Is £595 million even worth getting out of bed for these days?

This is the deal the breakaway talk was caused by as the clubs felt it undervalued the 5th biggest league in Europe - even says so in the report - so the clubs will be very unhappy - so really didn't need a new thread - could have gone on one of the few others and said that the breakaway crew have been ignored by the EFL board

also it is a 5 year deal - which is a hell of a long time in the current market - at £119m a season - compared to the next domestic Premier League deal at around £1.6billion a season or complete Premier League deal at £3billion plus a season

Might mean some manager doesn't have to go cap in hand to Pune

the last few deals have been lower, so this is an increase. 5 years seems too long, but who is going to pay more than Sky

Deals like this show how vital retaining PL status is,especially for clubs that don't have a sugar daddy to bail them out which we don't.

Heard this a few times but have they actually shown any strong interest in bidding for football rights? (Genuine question as I don't know if hey have)

I appreciate it's not a lot compared to premier league money, however is this not a good deal for league 1 and 2 clubs?

Championship clubs can complain, but they have the chance to get premier league money, and parachute payments however clubs in league 1 and 2 will drop further and further away in future, and have little chance of getting back up due to FFP rules.
5 years is a long time, but what was to happen if it was a 3 year deal and it didn't pull in the ratings, meaning no competition for the deal and less money on offer next time round. Championship clubs, and everyone else for that matter are going to want more, but is that even available?

Bid for, and won, 20 games a year from next season in the PL.

Amazon's bid was so low for those 20 games (all 10 games on 2 match days - one being Boxing day) that the Premier League have not even made the amount public

Why did the EFL accept the bid, simply because it was the best bid they received, in spite of a number of clubs campaigning to have a breakaway agreement.
JTClaret is correct in the fact that the League 1 and League 2 clubs were happy with the arrangement because it gives them some coverage and extra revenue which most of them are in need of.
The Leeds owner is the Chairman and Founder of Eleven Sports and is very critical of the deal, however, he will have to suck it and see what happens.

I'm not sure but I have also heard the rumours at times. If they decided to it would be no problem because they could buy and sell Sky. If they ever did it would be interesting to see what they would charge the customer. Amazon Prime is great value at £7-odd a month but many TV series and films they actually charge extra for. I suspect they would go down the pay per view route, which I think would be a good idea.

A few people in this thread have clearly not read the article properly.

The news that this deal was imminent is the reason the rebel clubs are looking to breakaway, so its announcement is the first sign of the upcoming war, not proof the breakaway was all bluff.

But hey, this forum is all about commenting your opinion without knowing anything about the subject...
