Re: Mark Warburton
Had a quick look at the job spec
1) Sign players from English Leagues
2) Try to sign players from WBA
3) Dont spend anything until last week of the window therefore saving a few weeks wages
4) Try to sign players carrying niggling injuries so they arent up to speed for 6 months
5) Signings must have character
6) Be able to memorise such phrases as
"Little old Burnley"
"Market moves away from us every year"
"Never known a transfer window like it"
"We are planning on beating our transfer record this
window" this has to be done whilst stifling giggling

It seems like it's an appointment we need to make, but it's is probably 6-9 months too late.

Step in the right direction, recruiting for such a position and suggests that there have been issues with recruitment.Dark Cloud wrote:It seems like it's an appointment we need to make, but it's is probably 6-9 months too late.

Re: Mark Warburton
Totally agree. I just feel that maybe with the fact that our summer dealings, whilst not being woeful by any means IN THE END, could still have benefited from a bit more "expertise" so that more of our first choices would have got over the line and not gone elsewhere. It MAY end up being a case of "shutting the stable door...."DCWat wrote:Step in the right direction, recruiting for such a position and suggests that there have been issues with recruitment.

Maybe Micky Phelan, if he wanted to return to the area from Australia and back to the football club he started his career at.

Re: Mark Warburton
The only problem has been getting the deals over the line from what I can see and that role is with the chairman apparently.DCWat wrote:Step in the right direction, recruiting for such a position and suggests that there have been issues with recruitment.
I never quite understood this role but it now seems the right way to go provided the manager has the say on who does and doesn’t come in. Never understood clubs where managers just had to accept the players brought in.
Hopefully we will get someone with experience in this role. The only ex Claret I see able to fill it is Brian Flynn but we are maybe looking for someone younger. Having decided to go down this route,it’s a key appointment and hopefully he will last longer than McParland.

You are the one saying "I mentioned him last week" since Boden tweeted about it. Like you have some inside knowledge on the appointment where we all know you have very little clue nowadays because SD keeps his circle do tightClaretTony wrote:Is this breaking news? Have we employed him?

Re: Mark Warburton
Fair point. Although, I get the feeling he is better suited to be a 'Technical Director' or 'Director of Football' but this is just a hunch and I could be completely wrong. Purely basing it on his recent appointments, I think he might feel more comfortable being part of a management team than being the front man, so to speak.Vegas Claret wrote:That would be my concern with Warburton - does he still want to be a manager ?

If you'd bothered to look rather than just taking every opportunity to have a swipe at the club, I mentioned him on the original thread. And I have a lot more clue on things than you think, so you can keep those snide comments to yourself as well. And, by the way, it was me who told Boden.Cleveleys_claret wrote:You are the one saying "I mentioned him last week" since Boden tweeted about it. Re: Mark Warburton
That has to be a concern with anyone who comes in to this sort of role. We want someone who wants to do that job and not someone looking to get into management. Brighton have just got Dan Ashworth from the FA, he'd previously been at West Brom where, interestingly, Warburton was a candidate to replace him but didn't get the job. Warburton did get this job at Brentford, he set up NextGen too with the owner of Brentford, but then he did jump into the opportunity of managing. Totally agree with you that we don't want anyone looking to get into or getting back into management.Vegas Claret wrote:That would be my concern with Warburton - does he still want to be a manager ?

Re: Mark Warburton
It was suggested that a recruitment company was involved in the search for an individual to fill this role when the story first broke a week or two back.Is Mark Warburton the name they have come up with and is the fact that he is a pal of Dyche merely coincidence ?

Wasn't Warburton in finance in the city before Brentford? Would make sense if so.

Re: Mark Warburton
Yup, not a low level position either, so you might think he would be capable of interacting with directors etc on a decent level, however Barton-gate leaves me with some questions about his abilities to interact with playersCharlieinNewMexico wrote:Wasn't Warburton in finance in the city before Brentford? He was, before he went to Watford where he met Dyche. He then went to Brentford as sporting director before replacing Rosler as manager.CharlieinNewMexico wrote:Wasn't Warburton in finance in the city before Brentford? Would make sense if so.

Re: Mark Warburton
If Warburton can get them in and Dyche can man manage them - dream scenario.
Wouldnt have any reservations about the man coming in having ambitions of managing either. Good for them if they do imo.

I would have thought Dyche will have a massive day on who the club appoint, if they are to work together it makes sense.

You might not but SD certainly would.cricketfieldclarets wrote: Wouldnt have any reservations about the man coming in having ambitions of managing either. Good for them if they do imo.
Personally i’d rather not want anyone who has his eyes on the managers job - that is not why we are recruiting the role. Can’t see how that would end up in anything but friction and conflicts of interest.

Obviously he will be here to do this job initially.
