ROI vs Denmark

Post by Duffer_ » Sat Oct 13, 2018 8:46 pm

Kevin & Jeff playing. 0-0 HT.

Denmark were trying to put it out for a throw (due to injury), Jeff took it off the defenders toe, went through one on one with Schmeichel...and put it wide. Danish players going bezerk at him but he just looked a bit puzzled. Poor lad.

The Danes look toothless without Eriksen's presence, not that they are a one-man-band.

Ireland are a poor side.

They make England look like world champions.

International football in general is in the doldrums, apart from Belgium and possibly France, there is few countries that excite,Germany got hammered 3-0 by the Dutch tonight,a Dutch team that finished 3rd in their recent World Cup qualifying campaign.

Collectively, we can pretty much forget football. Why are some people still watching the sport?

You say, "apart from Belgium and possibly France" - Belgium got beat by France and France drew against Iceland.

We created more chances than Croatia - Croatia got to the final of the World Cup 2018... yet people are complaining that we drew against Croatia? Why?

ROI were perfectly set up for the counter...well, apart from the invention, pace, intent, creativity, ambition and...well, attack.

Off topic but I'm warming to the Nations League.

There is a danger that International football will go the way of test cricket, falling attendances, many superstars claiming to be injured,i'll have a guess that a lot of those injuries will mysteriously clear up in time for the next round of Premier League/Champions League fixtures.

I usually watch the England games but missed Friday's match as the Nations League is a pointless competition, really it's no more than glamorised friendlies.

In terms of England's results against Croatia, you could argue that England have drawn twice over 90 minutes with the 2nd best team in world football, and yet as you stated some people still complain.

Sadly club football rules the roost nowadays, more specifically the Champions League, apparently Gareth Bale won't be risked in Wales next match,as Real Madrid are monitoring his fitness.

The clubs can argue with some validity that they pay the wages, and so should have the final say over their employees.

Walters in the studio, with left foot in a support boot.

Kevin Long did alright considering he played on the left of a back 3

For most of the higher-ranked nations yes,as they will qualify for the Euros in the normal manner. The advantage for Gareth is he can blood some of the promising youngsters like Jadon Sancho/Ben Chilwell and give them experience,it didn't help the game being played behind closed doors, but that wasn't of England's making.

So it's not pointless then?

I'm sorry, but it adds a competitive edge, as there is (in our case) a relegation to avoid. People whinge about friendlies, and when something is attempted to change some friendlies into a more competitive game, people STILL complain. It's rather pathetic. This is a GOOD thing - it's better than friendlies. It gives players some competitive International football.

That much is true,i don't think the format helps, and many fans don't understand this tournament yet,i certainly don't,bizarrely it may benefit England to drop down a level,as this potentially could lead to an easier qualifying path. :?

As a long-time follower of the Danish national side, I can confirm that we're a long ways from the days of "Danish Dynamite". Most sides play in some form of a system, with little left to individual initiative. In other words, the game's been coached to death. Sad, but true.

As long as all the nations involved take it seriously, I suppose.

Ward has gone to see a specialist regarding his persistent knee injury . I doubt you will see much of him this season

Because of his injury or because Taylor will keep out of the team? Where has he actually gone to see this specialist?

It was awful from start to finish. I though Long played well enough, made a few tackles. Denmark didn't look bothered either. I am going nowhere near the match on Tuesday and also avoiding the NI match next month. It is just grim, has been grim for years. No idea why I ever expect anything else.

The seedings for the Euros qualifying will be based on Nations League results and nothing else.

If we want to be a seeded side we need to not get relegated.
