1000% better

Post by Steddyman » Sat Nov 10, 2018 5:19 pm

I only saw the second half, but that was an excellent performance compared to previous games.

We threw so many more bodies forward when in attack and looked dangerous all the time.

A clean sheet too. I feel Tarks has been carrying an injury affecting his performances from the very start of the season.

An excellent performance today, with the defence back to a strong showing! UTC

Looked a bit like Burnley in the 2nd half. Hopeless up front though

Agreed, a more 'Burnley like' performance in the second half.
I'm always less nervous when Kev Long starts in place of Tarky, *seriously. Him, Ben Mee and Charlie Taylor were
excellent under pressure.

Hope that is a line in the sand now.

Edit *
I hope it's because Tarky's been carrying an injury and not because he is complacent.

Let’s not get carried away: that first half was as drab as it’s been all season from a footballing perspective, BUT the defence was by and large much much more solid. Lowton’s handling of Gray was excellent.

Second half was a big improvement in terms of limiting Leicester, which is what we’re best at. Worth remembering though that Leicester were without their key creator in Maddison. There’s a long way to go for this team.

Newcastle cannot be anything other than a win.

One shot on target
63% pass accuracy
37% possession.

The defence played well but the passing was abysmal at times. Leicester were there for the taking after riding the early storm.

You would take a point all day long away from home but don't get too carried away with the performance.

Awful first half, particularly the first 30 mins when Leicester should have been out of sight. Second half better but still a lot more will be required to stay up. Hopefully something to build on.

Really don't get this Tarks is complacent or too big for his boots stuff. He is still second in the player of the season ratings. Other than Chelsea and West Ham he has been very good all season despite playing with a hernia for a while now and probably needing an operation. He should be commended for his commitment to keep playing while injured. Mee has been awful until the last two games but has thankfully started to play well again. Will be good when we get both back fit and playing well together.

Interesting, I hadn't seen the stats, but that isn't much better than other games.

Difference today is we got forward with purpose and guile, and defended well at the back.

First half we were awful again but Leicester harried us as expected and we gave away possession far too easily. I have got to admit I wasn’t optimistic at half time, however it was a much better second half performance and with fifteen minutes to go I was pretty confident we would get something out of the game.
A couple of positives this week, Big Kev had a good game in my opinion, and overall the defence played ok and absorbed pressure first half. Brady showed glimpses of what he can do when he came on. Also if Wood had managed to keep that half volley down we could have nicked it. A well earned point today. Onwards and upwards.

We were that poor in the first half but we should have gone in 1 up.
If Chris Wood had been on his toes when Sam Vokes gave him an “over” we’d have led.
As it was Wood waited for the ball instead of attacking it and allowed the defender the chance to make a superb block.
I’d love to know if Wood had called the “over” or if Sam just took a blind chance?
