Under Which Manager's Time Did You Most Enjoy Supporting Us?
Though I saw my first game in 1962, the Jimmy Mullen era will forever stand out. Not the greatest footy, fair enough, but just the atmosphere, particularly at away games was, I thought, amazing.
And of course, there was the York experience.
I don't think that will ever be bettered.
So who's yours?

Just logged on to comment on this thread Electro....Mullen without a shadow of a doubt.
Re: Under Which Manager's Time Did You Most Enjoy Supporting Us?
Similar Electro, saw clarets for 1st time in 1966. Agreed the promotion season under Mullen was something special, great being a big fish in a small pool back then.
Coyle got us back to the big time but Sean Dyche wins it for me.
Just think back to the games against York, Doncaster etc and who we are playing on Sunday.

Adamson and his team of the 70s.
Beautiful team to watch. Casper, Dobson, James, Collins, Fletcher. Need I say more.

Been watching since Harry Potts and it's Sean Dyche for me in our Championship winning season. Only just edging the Team of the 70's because I saw little of that season because I was in the Army in Germany.

Mullen for the atmosphere...who'll ever forget at least 20 minutes of constant Jimmy Mullen's Claret and Blue Army, amazing.
Coyle for football excitement.

Mullen and then Coyles.
Mullen because it was my first time the club and town came together in a frenzy. It just took off.
Coyles attacking style, you wanted to be at every game. Always believing you would win. The cup journeys he took us on and getting to the premier league was just sensational. He even took us there the exciting way through the play offs..

Sean Dyche for the sustained success but it has to be Owen Coyle for the promotion season and cup run we had. Loads of memorable games that year!

1/ Mullen 91/92 the away days were fantastic but even more so it was the rebirth of the Longside in full voice week in week out.
2/ Coyle the football was fantastic and exciting the cup runs the play offs turning United over it was an amazing 15 months or so.
3/ For sustained success then Sean Dyche in my lifetime. I have to admit though I do find a lot of the games boring and frustrating these days.

Re: Under Which Manager's Time Did You Most Enjoy Supporting Us?
For context, I saw my first game in 1987.
Two promotions under Mullen, better gates, better atmosphere, my first experience of us winning anything plus The Longside all made it pretty special.
Promotion and the cup runs in 08/09 were unbelievable.
Two promotions, fourth season and counting in the top flight including our highest placing in my lifetime under Dyche.
The football on the whole may not have been as exciting but Dyche wins my vote overall.

Jimmy Adamson for me 74/75 great football.
Can't understand people going on about Mullen, who overstayed his welcome by at least 2 years due to the ineptitude of our then board and chairman

Sean Dyche, not a difficult one at all for a 46 year old. Under Mullen we had a fantastic season but it was a bit of a struggle after that.
Re: Under Which Manager's Time Did You Most Enjoy Supporting Us?
Has to be Coyle for me, simply for the football we played. Not sure that promotion season will ever be topped.

Another vote for Adamson. The promotion season and the first two years in the top flight.
He had the advantage that money mattered less
Dyche has achieved more but, for no fault of his own, can’t sustain competition to the big 6

Re: Under Which Manager's Time Did You Most Enjoy Supporting Us?
Dyche. The unexpected Promotion in ‘13/‘14 was amazing. We just seemed to build a head of steam. Also, having a 40+ goal strike partnership was a wonder to behold. I still maintain that we would have stayed up if Sam Vokes had remained fit; that partnership was good enough to get the goals we needed in the Premier League.
The Championship Season was even better. We took a while to get going, but the addition of Joey Barton’s steel and nous in the middle of the park was Kryptonite for our Promotion Rivals. Going into that game against QPR, after Brighton and Middlesbrough had both faltered was nerve-shredding, but ultimately fantastical. It put to bed all that chatter on BHAFC and MFC Messageboards about a ‘closed shop’ game at the Riverside on the final day.
2015/‘16 is my favourite season so far as a Burnley Fan.

Beamish is right, give it another 10-15 years and nostalgia will have set in and there'll be the same rosy glow around Dyche's era.
13/14 was as good as it'll get being a Claret. Starting off as outsiders, convincing ourselves we could do it beating QPR, beating the B***tards, that goal against Wigan, the day out in Blackpool.

