Red Dead Redemption 2

Post by claret2018 » Thu Oct 25, 2018 1:27 pm

Is anyone on here feeble-minded and child-like enough to book tomorrow off work to play this like me?

The reviews are in and it's top marks all round it seems.

Ye-haw!

Is that the Western version of CoD?

Certainly looks good.

I play more Rts stuff like Total War or AoE

It's the same makes as Grand Theft Auto I think. I never played the original but may purchase this one.

Loved the first one on PS3 but my console days are behind me now otherwise it’d be a definite buy.

I'll be waiting the 12 months before it gets ported to PC. Looks stunning on the consoles though.

Console days are behind you?

How old are you then?
My mum still plays on her PS4 regularly and she's getting Red Dead.
She's 59.

Ha ha. I’m 35 but with two kids (2 and 5 years old)and work to do once they’ve gone to bed each night, I’d get very little chance to play. Hopefully, my time may come again!

Word of warning, you'll need 99GB free space on your HDD on disc for PS4, 107GB for XBONE. Digital download is 149GB (99GB game + 50GB installation process, 50GB freed up after the install process) on PS4. Bloody insane, that is.

My son was born just before the World Cup in Brazil. Brilliant! 4 weeks of football

My daughter was born last week! Just in time!

I played the last red dead and loved it. It looks amazing. Apparently it’s that detailed the horses testicles shrink when you go to cold regions

Having seen a lot of the hype and reviews I have to say it looks amazing. It's really my kind of game but I don't think my old ps3 (is it even out on ps3?), would do it justice.

It can't justify a purchase of a ps4 this close to Christmas to the Mrs unfortunately :-(

I’ve only played for about 90mins.

So far getting a little bit fed up of the training missions in the snow. I want the open world of the Wild West. Seems to be going on a bit to long in the snow. Hopefully will be in the dust soon enough.

Game looks fantastic

Played for 3 hours, very slow at the start but purposely to get you used to the game and controls.

in the first 45 minutes I shot and skinned a deer, my horse was run over by a train, I killed a prostitute, shot a posse of 16 men with a shotgun, hog tied a villain and tied him to the back of my horse, took 3 prostitutes to a town in a cart, derailed a train and shot a horse in the face.

Then I went to bed for a massive w4nk, not a bad evening really.

2% after about 90 mins. Had to buy a ps4. Then had to buy a new tv to connect it to ! ( old one was 18 years old and weighed more than I do) Loving it. Waited years for this. I don't get out much if you haven't worked that out. How many hours does 38% represent?

I've not played it much - maybe five or six hours in all. Beautifully crafted game-world and it looks amazing, but I could do without the finicky bounty system. I would turn it off if I had the option. Much preferred the system in RDR.

I got this today and am well disappointed, the controls are clunky and every time I had to shoot something like a charging bear or a stagecoach of bad guys, the buttons to draw my gun/rifle whatever just don't work. Then, found a woman trapped under a horse and when I pressed the dialogue button I unintentionally shot her in the face. It's like the game is trolling me or something.
Unfortunately, my wife chucked away the receipt or I'd be taking this crap Christmas present back.
Damn, back to Witcher 3.

PS4.
First part (in the snow) was ok but I was itching for the open world, now I've spent a few hours in it I'm massively underwhelmed, the control system literally makes it unplayable.
I spent about an hour getting to and tracking a bear and when I found it not a single button drew my gun/rifle/knife and I ended up dead.
Then it just dumped me down the road (no checkpoint) and the bear was gone and so were all the clues to track it so I had to ride back to camp with nothing.
I've recently been playing Witcher 3 and Breath of the Wild and I know a decent game when I play one, this is garbage. Looks nice but the controls are terrible.

Granted, immersion and detail seems to be the primary focus, it does seem odd that a studio as well-resourced as Rockstar would put out a game in 2018 where the actual gameplay could be at best described as serviceable. There was an opportunity to elevate this artform to match that of the very best cinema of literature, but the fundamental component of what makes it what it is fell short. God of War will (or at least, should) mop up the GOTY awards because it's an actual game.

God of War is a masterpiece, RDR2 is very poor in comparison. I don't understand it, I asked for it for Christmas because it was supposed to be the greatest game ever but after playing it for less than a day I have no desire whatsoever to continue.
Even climbing over a rock is a hit and miss mechanic, that item wheel is a mess and there's an input lag on every action.

I suggest yo take your console in for repair or if you dont have the upgraded console I suggest you buy it. Fantastic game. No lag what so ever.

Yes there is, there is also a problem with items and loot disappearing from storage and the fact that the input changes from hostile action to interact with no notification.
The "tracking" interface slows the game down too much and there are random events that kill you.
I can understand a new, inexperienced player (a noob) thinking it's fantastic but I've played much better games than this.

I feel your pain. The game-world is awesome, unfortunately the gameplay doesn't match up to it. Clunky controls, pointless micromanagement, ridiculous bounty system. All that development money spent on something that is fundamentally flawed. It's like they don't want you to enjoy it.

Some of the best games have older graphics. If you like strategy try Rome:Total War as the gameplay is second to none.

AoE2 is pretty good as well.

0AD is very good (open source) and there are plenty of factions.
