Dyche and the kitty

Post by Barry_Chuckle » Sat Nov 03, 2018 7:04 pm

Honest question.... who'd trust Dyche to wisely invest a BIG kitty in January?

I think SD has got the best out of the team he inherited, yes he's made a few decent signings, Pope and Keane for example, but I feel those are outweighed with the not so decent ones or ones which his tactics don't suit like Wood and Vydra, both highly rated by fans I know of Leeds and Derby.

I think he'll struggle to sign players who would improve our current first 11.

Want Dyche to stay obviously but if he ever needs a great transfer window as Burnley manager it's this January

There must be some old lads left at Stoke, surely ? It’s what we need now - experienced, no nonsense professionals. Good lads.

I was expecting to see a photo of Sean Dyche holding a cat.

We need a good January transfer window, if we're to stay up. I think it's that straightforward. But it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't sign anybody - in which case, we'll go down.

There will be zero signings in January, as we will be keeping every £ we have to navigate the drop. Why people think we will spend in January at our least positive time compared to all the positive times we have had and done barely anything. Business > football.

Our league position and form is going to play a big part in who we are able to attract in January.

As things stand, we’re a far less attractive proposition than we were 3 months ago.

Btw, why do you support Burnley when you never seem to post anything positive?

Did last season not give you immense satisfaction and enjoyment, for example?

The chance to play in a European competition for the first time in fifty years?

Transfer policy is genuinely rudderless.

If you can’t win the technical battle, win the physical battle. Our players on the whole manage to be slow, unimposing and completely lacking in good technical ability at the same time. Dyche primarily to blame for this - technical director should be the sort of person to tell him to “f*ck off” when he comes asking for the likes of Craig Dawson and Jay Rod every window.

SD's signings Jones, Heaton and Arfield, Lowton, Keane,Tarks, Ward, Defour Cork Pope JBG, Westwood, Brady, Barnes,Hart, nothing wrong with them. Jury still out with Gibson Vydra.
Bardsley Taylor, Reid, Juke, Jones (Forward) Sordell, Walters, Wells pretty poor IMO. Can't comment on the other keepers
Suspect this is about average for a manager's signings

To a certain extent the funds made available in January will be largely irrelevant. £15M on someone currently impressing at a Championship club somewhere between the play-offs and mid-table won't cut it.

The summer window is already casting its shadow over the next one. Poor and insufficient recruitment is the primary reason (although there are others) why we've made such a poor start. To change things we need better players than we currently have. That means PL standard or equivalent players.

We are going to find it incredibly hard to recruit them given our current circumstances. Our best bet, as a short-term fix, would be to look at loans from the top six. Players on the fringes of first team football there.

We're not going to be able to sign, on a permanent basis, experienced PL players who are a significant improvement on our current squad to make enough of a difference and there's no time to give promising Championship players the necessary adjustment period.

Whoever we sign we're going to need to see a pretty much immediate impact.

Successful loan players at Burnley have been few and far between.

Particularly under Dyche.

Not funny.

But talking old lads maybe Cahill could help us out this season. Defence is poor now. Ok no cover and rgsts anothé story. Otherwise he must play Long and Gibson.

It doesnt help when we dont use the loan market properly. This would allow us to have a couple of young players sith something to prove. When you look at Mount and Wilson at Derby playing so well. Foden not getting games. Reiss Nelson, Lookman, Brewster all available for loan in pre season. All young hungry lads with a point to prove, pace and an eye for goal the lot of them, things we are lacking. How many shots do we have from outside the box? Nobody is willing to take the chance, too many in the safe zone

But under Dyche I think whereas loans are concerned we are untouchable with clubs knowing their is no benefit to them as they wont get game time.

And dont mention Keane that was 3 years ago

Absolutely.

We royally fudged up the opportunity last summer to attract a standard of player that would’ve immeasurably improved us on the field.

A mere 6 months down the line, and with the very real possibility of relegation and Championship football, we’re looking at no better than what we already have, to be brutally honest.

I don’t particular care who was at fault, Dyche, the Board, whoever. But our complete incompetence and unwillingness to seize our opportunity in the last window was criminal and unforgivable.

We absolutely showed the football world that Burnley is not a progressive club. We waved the white flag in the Europa qualifying stages, and the club reeks of a ‘1987’ mentality that will never be gotten rid of.

Garlick is getting away with it again. Oh how Mike Ashley must wish that Newcastle fans were as gullible as Clarets fans.

"Successful loan players at Burnley have been few and far between.

Agreed - but we've painted ourselves into a bit of a corner.

We won't be able to make a permanent signing from a PL club that will improve our current starting eleven.

We tried in the summer (when were in a much better position than we will be in January) to sign Championship players with PL experience and we failed.

We have no track record, Defour aside when we had the summer to sort it out, when it comes to signing anyone playing outside of the UK

Given our circumstances loans, regardless of our previous shortcomings, seem about the only realistic option of making an improvement.

The alternative is to do nothing - which might well happen.

I have been a vocal critic on here of Garlick but I do think this window he was willing to spend on players from abroad that Butterworth had identified. It was SD who wouldnt sanction them. Much like the Vossen and Long debacle

No point us signing players like that because they wouldn't be given any freedom to play and just expected to run themselves into the ground.

Not really any good examples there as all have been involved in relegation scraps in their time in the Prem. Yes Leicester are the miracle but the following season they struggled massively much like we are.

I will guarantee West Ham will not be up for a game as much as they were today all season. Remember what we did to them last season. They wanted payback in a big way and you could see it in how much they were in our faces

Given our recruitment process we won't spend a penny in the window unless we shop in the "injured, over priced ex-premiership academy player who will be fit to at the end of October next season".

It’s all very subjective though, isn’t it?

Watford and Bournemouth have both been in the PL longer than we have. And I bet their recent cup records are a damn sight better than ours. Bournemouth into the QF of this years Carabao Cup.

Bournemouth finished ninth one year, and all from a 17 point deduction in League 2 and the threat of administration in 2008/9. It’s a hell of a ride up the leagues.

Yeah, we finished 7th, which was bloody amazing. But what have we to show for it now? An embarrassing Europa League qualifying campaign that saw us ridiculed, and no increased investment in the playing squad to consolidate.

If we’re not going to take advantage of that 7th place finish, in any capacity, then there’s no difference in finishing 7th or 17th.

Sarri's comments on Danny Drinkwater surely timed with the January window in mind.

Difficult to comment on his current capabilities as he's so rarely seen but at the time of his ill-advised move to Chelsea would definitely have given us the kind of midfield presence we seem to be lacking at present.

Moses mentioned in the same piece, Cahill, as referenced above also a fringe player.

Trouble is our idea of spending BIG is everyone else's spend NORMAL.

Also what the the obsession with spending big, spend RIGHT! Fulham spent BIG and are looking more of a shambles than we are.

DD is a great shout. He’d have to be willing to take a huge pay cut though you’d assume. Just what we need.

No matter how perilous our plight may be come January, I will be very surprised if we dip into the market. It's never the time to buy. We have a squad (if fit) to sustain our sole objective to remain in the PL. The possible obstacle could be the FA cup but given Dyche's track record in cup competitions I don't feel it will be a hurdle.

I don't think we need to worry about the FA cup! If we're in a relegation battle Dyche will have even less interest in it than usual.

We've been awful in cup competitions but if we are still struggling at that point I think Dyche will be more interested to try and get some sort of momentum.
