Because it was their job to warn him.

Because Obama didn't have the authority from congress to launch a full scale war against Syria? And if he had done it without their authority (which he repeatedly asked for and the Republican congress refused) it would have been grounds for impeachment.

But sure, "Obama was a snowflake". That's much easier for your little mind to understand so believe that instead.

Would you have a problem if the West sold arms to Assad?

But sure, "Obama was a snowflake". That's much easier for your little mind to understand so believe that instead.
My little mind
And who hell do you think you are Leanardo? You mouth on a lot but it's manly garbage. You know the saying an empty vessel.... That's you.

Obama's legacy? A deal with the Iranians? What was he thinking? Probably like you not very deeply.

As he is allied to and backed by the two rogue and pernicious states of Russia and Iran I would think.it a bad thing.

A deal that convinced them to stop building nuclear weapons, which they were complying with. And all in exchange of giving them back their own money and lifting sanctions. A pretty great deal for someone not thinking very deeply.

And yes, your little mind, because it's small minded fools like you who swallow the **** you clearly have gobbled up like a starving dog.
