If the "big six " really did join a European league could we win the Prem ?

It would be tough but if we take last season as a yard stick for what we can achieve then who knows ? Obviously we have to stay up but it would certainly be a more even playing field and less money swilling around means we might get a wage cap.

The top flight would be more competitive than it has been for the last 30-40 years.

It wouldn't last forever though because 6 other clubs would fill that void.

We'd have to be in the right place, right time etc.

Huddersfield drew at Chelsea last season ;) . Over a full season is the marker for winning a league.

The simple answer, based on finishing 7th last year is yes.

The Premier League, or what would be left of it would be an interesting prospect. The TV money would plummet, probably to the same level as the Championship. Wage bills would have to be slashed which would presumably result in high earning foreign players leaving in droves. Maybe some rich investors will continue to prop clubs up but a less-prestigious Premier League could make them think twice, ditto those bankrolling championship clubs aiming for the PL cash cow.

Where would that leave us? Initially, with some cash in the bank, maybe we'd be in a strong position but I suspect that wouldn't last as we go back to relying on gate receipts and self-generated income.

This would happen in all the countries where the big teams went into a Europa League. Wages may plummet but the players will still want to play somewhere. What else would they do?

fifa said all players involved in any breakwaway league would be banned from international football including world cup, added to that what teams supporters would seriously enjoy severing ties with the current league ?

But , in answer yes, one day we would.

If that was the case we'd find out once and for all whether playets really care about playing for their country.

A lot of fans might not like it but I'm sure all they'd all find enough to fill their stadiums every game.

Regarding last season and 'did we win it,' one would have to view the table minus the 14 PL clubs' matches with the 'top six.' If there were a break-away league then there would be a re-structuring of the PL to feature 20 teams again, which would mean a 9 team promotion from the Championship. Actually that would be a good league to be in and satisfactory to most clubs. I hope the top six to leave and bankrupt themselves in the process.

TV money would crash so we would need to make sure the plug was pulled after the largesse of PL contracts was stopped. We do not want a reprise of the ITV Digital debacle

Call it what they like but if it is a league somebody is going to win and somebody will be bottom. They won’t be happy.
If FIFA were to excommunicate these players some of the creme de la creme would refuse to go.
The national leagues would be superb, back on a level playing field.
Personally I would like to see a team wage cap for both first team and development squads. That would spread the talent about and give every fan a chance of seeing their club win national trophies.

Fifa will do nothing, just like when the Premier League was formed for £££ purposes. Teams and players hold the power, Fifa just get rich of the back of it.

What will happen is the fixtures will lose their shine, the Champions League succeeds because it throws up interesting and rare fixtures, sure the same team rise to the top but the fixture permutations change and vary year on year. A bit like an international FA cup.
Fans though will get bored the more time they see the same pairings, for example 'El Clasico' lost it's prestige when it's played five times in one season. Twice in the league, twice in the domestic cup and once in international friendly (6 should they face eachother in the UCL).

Yes we could. But nobody would care. The TV deal would be defunct, and we would have to release all of our current players from their present contracts and try to resign them to much lower ones, or sign totally new players. It would be total chaos.

Thinking back to Kerry Packer's "World Series Cricket" which started up in 1977. Not too long before everyone was forgiven and bans lifted.

Personally think it's inevitable a Super League will evolve, maybe within the next 10 years. The big broadcasting subscription channels will be lobbying for it. Lets face it the PL is becoming stale and more and more predictable, and everything is geared in favour of the top clubs. The sooner, the better for me. Could we win what is in effect a Championship league. We've done it before so I don't see why not as long as we've retained some 'dry powder'.

I would love the top 6 to bugger off, they've ruined football long enough. The premiership could become a better version of the Championship, the best league in the world, by a long way.
Could we win it, yes, but we'd never become an established seasonal challenger.
My preference would be for the clubs left behind to drop into the league, rather than invite the top 6 to join a new Premiership. Sadly there are greedy owners out there who wouldn't like that.

A European Super League would consist of probably 20 teams. Could it really accommodate six English teams or would a couple get "left behind"?

If the big six joined a break away league, it would at least be interesting times for football. The way I see it, sky would drastically reduce the money into whatever they renamed the top division, as they'd plough money into getting the rights to this new entity. The knock on of that might see a few clubs struggle with things like wage bills, especially if the top division went back under the control of the FA and they started getting real about FFP.

A few people on here have mentioned re-introducing a wage cap. Spoke with both my dad and grandad about this last weekend and both would welcome it with open arms. I would like to see something brought in which levels the playing field and makes football more interesting, makes it an actual competition, and if a wage cap does it, I'm all for it.

Of a wage cap was simply that, a cap on a basic wage, the richer clubs could get around it with paying bigger signing on fees and bonuses so the playing field wouldn't be that level.

The tv situation would be interesting. BT and Sky would be all over it but out of the EU they wouldn’t have to slice the pie so there is the possibility of one of them getting it all.
The other would then want some football and would have to negotiate with the new PL. You would want your top man sat at that meeting.

The Premier League started with a discussion between television and 'the big five', Everton, Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool and Spurs. Since then of course Chelsea and Man City have bought their way into today's top six whilst Everton have not. Chelsea and Man City were never 'big clubs' like Man Utd, so there is hope that with the right investment and marketing any club could do what Chelsea and Man City did. You just have to sell your soul to the devil so to speak.

It's about a television fan demand.

We might have a chance in the first year or two but after that the drastic decrease in TV money would cause us far greater problems than clubs like Everton or West Ham with much larger crowds.

Apart from more competition I think there would be an additional spin off. The Superleague clubs would still need their players to be match fit etc and I could see a plan whereby these clubs could have connections within the PL that would allow for short term loans. Maybe even having PL clubs as feeders with good access to high quality loans. We, for instance, could be paired with (optimistically) City and have access to some of their fringe players short term and in return they would get a 'first refusal' clause for any of our saleable players. Obviously it would be more complex than the way I've written it down but you see the idea.

The PL would be seen as the championship is seen now. Th championship would be like league 1 etc etc. No one outside of the clubs would be interested. MOTD would be showing highlights of the Euro league only.
The only way to garner outside interest in PL would be if the champions got promoted to the new Euro league . That could only happen if the bottom placed English club in the Euro league fell out to the PL.

Can you imagine the costs involved for the away games.

No, we had our season in the sun, it won't be happening again.

Once the Premier League money follows the Big 6, the rest of us will be back to a bit of normality and we will still be bottom of the dosh league.

Id think wages would decrease. There will only be so many elite clubs being able to pay massive wages due to the tv money disappearing. Ive nothing against the best olayers earning £100, 200, 300 thousand a week. It makes sense when mediocre players get £50,000.
