This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey.

Puddled.
Been utterly bonkers for years. This is the natural conclusion for a bonkers person to have got to after years of drug abuse.

I understand it only took 7 hours and 15 days for Sinead O'Connor to convert to Islam.

I imagine she is either no longer a feminist, or rejects the ideas that some Muslims have about women being second class citizens.

I wonder if anyone would've started a thread, had she said she was converting to Sikhism or Judaism?
Just a thought.

I’m not bothered what she converts to just why does she have to tell the world about it?
Religion is a personal issue she should keep it that way but she’d rather have the media it attracts.

yeah, we legalised gay marriage and went 24 hours with our alcohol laws because Islamic influences are growing at an alarming rate.

She’s converted to Islam and is happy about it. It’s her personal choice, and she’s rejoicing in it - just as many people do when they choose a particular fork in their life journey that they embrace with happiness. Why be down about it? It is, as people will say, her own personal thing; but how many of us have also announced via social media some sort of positive life change, like quitting smoking, or losing weight, or getting married, or committing to a different spirituality? It’s no big deal to me - but good for you or good for her.

I can imagine people creating division about quitting smoking or losing weight.
It's not like they have any place in western society either.
'I've decided to become a Muslim' Why?
'I've decided to quit smoking' Why?

Worked with her from around 1993 and did so until about 2003, know her ex husband very well but also know her current chap very well too and can confirm that as lovely as she can be, she is as mad as a box of frogs, if the stories are true that she has converted to yet another faith then I am sure she absolutely believes in its mandate but a troubled mind as hers seems to flit from one thing to another quite regularly.

Vintage mate, that was a horrendous attempt at humour bud. Only explanation is youre in your 80's so I'll overlook it (for now).
As a side note my SUBLIME gag isn't getting the respect it deserves. Overlooked. I really do think sometimes this place is populated by uncool 90 year old men where the best of the best flies over their heads.

Firstly it's YOU'RE not YOUR and it's HORRIBLE not... well... however you spell it
Secondly, you're the first person ever to call me a chav, so take a bow!
And you're hailed are you? By whom?
I doubt you're even a legend in your own household.

Millertime mate, thanks for your critique of my contribution to this thread.
A bit harsh I thought but then again humour is such a subjective concept don't you find?
As for your comments regarding your own attempt at humour, let's just say self praise is no recommendation

I wonder if, after a few years in the religion, she’ll come on telly and rip up a picture of the Grand Mufti, declaring him the incarnation of Satan upon the Earth, and earn herself a Fatwa?

Becoming more spiritual or religious; or less materialistic - if you want to put it that way - is a positive step for many people. Everyone is different, and entitled to follow personal fulfilment in whichever ways they see fit.

AndrewJB, spiritual? religious? materialistic? All cliches.
One feels air upon one's skin and breathes air, that is materialistic.
One cannot say that buying objects does not bring happiness or is any way more materialistic than the 'spiritual' or 'practicing religion.' The object is imbued with meaning. Buddhists and Hindus ain't got no soul, so they cannot appreciate such things. They don't believe in a soul.
A fundamental tenet of Islam is the expectation of the second coming of Christ. A bit of an oxymoron there.
She says that 'all scriptures lead to Islam,' not really. The discovery of perspective in 1435 might be said to be the second coming anyway, because it brought order from visual chaos and established a 'sense of perspective' with which to proceed from a position of rational enquiry.
Thus began the Enlightenment. Islam was left behind. It's still not a recognised part of their culture, nor Buddhism or Hinduism, although they are happy to reap the benefits of it via jet travel etc.
The spread of that culture is political in the sense that the Western governments are pandering to their mollycoddled status of brooking no argument to their faith, as a tool of political mob rule i.e. a totalitarian junta by proxy under the auspices of democracy. Our national cultural policy is that f**ked up.

Sinead O'Connor used to complain about the amount of sexism and abuse in the Catholic church, so she converted to Islam.
Well she's in for a shock I think.
