Adam Blacklaw against Sunderland would be my guess.
No idea of the year.

Great photo, Rammy. Not seen that one before, obviously taken by a photographer behind the Cricket Field End goal.

Think it's the 3-3 draw against Sheff Wed in the '59/'60 season with Adam in goal.

Can't be Adam surely - he never conceded any goals :D

Terrific picture

The person who posted it thought Sheffield Wednesday about 1960

They look like wooden goal posts, looking almost square with rounded corners. A bolt going through the post to hold on to the crossbar.

The back stanchions are triangular instead of the more round ones I remember later. Most clubs employed the ones that went down to the ground so we were a bit unusual in this. I guess that was because of the lack of ground behind the goal.

Re the stanchions. We had very similar ones to those in the picture throughout the 70's, when everyone else seemed to have "full" ones which went down to the ground. I was never sure why back then, but I wonder if (as mentioned above) it was to do with a lack of room behind. I always remember Taffy scoring with a blistering shot V Everton and the ball wedged stuck in the triangular stanchion.

Not even sure that it is on the Turf. The end behind the goal looks open - therefore it can’t be the cricket field end and the far side doesn’t look like the old Brunshaw Rd stand either. So, was it away?

Those stanchions were quite unusual. I was so taken with them as a lad that I converted my "full" Subbuteo goals into Turf Moor ones. A hacksaw and a bit of Airfix glue - job done !

I actually preferred those nets which hung down as the ripple of the net looked so much better.

That's what happened most of the time. No ticket games unless we reached the latter stages of the FA Cup.

If it's Wednesday that could be Johnny Fantham?

Every time I tilted the picture to try and get a proper look, the picture moves with me so I ended up thinking it was Colin McDonald.

Great imagine.

Reverse look up says:

'Burnley v Sheffield Wednesday league match at Turf Moor 2nd April 1960 Burnley goalkeeper Adam Blacklaw'

Definitely the wrong way in the op. The roof support of the cricketfield end would be at the corner flag, seen in this photo.

Yes I agree. Finished 3-3 after being 0-1 at half time.

Came across a match report last night.

The Wednesday player in the photo is Keith Ellis and he is scoring their opening goal in the 3rd minute past Adam. That remained the score until half-time and John Connelly equalised in the 55th minute but they then scored twice to go 3-1 in front with Alan Finney and Bobbie Craig the scorers. Jimmy Mac then converted a penalty for us before Brian Miller levelled the scores at 3-3 in the 88th minute.

The match turned out to be the last ever game for Bobby Seith at Burnley after some 11 years service and he left in controversial circumstances at the end of the season. I have a picture of Barry Kilby presenting him with his First Division Championship medal many years later but I can't bring it to hand.

Before the match in the photo, on 2nd April 1960, we were third in the First Division behind Tottenham and Wolves with Wednesday in fourth. One month later we hit the top spot for the first time in the season and were crowned First Division Champions on the 2nd May at Manchester City.