I can't see anybody aged 64+ saying anything other than Harry Potts (part1).
You could go on any game, home or away, against any of the top teams and know we were very capable of outplaying and beating them.

Owen Coyle for me. So exciting week in week out.
Have admired Dyches result from afar, but not watched so cant really vote for him.
Also surprised no Stan mentions.... a promotion, Steve Davis returning, Ian Wright, Gazza, 2 seasons at the top end of the championship, Robbie Blake signing, fa cup quarter final, crazy press conferences, punch ups with rival managers and his own players and tears. As close to a Burnley FC sitcom / soap opera as you’ll ever get.

Re: Under Which Manager's Time Did You Most Enjoy Supporting Us?
Whilst I wholeheartedly agree with this, I have to admit that I enjoy supporting the Clarets just as much now as I did in those days. History is great, however, I never dwell on it because it is today that is important and it is a good feeling supporting my team playing in the Premier League for the 5th season, something which I never thought we would achieve. Enjoy these days because you never know what is round the corner and all this will just be history.LeadBelly wrote:I can't see anybody aged 64+ saying anything other than Harry Potts (part1).

Re: Under Which Manager's Time Did You Most Enjoy Supporting Us?
Can’t deny it was a special season under Horseface. But that was more to do with the cup run and play offs than our championship form which was not great.
Had some great times under Stan and Jimmy Mullen for sure but also had some really dire times under both - people complain about the style of football under SD but under Stan and Jimmy we really struggled in the championship for long sustained periods.
Overall has got to be SD for me...5 years plus of the most successful period by a mile in 50 years - winning and promotion from a very tough championship playing very good football with some brilliant players and then earning respect in the Premier League and putting the club on a financial footing which will help for many years to come.

Re: Under Which Manager's Time Did You Most Enjoy Supporting Us?
Was just old enough to catch the tail end of the team of the 70s so that left quite an impression but that aside it has to be Dyche.
Honourable mentions for Mullen, Ternent and Coyle but what I enjoy is Burnley being in the PL and playing the best teams in the country on a regular basis. Dyche is the first manager for 40 years to get us to and keep us in the top flight. As has been rightly said nostalgia will look kindly on him in years to come.

Re: Under Which Manager's Time Did You Most Enjoy Supporting Us?
John Bond first half of that season was the most exciting set of games I saw, mostly at home but occasionally away too.
Re: Under Which Manager's Time Did You Most Enjoy Supporting Us?
We lost 12 and drew 13 that season. That was also a pretty weak year in terms of the quality of teams in that league.Devils_Advocate wrote:Wow coming 5th in Championship to achieve our highest league position in over 30 years is considered "not great"
The record was not that different to the season before under Cotterill. I think it was also probably a worse record than under Stan when we first went up to the championship and finished 7th.
Of course they were memorable games but that season was only “great” for me because of the play offs and the cup run.
We were miles better in the 2 promotion seasons under SD - you would have to be on that horse that Stan used to talk about to not realise that.

Never suggested we were anywhere near as good under Coyle as under Dyche. What I questioned is your claim that achieving our highest league position in over 30 years and coming 5th in the Championship is not great as that statement is just utter nonsense whatever way you try and spin it.

What are you on about. You said our Championship form was not great, Well our Championship form resulted in us ending up 5th in the league so how can our league form be considered not great but our league position be good.TVC15 wrote:Rather than be a t-wat just for the sake of it all the time on this board why don’t you for a change read what other people actually post ?

You've compared it to the season befor under Cotteril when Cotts got sacked in Nov and we only got 62 pts. Youve said the division was poor well 76pts in Dyche first promotion season would have got us 5th as well so was that league poor.
I an not being a t-wat I am just calling out that dismissing our league form under Coyle as poor in 08/09 is rubbish. Why dont for once you just admit you were wrong instead of going on and on and on trying to argue till you are blue in the face.
I disagree with some of the other stuff in your original post but thats just differing opinions but poor in the league in 08/09 I cant believe any other Burnley fan would think this (unless they still are acting like a jilted teenager over him going to Bolton)
