NOW TV

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sat Nov 17, 2018 11:28 am

Anyone got this?

Dont bother that much with TV. Have BT sports free. But dont have sky sports etc

But is Now TV worth it and does it work out more expensive than just getting sky?

If the movies are good may use that.

Cant be arsed with firesticks or them daft hd boxes. Always waiting for them to go off or the picture to start lagging.

Would mainly watch football and occasionaly movies.

Just been recommended it. But like everything these days seems theres about 25 versions of the package.

Its handy enough, particularly around Christmas when there is a lot of stuff going on sport wise.

I tend to only renew it when I need something, so as said I get the whole shebang pass for a month around mid December and does me fine for TV and Sports while I'm off work. Quality is generally very good as well

Have a few mates who get the 24 hour pass for when Bolton games are on Sky (poor souls)

Just thinking of purchasing one of these, just a quick question after the three month free trial, can you watch free content on the stick or do you have to pay a monthly contract,I just want to dip in and out of it when I want to watch a certain game or F1 or golf,is there any free content on the stick cheers

I really can't remember. It was last Christmas when I last renewed. Probably not. But if you buy the NowTV stick from them, you get iPlayer (bbc) and All4 (channel 4) on demand content, plus YouTube as well, which I use a lot of documentaries etc. Some newer TV's have the NowTV app available to install so you don't need any additional hardware.

Honestly, I'm a cord cutter in the sense that the only thing I pay for is broadband these day. I watch FreeSat/FreeView (rarely eenough) on a box where I can record. I use iPlayer/All4 for stuff and then dip into NowTV as and when I want something (such a new box set TV show or Chistmas when I know I will have time off to watch TV). I also have a IPTV for football to watch Burnley games.

It works very well for me, I must have saved hundreds over the last 2 years. Was paying ridiculous amount for a package I barely used so just picking and choosing is very simple and suits me.

I have one. Theyre crap for streaming and live sports imo.

Good for amazon content etc. But i hate the hassle of finding a good stream for boxing and football.

Literally just want to watch the odd live lunchtime game and dont want it going off.

I've used Now TV for 2 or 3 Grand Prix this year when the actual start time has suited me much better than the C4 highlights start time.

It has cost me around £7 for each which is a damn sight cheaper than a Sky sub.

That's because you are using free links for your footie! Great overall and brilliant for any TV and films.

Currently watching Outlander, from the first episode. Absolutely exceptional series.

But my friend also pays. The quality isnt as good as proper tv, it can lag and definitely cuts out. Ots also behind.

Im not after one for burnley games that i dont go to. More for actual games that are on sky saturday lunchtime etc.

I’ve signed up with these and currently on my second month. Not had one issue with playback and all done through Firestick. I’ve been a previous user of Sportsmania and PLEX and this has performed much better.

£15 a month, £30 for 3 or £70 for the full year.

Yes but only one can be used at a time similar to Sportsmania. They do offer a multi room package though.

So me and my wife as an effort to reduce monthly outgoings around the time our daughter was about to be born cancelled Sky. We loved it, but I think we were paying something like £90 a month which is pretty mental (that’s without internet too).

We went to Now TV with their sports pass, £33 a month. It’s been absolutely fine, but we are both now saying that we miss Sky (although that might just be because we are about to get a 4K tv and I want to watch the games in HDR...). I don’t like having to use iPlayer etc for live TV, and the lack of a really robust recording/box sets/series linking etc does let it down (it has those features but they are not as strong an offering as Sky).

You get what you pay for - it’s totally serviceable and works great/is cheap but I do feel you get a better package with Sky, although you really should for the price!

I always renegotiate with Sky. Currently getting full TV from them for £43.50). This is Sky HD and not Sky Q.

Think people are getting confused between legitimate and "grey" ways of watching content.

As said, NowTV is the streaming arm of Sky and is split up as such into sport, entertainment, etc which just works from the get go via their app or stick

There is an array of IPTV packages / devices / configurations are available but not all decent or respectible.

My dad, a barely-tech-literate person, decided to can his Sky subscription for the IPTV service he was using. I told him that you pay your money, you the your chance and sure enough it went down and he had a few weeks without Sports right around Ryder Cup time.

NowTV is a decent fall back as he can just buy the month of Sport when he needs it, which is exactly what I will be buying for Christmas! ;)

I've just received an e-mail stating that it's up for grabs for 9 months @ £186 complete with
a smart stick. :? :? :? Save yourself a tenner it would seem. :D

Have used it on the odd occasion through the "NOW" box, for a one-off payment, and it's been fine.

I’m doing without Sky for the first time in 20 years. I cancelled, they didn’t ring me up, sod it.

I got a NOW TV stick for the Ryder Cup and one Clarets away match, the quality was way short of satellite, even in HD (in theory) and running off fibre broadband WI-FI. The ball turns into a small meteor etc.

I miss the occasional match and miss pausing Live TV, but to be honest I don’t miss much, and am saving £50 per month. Sky have diddled us by putting most big games on at 12pm Saturday when I am on my way to the Turf, I’m not fretting missing Cardiff v Fulham on Super (?) Sunday. Just watching one box set after another on IPlayer, Netflix or Amazon for £15 p.m. total.

If you want to pause live TV, treat yourself to a Humax digital recorder - excellent investment for me.
Granted it's not got Sky content, but it's got all Youview content from co-axial connection. If you already
have a dish, there is a version of the box for satellite content which has a few more programmes available
so I believe. Both versions are subscription free.

Still no SKY though I'm afraid.

“What app do you currently use on your device”

Don’t understand that question, Ian, under the option where I’ve selected Firestick?

Never one to promote sky given murdochs a cnut however I ended up with a free voucher for mow tv sky sports from a pack of beer before our last televised game (Cardiff I think) . Ashamed to say I used it given sportsmanias demise. Then realised I couldn’t get it up on my tele without wiring the laptop up. Then saw some of those dongles reduced to a fiver in Sainsbury’s on the day of the game. Reluctantly purchased one of those. That had vouchers in for a months free entertainment and cinema. Applied those. Went to cancel it all at month end. Got a response saying please stay we’ll knock a few quid off the full price of each subscription. Declined that then got offered each subscription for literally a couple of quid per month for 6 months.
At which point my previously sky denied teenage kids threatened mutiny so I’m in for 6 months now.

To all those who pay full price please assuage my guilt at funding the machine by clicking cancel substriction twice to get the reduced rate and hopefully we can paradoxically drive them to bankruptcy together

It feels good to share

Not did I. I typed....I don't understand the question!
No effect. When I then signed up for a year, after my initial 1w hours, I was able to say, SSNI in the box.

Wish I understood this.

I have an amazon firestick and use it for all on demand services, iplayer, YouTube etc.

Happy to pay £15 pcm or £70 pa (never has Sky or Virgin or anything, only freebies)..... just no idea how to do it?

Can you get the sky go app on one of these or better still a Roku stick?
So that I can plug it in another room and watch sky
Would be cheaper than buying a separate sky mini box
