3 days in Burnley? Technical Director
Matt Hughes, Football Notebook in today's The Times:
Three days in Burnley?
Burnley’s attempts to appoint a technical director to support manager Sean Dyche are being hampered by the reluctance of several candidates to spend much time in the town.
The club want the new appointment to spend three days a week working between Turf Moor and their Gawthorpe Hall training ground but several candidates have indicated that they would prefer just two days a week in Burnley, plus match days.

Well, they won't get the fecking job then, will they ?
Arrogant pr!cks trying to dictate the terms of employment. If the terms
don't suit you, don't fecking apply.
Assuming what they say is true, mind.

Then perhaps they shouldn't have applied for the job.

Re: 3 days in Burnley? Technical Director
What sort of person are the club looking for as Technical Director?
"We'd like you to spend 3 days at work each week."
If you were applying for technical director role at a football club, do you think it would look good on your application to say "I think I can do the job with only 2 days at work."
OK, there's an argument that says that the technical director must be keeping "up to speed" with football and footballers at other clubs. But, "no, I only want to work with the rest of the club staff 2 days a week...."
That doesn't make sense - wherever the club is based.

Re: 3 days in Burnley? Technical Director
Depends on the agreed role, whether there is a need for any time at Burnley at all. Who knows what the job description entails?
All a bit naff.

Re: 3 days in Burnley? Technical Director
They obviously don't want the job then.
If the job entails 3 days at the Turf & Gawthorpe then that is what the job is.
Only engage someone who actually wants the job, not the money.

Personally I think this story is bullish-it....it does not make any sense.
Furthermore its lazy stereotypical journalism about Burnley as a town.
Somebody from The Times is either being fed lies about the club or they have some kind of vendetta against the club as this is the second article in a few weeks with absolutely no evidence or substance.

It’s beautiful around Gawthorpe. Not just the new training facility but the scenary and the views. I can think of far worse places to spend 3 days a week which makes me think the article is unadulterated bull ****.

I would guess given the transitory nature of modern football (even Technical Director) the issue is more about where they live and a reluctance to permanently move

Re: 3 days in Burnley? Technical Director
They wouldn't have to re-locate though. 2 nights in an hotel on the sort of money we'll be paying them...not much of a hardship, is it?Chester Perry wrote:I would guess given the transitory nature of modern football (even Technical Director) the issue is more about where they live and a reluctance to permanently move
Re: 3 days in Burnley? Technical Director
You mean like SD, the players and all the employees of the club have to.....yep what a hardship it must be getting paid to work in football.Devils_Advocate wrote:Cant blame them, no way Id take a job that had me in Burnley 3 or 4 days a week
I am pretty sure that the terms and conditions do not stipulate they have to live in Stoops....they can do what everyone else does and live in the Ribble Valley or south manchester or north yorkshire. We are surrounded by many beautiful areas which is why I think the article is simply trying to stir up more trouble (just like last the last article)

Does make me wonder why people are applying for the role at Burnley Football Club if they're not willing to spend time in Burnley
I'm more interested in the sort of person we're going after. With regards to recruitment, it absolutely cannot just be a yes-man to Sean Dyche. That will get us nowhere.

Maybe try and add something to the thread other than your pathetic ignorant opinion that you would not take a job if it meant being in Burnley for 3 days a week.

Re: 3 days in Burnley? Technical Director
I never had a problem staying in Burnley. As a matter of fact, I quite loved it. "Feckless prlcks". That says it all.
Re: 3 days in Burnley? Technical Director
Nothing wrong with this area. If you really didn't want to stay in Burnley you've got places like Manchester and Ilkley that are only 45 minutes away. Bit of a non story and lazy journalism if you ask me.

When Sean Dyche was interviewed for the manager's job the board asked him if he would relocate to the Burnley area. He said no.

Re: 3 days in Burnley? Technical Director
Simple....if the jobspec stipulates spending 3 days a week in Burnley and candidates don't like this DON'T apply. Seems perfectly reasonable to me. We're talking about a top job here for someone with one of the best football clubs in the world. Possibly The Times spinning the facts to fill space.

Like some people have already said there are some great places to live around and not to far from burnley. Burnley it's self is a s***hole. But it's our s***hole and I for one love the place. UTC
Re: 3 days in Burnley? Technical Director
I don't know why but the song One night in Bangkok from the musical chess came to mind when i read the op.
Burnley Lancashire setting ,
And the city don't know that the city is getting
The creme de la creme of the chess world
In a show with everything but Yul Brynner
Time flies doesn't seem a minute
Since the Tirolean spa had the chess boys in it
All change don't you know that when you
Play at this level there's no ordinary venue
It's Iceland or the Philippines or Hastings or
Or this place!
One night in Burnley and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
And if you're lucky then the god's a she
I can feel an angel sliding up to me
One town's very like another
When your head's down over your pieces, brother
It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pity
To be looking at the board, not looking at the city
Whaddya mean?
Ya seen one crowded, polluted, stinking town
Tea, girls, warm, sweet
Some are set up in the Somerset Maugham suite
Get thai'd, you're talking to a tourist
Whose every move's among the purest
I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine
One night in Burnley makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Burnley and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me
Siam's gonna be the witness
To the ultimate test of cerebral fitness
This grips me more than would a
Muddy old river or reclining Buddha
And thank God I'm only watching the game controlling it
I don't see you guys rating
The kind of mate I'm contemplating
I'd let you watch, I would invite you
But the queens we use would not excite you
So you better go back to your bars, your temples
Your massage parlours
One night in Burnley and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
A little flesh, a little history
I can feel an angel sliding up to me
One night in Burnley makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Burnley and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me
Definitely to complicated for the Cricket field.

Aha! I always thought there was a touch of ABBA in that song.
