A good game. He should keep his place for the time being.

Re: Kevin Long is certainly good enough for the PL
He played well. Much better thank Traks last week. All the defence did.
It also helps that midfield competed second half too - Hendrick has to start in the middle. Hes far more comfortable than Cork in congested areas

Tarkowski needs resting. Long is currently miles better. Tarky needs to look at himself and rid himself of the Billy big boots attitude if he is to be considered for England duty any time soon.

Re: Kevin Long is certainly good enough for the PL
I hardly ever notice Long when he plays, and for a centre back that’s probably a good thing.

Best performance for a while if we keep that up the results will come and we will be safe....

Can’t ever remember Long really letting us down . Makes you wonder why our Manager persisted with somebody carrying an injury for a good few weeks. Still, In Dyche We Trust!!

Lacks quality on the ball, but does the basics very very well. And excellent performance again from Big Kev!

Have you been watching Tarks quality on the ball recently? It's been very poor and in that context this oft repeated criticism of Long seems harsh and just like re hashing old news.

Solid game. Probably could do it in the upper championship or possibly even the Prem on a consistent basis. Deserves to have a proper starting career, but he’ll still struggle to find it here I feel.

Re: Kevin Long is certainly good enough for the PL
He was getting dog’s abuse on here when he screwed up against Bournemouth in the dead rubber game against them at the end of last season. Yes, there’s a mistake in him from time to time, but that’s the case with both Mee and Tarkowski.

He always has been in the mind of the Club.
Possibly the most consistent of the centre backs, Gibson exempt as he is as yet, untested.

Pleased for Kevin Long. It can't be easy when you're rarely starting a game, the more game time he gets the better he'll become. What's the posistion on Tarky, has he been carrying a knock of late, if he has I can't believe Dyche would play him with Long being available.

We know they are great defenders, but why try and play fancy football with a forward all over you, and you are the last man.

I know it's easy to say it but .... if Dyche thinks to keep giving Long a new contract then that's good enough for me. If Dyche thought he wasn't good enough Long would be off. Great game by Kev today!

Re: Kevin Long is certainly good enough for the PL
Always have said it that a defenders job is 1st to defend. In this modern Era of football a cb is almost expected to play like cruyff aswell as defend. Long gets stick for poor distribution all the time aswell as mee but there defenders not mid/att. Just goes to show how much more being an actual no nonsense defender who does the basics and leaves things to those who are meant to create, appreciated when we finally keep a clean sheet after the last few results. For me Long has to now get the backing of the manager and the jersey is his to lose or else what's the point of waiting for your chance and do well keep a clean sheet and then to be dropped again like all other times. And yes Long is PL quality. Just like as I said earlier all players these days are compared to the best there is/was cruyff Maradona Pele, ronaldo Messi etc. If your not up there than your ****. That's the harsh reality of things.Colburn_Claret wrote:Which has been the problem with Tarks and Mee all season. Over complicating things.

Re: Kevin Long is certainly good enough for the PL
Long generally does OK. No nonsense defending, not a great passer but clears his lines well enough.
Re: Kevin Long is certainly good enough for the PL
Sometimes he makes a bad mistake which is costly apart from that he is superb and ticks all the centre half boxes.

Totally agree with your point. But isn't that the reason why he's with us. Man city etc buy up all the players that don't make mistakes. Fact of life unfortunately.

We looked better in defense today,
Was it because Tarkowski didn’t play?
Long had a good game and should keep his place.

I think the way we play is much more suited to 2 no nonsense centre backs like Mee and Long.

Long was terrific today. Much better effort today from the whole side, would have liked to see Barnes on a little earlier, and for Lennon to have a go at the full back for a change

Re: Kevin Long is certainly good enough for the PL
Back to basics defending. We need a run of games now where we just focus on the fundamentals. Our ball retention/passing accuracy has been poor despite apparent attempts to play more football in our own half so don't think the 'no nonsense' approach that tends to be the trademark of a Long/Mee partnership will have a negative impact as far as our attacking outlets are concerned.
If 4s and 5s become 0s and 1s then we're back to being competitive and closer to the strategy that was so effective for most of last season.

'Dycheball' (as Dyche's critics would describe it) works. It ****ing-well works. Glad we're playing to our strengths again, and good on Long for taking his chance and stealing the shirt.
