The Democratic Republic of England?

Post by Mala591 » Wed Oct 17, 2018 7:45 pm

Highly unlikely that our politicians would allow us to vote for independence from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales but if we did have a referendum how would YOU vote?

I’d need a lot more information before voting this time. What colour would our passport be?

Russia would love that, divide and conquer.

Also we'd have to out the monarchy to become a republic.

Yup, and after we separate England from the Union let's move on and revert to the old kingdoms of Mercia et al ,sack the pound, bring back the groat and let's have more deportations. You can't beat the good old days.

I'd go one further and have Lancashire independent.

We'd invade and retake Barrow and the South Lakes, build a wall south of Liverpool and Manchester and give Yorkshire back Barnoldswick.

Claret and Blue passports with a big red rose on it.

yes, in times of strife, let's have more division, scots, welsh and irish regiments were slaughtered in the thousands in two world wars, but let the thick have their say and **** history, lets all put a roof and wall around burnley and keep out the padiham militants who want home rule.

I seem to remember reading that true democracy can only be achieved with a population of less than 2000? Seems that’s wrong, as currently it can only work with ‘me, me, me & my wet pants’.

Would create a perpetual Tory majority. Whatever your politics, you don't want one party assured of absolute power.

One immediate 'benefit' (if we voted for independence) would be that Northern Ireland and Scotland could remain in the EU (which is what they voted for). This would remove the ROI/NI border problem.

Wouldn't that immediately just move the problem to the Scotland/England border

There's already a wall up that way, would just need a fresh lick of paint and some CCTV.

I'd keep Barnoldswick, we'll need the jet engines for exports and our airforce ! Actually, scrap that .... with Manchester & Liverpool voting, it'll be a permanent Labour Government so we'll be screwed anyway ! We'll have no Gas when Morecambe Bay runs out as they'll ban fracking, mining and litter the Countryside with more bird killing Wind Turbines ..... ;)

Trying to bolt all these cultures together obviously doesn't work. Regions it is, with Scotland, Wales and Ireland freed up.

Inclusion of the word "Democratic" in the name of a country/state generally precludes that particular quality.
