I'll tell you what; womens intuition! My wife saw her on the news at the wedding and said she is carrying herself like she is pregnant. Well I never did, it looks as though I now have another mouth to feed.

Well played Mrs Corky...now ask her if she knows the score for our game at City as I fancy a possible upset and thinking of placing a bet
Agree not only another mouth for us all to feed but not helping with climate change with more emissions from said sprog.

Apart from big wheels we don't build tourist attractions anymore, I know the Russians like the odd cathedral spire but seriously we would become a worthless society.

Congratulations to the couple. I'm ambivalent towards royals generally but I like Harry & wish him and his well.
I have some admiration for M M too - if only for the way she's made certain types of Express/Mail readers froth because she's: a) American and b) (even worse) mixed race. She seems to have plenty of dignity (considering what her father & his clan are like- she's done well to turn out so well).

Yet another one on the taxpayers payroll. People go on and on about the money they bring in, yet we only get about 40% of the tourist numbers France gets!

Exactly. If the Royal Family disappear it doesn't mean all the palaces and buildings of interest disappear! Tourists would still come to the UK. It's not as though they come here to have tea with any of the RF.Spijed wrote:And what money DO they generate?

Re: She’s up the duff..I new it.
The logic that says - France has no royals, UK has royals, France generates more tourist income than Uk; thus deduce having no royalty is better for tourism - is erroneous.
As in...... Venezuela has no royals, UK has royals, UK generates more than Venezuela from tourism; thus having royals is good for tourism.
In any case, I think London gets more visitors than Paris (albeit France gets more than UK).

The West End beats anything that Paris or Berlin can offer of a similar nature.
But then again, aside from the Eiffel Tower does Paris have anything else that you could say is better, or Berlin for that matter?

Paris has a better reputation for the City of romance, food, the tower and Euro Disney.
If I wanted to go abroad to watch a show then New York and Vegas would be the first two that spring to mind.

Re: She’s up the duff..I new it.
If we get 'rid' of the royal family then we would need a president, who do you suggest President Blair, President Major or President May?
Also if we didn't have a royal family then Lizzy and Charles will still be just as wealthy, if not more so than today because they are the biggest landowners in the country unless your suggesting we do a Zimbabwe type of land grab from them?. All you would be doing is taking their accountability to the country from them. If they then put all their wealth in off shore accounts, the country would be poorer not richer, besides the Queen would still be a Queen, Prince Charles would still be a Prince so what exactly would be achieved? all you will have achieved is another group of hangers on with Presidents and ex presidents.

No but we would be about £1.8 billion worse off, that the Royal Family generate each year and it's not just a financial thing, it's a moral and aesthetic one too.So you think that if we didn't have a Royal family the tourist industry in London and the rest of the UK would collapse?
We have the most fascinating history in the world in my opinion and the Royal Family are intertwined with that to almost having a mythical feel for both UK and foreign visitors to London, especially the Japanese and Americans.
You'd have to be pretty stupid to say they are not the biggest draw to overseas visitors to the UK and plays a big part in why UK visitors go to London.
If you speak to people abroad they almost always mention them and their even seems to be a sense of envy from some countries. Regardless of how people feel about the Royal Family, they are a brand and a bloody good one, far more recognised in the world then any other country's Royal Family.
I don't think we will realise how important they where to us until they are gone which won't be happening for a very long time and for me they are one of the few positives we have left!

Morals and the royal family in the same post. Liz and Fileeep go through a rough patch and he goes off to Spain where it is alleged that he fathered a couple of children (my wife told me this so it must be true). Apparently that is why there is a gap in ages between Ann and Andy. He advises Charlie boy on marrying Diana and says that it is OK to have a mistress because that is what Royals do. So Charlie boy continues his affair. With the current set up Charlie boy will be head of the CofE. Really.
I know lots of Americans through my record dealing and you are right they all think the royal family are wonderful, up to a point. But when you point out what that actually means and ask them if they would like to have a constitutional monarch in America the answer is a resounding No.
I wonder how many royalist also like the idea of the established church, Bishops in the House of Lords, the HofL itself with its 800 plus unelected so called experts.
The royal family are corrupt and they corrupt our society in the way they hold it back in some sort of outdated feudal system with them at the top of the establishment looking down on us peasants.
And, I'm not a left winger just someone (I hope) with a bit of common sense who wants this country to modernise.

I know far more people that have been to Euro Disney than Florida. Incidentally Florida was opened to be more accessible to Europeans than the further flight of California.

I’ve been to both and their is very little comparison - Euro Disney is like Burney Fair at Townley compared to Florida !
Euro Disney is good for a couple of days with the kids - the rest of Paris personally I don’t think is great for children. Florida has many other attractions and theme parks which are great for kids and adults and there is more than enough to do to fill 2 weeks.

It's true about the yanks.
My cousin thinks the Royal Family are wonderful.
She thinks Trump is wonderful too.
And guns.
They may or may not bring in £1.8b...but I'd wager if we built a nice big guillotine on the pitch at Wembley and marched one of the spongers in every Saturday afternoon, we'd need a bigger country to fit the crowds in.

Re: She’s up the duff..I new it.
I will however give credit where credit is due. When he created the House of Windsor in 1917, King George V who wanted to distance himself from his German relatives, who he was at war with, he decided to place limits on the size and scope of the Royal Family. And as a result of this Harry and Meghans children will not be Royals as in HRH. If a boy it will be a Duke and if a girl it will be a Lady.
So fair play to him for that, it is just up to us to start the next step and erode away at all the hangers on and the establishment they underpin.

Re: She’s up the duff..I new it.
That’s definitely a “glass half full” view there Corky.
They might not have letters before there name but in every other respect they are regarded as royals and enjoy those same privileges. Born into privilege, wealth and undeserved advantage and then spend the rest of their life enjoying the same.
Just not necessary to have the extended set of royals and associated expense we do. I know those that support the monarchy always bring up the positive net tourist income the royals bring (though personally I think these are spurious figures anyway) but even if you believe this to be correct if the royal family was a lot smaller would it make any difference to those daft yanks ? We could make Mr Blobby king and tell them Jimmy Krankie was the rightful heir and they would still have no clue.
