Anime Films

Anyone like these, particularly Japanese ones?

I've just got interested in them as a few months ago Film Four had a series on the Ghibli studios:

I like the more realistic ones but there are also fantasies.

Some were very impressive. One that's moved me greatly was 'This Corner of the World':

What's remarkable is that, even though the images of people are obviously not accurate, they still give facial expressions that are understood. In addition, some of the other details - landscapes, insects, warships etc. - are remarkably accurate. For instance in 'This Corner...' there were the Japanese Battleship Yamato, cruisers Tone and Aoba, , B29s, and an eerie dropping of the Hiroshima bomb.

Seen a few of them Hipper, my daughter loves them, especially Ponyo and Spirited Away. Maybe not one for kids, but Grave of the Fireflies is superb if a touch grim.

One of my Christmas Day traditions is to watch my DVD of 'Howl's Moving Castle'.

Those two are on my list.

I've just seen 'Howl's Moving Castle'.

Also seen 'From Up Poppy Hill' and 'When Marnie Was There'.

The Ghost in the Shell anime are great including the series they did. I'm also fond of a movie called Sky Blue although I think it's Korean rather than Japanese.
