Passing on hospital parking tickets good or bad ?

Post by SmudgetheClaret » Wed Nov 21, 2018 5:28 pm

I've been spending a fair amount of time visiting a hospital lately and I usually get a all day ticket which does add up I can tell you, I pretty much always give the ticket to someone else as I leave who's about to pay as there are no cameras or Reg number linked to the ticket ..so is it just a nice thing to do or is it starving the hospital of much needed funds assuming they recieve it ?

I understand your point as I have done it also.

It could be viewed as a one off but if everyone did it, it is diluting the parking fee money to the trust.... (but like you say) assuming they receive it!
But if its a parking company who pay to police the parking ... I'd say you have just stuck one on the nose of a blood sucking parasite.

Just be careful though, if you or the person you gave it to got caught it is frowned upon.

Nothing wrong with it for me, probably illegal but I often did the same when my partner was in the birthing suite with our 2nd. You're right when you say it adds up though, when you're in and out for 5-6 days and there's literally nowhere within 15 minutes walk to park.

Yes I totally agree it is stealing from the public charging for car parking to visit someone in hospital. :D

When a car park at a hospital earns more per hour than the minimum wage then yes, I would pass it on!

It’s not stealing at all; you are paying for 1 car in one space for a set by the machine. Whoever uses that space is covered by that ticket. Also, a lot of these machines don’t give change which IMO, these days, is stealing from the payee. All the profits from car parking does, is make the accounts look better so the CEO gets a bigger bonus.

That ticket has purchased a bay for the day. Who fills that bay should be irrelevant.

How can it be theft when it is handed over willingly? Fraudulent use maybe.

Cant see anything wrong with that, ive done it myself and i was once offered a ticket which i had no problem in accepting, i dont know who gets the money but, if your stuck at the hospital for hours which is usually the case, it can cost a small fortune so if i get offered a ticket again i wont be turning it down.

Can’t do it up here they are all equipped with ANPR so you have to enter your number plate.

When you pass on your ticket, no-one is losing out really - as the space that you paid for is still being used. I always give it away, if no one is about, I’ll leave my ticket folded up in the coin slot of the machine.

Has anyone ever been ticketed at Burnley Hospital? I was there during an evening with my daughter, I still paid, but I wondered if it was a waste of money as there was hardly any cars about anyway.

It's a rip-off when they charge say £1.90 for 3 hours but won't give change, knowing that most people would only have two £1 coins to put into the machine!

Why not just charge £2 in that instance?

I was once told that they didn’t check after 5.30om as all the wardens worked 9 to 5.30. As a result I never bought a ticket and was never done.

Recently I was admitted into Blackpool hospital late one evening and the nurse told my wife not to bother paying as nobody would be checking.

Some trusts have actually already sold off the car parks. Yank corporations are queuing up for the rest of the nhs. I approve of any direct action

Hospitals / The NHS could save so much time, effort and much needed money if they got their act together.

Sure theyre understaffed at times. And even possibly underfunded. But they dont half create a lot of their own problems through major inefficiencies and wasted money. I see it first hand constantly.

Its not the lack of resources thats the issue half time. Like most public bodies!

There is a criminal waste of cash and resources in the NHS ! There are also many great devoted members of staff for whom we should be thankful, but it's a haven and an absolute soft touch for the malingerers, who will take hangover days and sickies at the drop of a hat, in the full knowledge that they'll be paid anyway...
