Stokes gone.
Daft review.

That 200's looking a long way off at the moment, after such a good start.
Missed the Clarets flag too.
The Clarets flag was there by the way, the owners of said flag sit next but one and two seats away from me in the Bob Lord stand.

They had tickets for the ten days of the first two test matches.

Sri Lanka have got this one!
Aye - Sri Lanka are bookies favourites now (8/15 cf. England @ 13/8). It only takes a couple of good deliveries to change everything though so Ive just bunged a couple of bob on England.
Interesting prelude to the entertaining-looking rugby games later in the day.

Will the game be decided by those 5 dubious penalty runs? That would be a talking point.
Could be close.

Another one, then going off for rain. Swinging back in England's favour? We shalll have to wait and see!

Sri Lanka scored 125 for their last three wickets in the first innings ---who knows what will happen. Another good Test Match.

Whatever the result, it's been another cracking match.
I think it's a bit sad really that Test cricket isn't as popular now.

I agree Buxton. I would still rather watch Test cricket rather than any other form of the game ---perhaps it is an age thing.

In these modern times, the younger end want things instantly, therefore, a match of 20 overs per team with a result at the end fits in with their concentration levels and satisfies their expectation.

Me too, Ash.
I still regard Test cricket as the real thing.
There doesn't seem to be any patience for it anymore.

Likewise, I prefer tests - but watch all forms on TV. In terms of live cricket, I go to 4/5 day games mainly and the odd 50 overs game. Cant be bothered travelling to and from games for T20.
It's been a really good year for England tests. This series has been excellent so far and some of the Eng v India games were really good viewing (though test 2 & 3 were too one-sided). Ashes to come next year too.
Having said all that, I'm about to tune in to Oz v SA which Ive just spotted is on BTSport, reduced to 10 overs per side now.

England are slight favourites but this could go to the wire,Leach could be on for a 5 for shows in helpful conditions he can be a threat.

Pakistan/New Zealand shaping up to be a thriller as well, the Kiwis trailing by 18 runs but 9 2nd innings wickets in hand to set a testing target.

Cricinfo says the start is a quarter hour earlier at 9.45 am Sri Lanka time.

Google says that Sri Lanka time is 5 and a half hours ahead of England time, which means the start is 4.15 am GMT.

Sri Lanka are 5.5 hours ahead of the UK.

I had not checked the start time but assume they are playing catch up from the lost rain time today?

The wife is even less impressed.

Another good test to watch with a fitting ending for Jack Leach getting his first 'five for'
Memories of Josh Buttler coming in when we were struggling in the first innings and dominating the bowlers. Some great fielding by Stokes with the run out and then a superb catch. Some good, entertaining batting from both sides, some decent bowling in with some real dross at times.
Joe Root starting hesitantly in the second innings and then going on to get a wonderful hundred.
Jennings taking a superb catch at short leg and then his wonderful attempt when he parried the ball to Foakes.
Test match cricket at its best and even going into a fifth day!!

This England team isn't perfect by any means, but they have a knack of edging close games,India twice in the summer and now Sri Lanka.

Will give this young squad a major boost heading to the Caribbean, and of course the Ashes next Summer.

That 60 run partnership between Curran and Anderson on day one ultimately proved vital.
