63 dead, over 1000 missing
This fire in California has been ******* brutal. I remember a few days ago the death toll was about half the current figure and it had matched the deadliest wildfire ever in the US, but the thought that a further 600 might have been killed by it is just insane.

Re: 63 dead, over 1000 missing
Now more than 1,000 people missing or unaccounted for.
Re: 63 dead, over 1000 missing
My friend Charles and his family just managed to escape from Paradise CA, their house was right next door to the Safeway shop which can be seen in news reports, all that remains is the brick chimney stack. I am in the process of collecting together old Beatrix Potter books for their toddler, I'm glad it is taking a while else they would have been lost with the house and its contents too.
Awful for those lost and for those who have lost loved ones....not to forget those who had to leave family pets behind in the rush. Charles managed to escape with his dogs - I know in the midst of all the human life lost this may seem trivial, but I'm such an animal lover that it always gets me even more down in the event of such tragedies.

Excuse my ignorance but the references to ‘camp fire’ is this a place or an assumed cause!?
It’s frightening how quickly it appears to have spread. If people weren’t woken by an alert or call, it could have been too late.

It began on the Camp Creek road, hence the 'Camp' fire. Sparks from damaged electric cables are being blamed as the cause.DCWat wrote:Excuse my ignorance but the references to ‘camp fire’ is this a place or an assumed cause!?

Allegedly, Morpheus, you don't want to help fund PG&E's legal costs do you?morpheus2 wrote:Sparks from damaged electric cables are being blamed as the cause.
Surprised it's taken Turtle this long to put a thread up on the topic. if it was an east coast hurricance he's have been covering it when it was still a puff of air.
the scale of this needs some understanding
- 10,000 homes destroyed. Imagine that - 10,000 homes. Is that half of Burnley?
- 150,000 acres raised - that's roughly 300,000 football pitches
- 6,000 fire fighters and 650 trucks
- only 50% contained
- still another 15,000 buildings considered under threat
- roughly 75,000 people displaced. Paradise's population is 25,000 - where the heck do they go/get schooled/earn a living?

I’m sure imploding turtle can look after himself but why do a lot of people bully him? What’s he done wrong? I don’t get it?NRC wrote:nah, didn't translate..... what am I accused of?

In my case, Claret, I'm actually an IT fan - am on record as such, and actually never really debate him because I often find myself in lock-step with him...... so on that basis I feel empowered to have a gentle dig, hence my "puff or air" tone...... I'm surprised IT didn't recognize the tongue-in-cheek nature of it, if that's what he's implying....

I can't help thinking that California needs troops slightly more than the US-Mexico border does at the moment.
