I hope not, could do without the saints getting a decent manager if we're to avoid the drop.

Re: Mark Hughes
Another manager about to get 3 years pay for 3 months work.
Re: Mark Hughes
Add the Fulham manager to that list after last night
BFS will be licking his lips as either of them prepare to offer him a fortune to keep them up
And he most likely would

Re: Mark Hughes
I heard two weeks ago that Southampton were sounding out new managers.
Hughes doesn't really fit the profile of the last few managers they have employed

Thought it was one of the strangest appointments of recent times when it was announced he was going to Saints. Still haven't worked out what they were thinking.Nonayforever wrote:I heard two weeks ago that Southampton were sounding out new managers.

Do you fink so?
Re: Mark Hughes
Looked a strange appointment at the time given his failings at Stoke. No doubt it will be someone else's fault.

Re: Mark Hughes
What do you mean? Some folk on here think changing manager mid season would guarantee relegation. Let Saints crack on and see if they’re proved correct, if not we could be in deep doo doo!No Ney Never wrote:I hope not, could indo without the saints getting a decent manager if we're to avoid the drop.

Been unlucky with injuries and lack of investment in the summer, sounds familiar

Very popular amongst the staff because he can speak English, apparently they’ve had a lot of problems with some of their previous foreign managers

And what happens if we still get relegated with a new manager?Barry_Chuckle wrote:What do you mean? Some folk on here think changing manager mid season would guarantee relegation. Let Saints crack on and see if they’re proved correct, if not we could be in deep doo doo!
How long should we give the new manager if he ends up worse than SD?

It is always the refs fault with Hughes. The man is odious.jrgbfc wrote:Looked a strange appointment at the time given his failings at Stoke. No doubt it will be someone else's fault.

He's definitely one of the favourites for the Cardiff job if they sack Warnock. Can just see it.

Can't understand why managers get such long contracts when 95% of them will never see the contract out.

Re: Mark Hughes
Job security works both ways. If you sign a manager then you're going to want them to commit to the job. Rather than just let them leave with short notice whenever they want because someone else offered them a better contract.Blackrod wrote:Can't understand why managers get such long contracts when 95% of them will never see the contract out.

Regarding contract length, when Pardew got that EIGHT year one at Newcastle, he must
have thought all his birthdays and Christmases had come at once.
And cartwheeled all the way home.

Re: Mark Hughes
Is there any job that is so handsomely rewarded for failure as football management (apart from the occasional utility boss)? I can't understand it, genuinely. The same old names always connected with any job that comes up because they happen to be unemployed after getting sacked from their last job because they couldn't do it. Apart from spending some time getting a coaching certificate (something never needed or wanted by genuinely great managers of the past) what qualifies you for being a football manager other than just having the brass neck to apply and talk a good game in the interview? So Sparky gets sacked, what then? Pardew? Another failure? The what happens after he gets sacked? Another big contract at another club for him to fail at?
It is the obsession with 'big names' that is the cause of it, if only a club had the courage to say to some of these guys when they rock up to apply 'sorry, why would we employ you, you got sacked from you last 4 jobs for being completely and utterly out of your depth'.
I despair - ha ha.

Re: Mark Hughes
I would guess there is a limited number of suitable candidates, especially when the costs of failure are so high.
Mark Hughes hasn't had a bad career as a manager. He did pretty well at Stoke for his first three seasons but then things started to go wrong.

Re: Mark Hughes
There was a lot more to that than meets the eye. Rumour had it that a certain someone owed quite a sum of money to the owner and this would clear the debt in the first place. How long did he stay? Four years if memory serves me correctly.ElectroClaret wrote:Regarding contract length, when Pardew got that EIGHT year one at Newcastle, he must

Not sacked, mis heard news report. Vice chairman gone, no doubt Hughes will follow after next defeat.
