Alien - Claustrophobia, parasites and nowhere to escape to. It's got the lot. Based on a true story too...

Re: Horror Films
Not seen any of the halloween movies in years, but always liked them. You knew he was just around the corner, but he/she didn't.
They would walk into an abandoned house and shout, "Is anybody there?"
Like Michael Myers is going to reply with, "Yeah, I'm in the kitchen fancy a sandwich?
There's a new one out at the cinema, has anybody seen it?

Re: Horror Films
I've just watched the original again today. Not seen it for years. The film is literally 1 hour 15 minutes of him stalking and 15 minutes of killing. Music helps with the suspense too. Not seen the new one yet but it's got some good reviews.FactualFrank wrote:Not seen any of the halloween movies in years, but always liked them. Re: Horror Films
Second vote for ‘The Shining’
Amazing on so many levels.
Recent favourite would be the new ‘It’ had it all.

Re: Horror Films
The original Friday 13th - not a big fan of gory horror movies but still think its the best of the 'teens in peril' genre. especially with the shock ending that makes you jump!
The Shining is a classic, scary without being too gory.
Also enjoyed Woman in Black with Daniel Radcliffe and John Carpenters, The Fog.
Probably more Sci-Fi than horror but the original 1958 version of The Thing is an excellent claustrophobic chiller, bit like Alien but without the gore and the sight of Sigourney Weaver in her knickers and set in a remote Arctic research station rather than a spaceship.

Re: Horror Films
First saw Friday 13th in a packed cinema in York in 1980. As you say, no one was prepared for the final scene and the reaction in the cinema to it was just incredible.Vintage Claret wrote:The original Friday 13th - not a big fan of gory horror movies but still think its the best of the 'teens in peril' genre. especially with the shock ending that makes you jump!

Re: Horror Films
The ending of the original Friday 13th was the single biggest shock in a film ever. It was on again this week and I called my wife in to watch the last 20 mins. The film itself is incredibly tame by today's standards but I actually warned her and said just stick with it until the end.........she jumped/screamed that much the dog nearly jumped on the fire.
The ending of "Carrie" had a similar effect back in the day.
As a complete film though, surely The Exorcist has to win it.

Didn’t like Salem’s Lot when the little guy was floating outside the window. Had to change my pants.

Forgot about Salem Lot, that was a good one with quite a few scare scenes.Bop wrote:Didn’t like Salem’s Lot when the little guy was floating outside the window. Had to change my pants.
I recall that bit where they were in the grave opening up a coffin and the occupent appears to be dead, the camera cuts to the 2 humans then when it cuts back again the vampire has sat up right behind them baring its fangs, nearly shat myself.
