To be fair Prague is a lovely city with a cracking nightlife and the beers are cheap as you like, so I wouldn't blame yourself.

Zizkov, I'm thinking of paying Prague a visit early 2019. Any recommendations where to stay... Old town, New town, over the river etc.ZizkovClaret wrote:Haha, oh dear.

You'd be laughng in a place on the outskirts, as long as you made sure the relevant healthcare etc was in place. Gets bloody freezing thoughPstotto wrote:... I'm waiting for the cheque to arrive in the post and then I can set off.
Re: Notes from the Prague correspondent

Re: Notes from the Prague correspondent
I was in Prague around 4 weeks ago. We stayed in Lysa and got the train in (cheap as chips). Beautiful city and really quite inexpensive for food and drink. We ate at U Mecanase which was lovely. There was an added bonus that is was burning hot the few days we were there

So one of you had 5 pints and the other one 6. It’s not exactly a legendary session is it.

Re: Notes from the Prague correspondent
Did the Christmas Markets in Prague a couple of Years ago & stayed in The Jury's Inn Hotel.... Cracking city great bars and atmosphere...
Did Budapest on a Danube Cruise.... didn't do the nightlife as we were on a cruise boat... but watched the locals celebrate Hungary qualifying for last 16 in the finals by clambering up the chain bridge carrying glow sticks. Also them running along the river in front of the parliament building .... a certain Gabor Kiraly still playing and retired a week later....
Both have plus and minuses to be fair.

Aye, there are issues for sure here. Everyone has a job, but the very low skilled, manual ones are poorly paid. They are averse to unionisation due to history so struggle to organise effectively to improve their lot.bluelabrador16 wrote:Maybe of interest:

I try to do my bit, help charities and certainly pay my fair chunk of taxes and in return i have a good standard of living here

I would like to clarify that whilst yes, i was waiting outside The Boot for it to open at 7:50am on Saturday morning, I had just got off a coach from London after 8 hours, and just had a breakfast and a coffee.
I am now firmly ensconced back in Praha until Festivus

Don't order pork crackling in Prague
Turns out its not crispy at all, just the pork lard. Thankfully it was a mate who had ordered it, but it didnt look the least bit appetising

I was in Prague for a stag do a couple of years ago when Czech Rep had a friendly match with Scotland. We decided to go to the game but I was shocked and appalled to find that the only beer sold in the ground was alcohol-free!ZizkovClaret wrote:BTW, happy to advise if anyone fancies the trip over next October for Czech Republic v England
We started off stood with the Czech supporters but they were very quiet and the Scots sounded like they were having a better time so we spent the second half in amongst the away fans (no segregation of note).

You know, when i turn my TV on, it usually comes up on CT Sport, the national sport broadcaster. Now, dedicating to show sport 24/7 is quite some undertaking when they dont even have the rights to all the domestic games, so they don't half show some "niche" stuff.
They out-did themselves with today's offering:
European u23 Baseball championships - Czechs v Croatia
