McNeil Progress
Seems to have gone quiet on this lad.
Does anyone know if we plan to send him out on loan. Or is his development to be monitored in house?
Really rate the kid. Think he will be a top player for Burnley in the future.

Re: McNeil Progress
He played well against Olympiacos, was OK but no more against Man U and was poor at Burton. He played extremely well this week in the U23s though. The club are looking at getting some players out on loan when the transfer window opens in January but I doubt McNeil will be among them, he's very much part of the first team squad now.Newcastleclaret93 wrote:Seems to have gone quiet on this lad.

Re: McNeil Progress
I think now the injury list is clearing up and it keeps that way we could see him loaned in January to a potential Championship club

Re: McNeil Progress
Can we not offer him out on a short term loan with a recall option if required. That would then be good for both us and the player.

Re: McNeil Progress
He stands out because his first thought is to attack and that sometimes loses the ball easier than the safer 5 yard sideways/backward pass most of our players like.
An exciting talent that would do well to go on loan to an attacking side like Accy Stanley or the like. Now Brady is back he will struggle to get on the bench here.

Those loans aren't possible any more. Players can only be recalled in transfer windows.Goobs wrote:Can we not offer him out on a short term loan with a recall option if required. That would then be good for both us and the player.

Re: McNeil Progress
Providing Brady is fine from now until when the window opens, I'm sure McNeil could fit in to a top 10 Championship side for the remainder of the season.

Re: McNeil Progress
ClaretTony is spot on. I was at the U23 game on Monday and McNeil impressed. In fact, he ran the show in the second half.
Brady played the full 90 minutes and compared with McNeil was on the fringes a lot of the time, staying wide. Perhaps the instruction was to take it easy a little but McNeil was bossing the midfield and getting stuck in. He will be a very good player and will provide healthy competition for Brady.

No short term loans now, disappeared about three years ago. Window to window loans only now, so half a season or a full season.Goobs wrote:Can we not offer him out on a short term loan with a recall option if required. That would then be good for both us and the player.

Re: McNeil Progress
When I have seen him I have thought "definitely got some class but one-paced and all left-foot".
Most seem to really rate him though so I hope I am wrong in thinking he hasn't quite got enough overall.

Personally would be getting in contact with Hearts and seeing if they want to extend Dunne's deal until the end of the season and whether they fancied taking McNeil for the rest of the season too. It seems a good club and Dunne seems to be thriving their with the love shown for him from the club and fans. Pretty competitive and riding on the crest of the wave at the moment

Agreed. The lad will be a top player. Not for Burnley though I’ll wager.Newcastleclaret93 wrote:Seems to have gone quiet on this lad.

Re: McNeil Progress
Think he’ll be a very good player but definitely think he’ll play Centre midfield or attacking midfield rather than as a winger. He’s not got the pace of a winger but he is reminiscent of Brady and JBG in that he is very good technically but probably a bit slower. He’s more of a class player - after all, if he had the pace as well he wouldn’t be developing here.

Yes I think the injury to Berra for them has been a blessing both for them and for us in the development of Dunne. They have hiatory over the last few years of bringing in youngnplayers and improving themClaretTony wrote:Dunne looks to be a lucky omen

Re: McNeil Progress
Does this include with injuries, for example Walters is now back with us but is he still technically under the loan agreement with Ipswich until January? Or do injuries mean loans can be terminated if both clubs agree to this?ClaretTony wrote:No short term loans now, disappeared about three years ago. Maybe with Lennon a doubt for tomorrow and Brady not quite up to full speed yet Dwight might get a chance in the starting 11 tomorrow or at least the 18?

Re: McNeil Progress
He's returned to us for rehab but he's still Ipswich's player for the duration of the loan. It's a year long, I think, but we could have put something in that permits a recall in January.claretburns wrote:Does this include with injuries, for example Walters is now back with us but is he still technically under the loan agreement with Ipswich until January? Re: McNeil Progress
Hopefully we’ve put a recall in Walts’ loan agreement. Could make a big difference for us in the second half of the season, convinced the big lad has still got it - great to have in and around the dressing room too.
We don’t want to be risking young players like McNeil. Where’s the future in that ?

I am not sure the question makes much sense.ClaretTony wrote:And how many times have you seen him play to make that judgement?
I have seen Lennon lots of times and mostly been disappointed. I have watched McNeil home and away and he is refreshing.
Based on my watching both players, I am able to offer my opinion, which I did. Some may agree and others not. Some may not care at all. However, the opinion is evidential and subjective, so worth what it is on a message board, no more.

To the best of my knowledge, McNeil has played ONE away game for us, which was at Burton, where he was bloody awful and at fault for one of the goals.IanMcL wrote:I am not sure the question makes much sense.

So unless you're talking about games you've seen at youth or U23 level, then you're talking poppycock.
He does have potential, but that's all it is at present. To suggest he should be playing instead of Lennon is naive at best.
Re: McNeil Progress
Hello Fidel. I was at Burton and the whole team was awful. He had a couple of flashes too. At home, same. He tries to beat folk and shoot of cross. That's a step up!fidelcastro wrote:To the best of my knowledge, McNeil has played ONE away game for us, which was at Burton, where he was bloody awful and at fault for one of the goals.

As others have said, he'd benefit from a loan spell elsewhere.

Maybe he is a fully fledged member of the squad now.

I was wondering why this lad had gone into the background after such a brilliant start for him in Europe and the first few matches of the season. Surely should be getting more game time now.

I would’ve thought with how things went with Walters, the last place we would be putting him would be anywhere near the dressing room on match day.SkiptonClaret wrote:Hopefully we’ve put a recall in Walts’ loan agreement. Playing young players is no more of a risk than playing older players. Anyone can get injured at any time, anyone can lose form and become ineffective. Struggling to see your point if I’m honest.

McNeil wasn't bloody awful at all and to blame him for the goal is nonsense.
He's an 18yr old kid for God sake.
