Crap on BBC

Post by basil6345789 » Tue Nov 20, 2018 11:24 pm

Just looking at BBC and it's showing American Football. Most irritating commentators. To think that BBC waste money on such shoite and are threatening to take free licences off dying old folk.

It's all part of a political mandate to try and build the UK according to the Amercian model. It's the biggest societal disaster here since biblical times.

It’s the BBC showing a sport that millions follow avidly but you don’t happen to like. Turn it off and go to bed.

Why do you think there is this massive drive to get an NFL team into Wembley and every year the 3 UK matches sell out? And why do Sky show 5 live matches per week?

Some people will use any reason as an excuse to bash the BBC.

As some have said, if you don't like it, turn it off or change the channel.

I'm not into NFL but some of my mates are massive fans. Telling people they're wrong for enjoying something you happen not to like is a bit fascist tbh ;)

Seriously? NFL?

I’ve met people into all kinds of sports - golf, rugby, F1, snooker, cricket even ten pin bowling for goodness sake, but I am yet to meet someone into American football. All these millions must be keeping it secret I assume?

Beeb seem to have an agenda to promote it much like women’s football.

I know lots of people into it mate. I can watch it but I'm not an avid fan. It's down to the individual, personally I think golf, cricket and darts are the worlds worst sports for TV (or at all in fact) but it doesn't stop people watching and enjoying them. I'd love to see more Aussie rules on TV but I don't expect it to happen any time soon.

Typical insular pig-headed response to a “foreign” sport.

They’re showing it because there’s demand for it, simple as. It’s not part of a policitical agenda ffs it’s a sport that’s growing in popularity in the UK. NFL Show Saturday nights has more interesting and insightful pundits than MOTD as well.

Just because you don’t like it...... :)

And I'm yet to meet someone who is into ten pin bowling.

How is the attendance at the national 10 pin bowling tournament ? Did they sell nearly 300,000 tickets in a matter of minutes when they issued tickets for 3 games like NFL ? Or was it a half empty bowling alley with 42 overweight people eating the free pizza they got with their £2 ticket ?

I get that americans would enjoy it, they seem to love terrible sports for some reason.
In the UK though, fans of american football are usually sales reps and bores.
It is dull beyond belief, and whilst people say don't watch it then, or turn to another channel, that's not the point.
Quite often there does seem to be an agenda for foisting these hideous sports onto the viewers for no good reason that I can see.

Clearly not....it`s not on every week. If it was then yes they may do.

Nobody is saying it is anywhere near as popular as football and it clearly never will be in this country.

But if the UK did host an NFL game every week then the attendance statistics compared to sports such as cricket, tennis and other traditional sports in this country might make for interesting reading. You might want to check out the attendances in county cricket for example ?

Don't know what the big issue is here - i don't like Amercian football but if there was no appetite for it in this country as some are suggesting why is there so much demand for tickets for the games and why do so many people watch it on BBC and Sky ? If the demand was not there does anybody seriously think that Murdoch would carry on showing it ?

Seems like many on here wish to do just that.

There are other channels to watch you know. Just as crap as the good ol BBC (some if not more so)

I’d rather sit though an NFL game than watch cricket.

Cricket is just glorified bat and ball that requires no real skill, just requires practise from a young age and if your sad enough to keep doing it, you become a cricket player.

Because your post is so over the top and plain wrong. If you don’t like it so be it but I’d guess you’ve never watched more than 5 minutes because it has everything.
Power between the offence and defensive lines. Power, strength and speed from the running backs. Brains, guile, elusiveness and passing accuracy from the quarterback and the speed, trickery and catching ability of the wide receivers. On top of all that you have know idea what each play will bring and over 50% of games come down to the last 2 minutes and keep you on the edge of your seat.

You're not really comparing eggs with eggs there though are you. To compare with county cricket for example, you'd have to have 18 NFL teams, based nationwide playing in multiple, seasonal competitions to compare properly. One team, playing one game per week, in London, is a totally different scenario.

There is demand for tickets at present due to the novelty. I fully expect an NFL franchise based in London would do ok. Not convinced one based in say Durham or Gloucester would.

A better starting point for comparing sports would be to compare TV viewing figures.

I don't get NFL or any of the American sports for that matter, but I've no issue with folk watching and enjoying them. It's each to their own. What I do find odd though is the sudden push by Sky to convince us all that NBA etc is great and them running with major headlines etc. It feels a bit like they are losing the rights for the sports they know we want to watch so they are now trying to convince us that other sports are equally as good.

Not really comparing as there will be nothing to compare NFL to whatever model they end up with over here. Just saying it will be interesting to see the attendances and viewing figures alongside some of the more “traditional” sports. As I said I don’t like the sport but clearly from the interest in NFL live games, the TV audience figures, and the amount of people playing the sport in this country (at Universities etc) its a lot more popular than some posters on this thread realise.
I don’t get why people would object to a sport they don’t like being on TV.....when there is such a simple solution to avoid it !

Why, because I said that I would be surprised if ‘millions’ in the UK ‘avidly’ follow the NFL?

If there are millions avidly following and watching the BBC and SKY coverage, then I can see why it’s shown but I’d still be surprised at such a figure.

It probably attracts more than the WSL mind.

The NFL surveys the UK annually to find out how many 'avid fans' they have over here.

This is defined as someone who says they're "extremely interested" in the NFL or that it is their favourite sport.

They reckon they have between 4 and 6 million avid fans in the UK.

I really enjoy American Football and try to watch as many games as I can during the season. It's a very tactical game and the strength and speed of some of the players is incredible. I went to see my first live game in London recently - fantastic experience and a great atmosphere. The NFL London games seem to get more popular every year and people even travel over from abroad (I came over from Spain).

Those who seem to hate the sport so much and belittle its fans aren't likely to change their opinions anytime soon. However, if they were open-minded, I'd recommend they see an NFL game live if they ever get the opportunity. Sometimes seeing and experiencing a game for real can make quite an impression. While the London games have been great, I believe they're not a patch on NFL experience in the US where people really make a day of it with the tailgate beforehand etc. It's just a different culture I guess. Would like to experience that one day.
