Rainbow Laces
Rainbow Laces
Nice gesture of support from the Welsh RFU. Wales wear them at the weekend in support of Gareth Thomas who suffered a homophobic assault last weekend.

Re: Rainbow Laces
To be fair to the French, they announced this step first - GT played for Toulouse for a couple of years and seems to be well regarded there. (I'm not suggesting the Welsh lads wouldn't have done it otherwise but that may've given them a nudge).
It's a pretty good move all round. Also pretty big of GT to opt for "restorative justice" rather than gathering a gang of his mates to give the culprit(s) a hammering.

I never had them. Got 30p a day for sweets off my Dad.
10p for 10 sour apple slices
10p for a Roy of the Rovers chew
10p for a mix bag of penny sweets
Bliss
Re: Rainbow Laces
I wonder if a refusal to wear these laces when the rest of the team does is regarded the same way as not wearing a poppy. Someone removed/ stole a rainbow flag from outside a local Police Station and it was filed as a 'hate crime.'

Refusal to wear the laces would be the same as refusing to wear a poppy. Some people would kick off about it but sensible people will understand.claret59 wrote:I wonder if a refusal to wear these laces when the rest of the team does is regarded the same way as not wearing a poppy. Not sure what stealing a rainbow flag from a police station has got to do with anything. Comparing apples with oranges that.

Re: Rainbow Laces
Wearing the laces is optional. I’m not sure any of our players wore them last season.claret59 wrote:I wonder if a refusal to wear these laces when the rest of the team does is regarded the same way as not wearing a poppy. Re: Rainbow Laces
I would regard it the same way as refusing to wear a pink ribbon when the rest of the office was promoting moral support for those affected by breast cancer.claret59 wrote:I wonder if a refusal to wear these laces when the rest of the team does is regarded the same way as not wearing a poppy.

Re: Rainbow Laces
How in gods name being gay can be likened to breast cancer is beyond belief .
As for for GT who now makes his living being a gay ex rugby player ( he posted the whole thing on Twitter) it’s very sad to see he was assaulted . Though quite bizzare that after what looks like a nasty unproved violent assault that no charges are to be brought against the 16yr old boy who attacked him . The guy should be sent to prison for a bang to rights violent hate crime imo . As for the wearing of laces as support for an ex player it’s a nice gesture though again how it can be compared to remembering millions of war dead is bizzare in the extreme

Re: Rainbow Laces
Alarge, I think the point being made is that, like the wearing of a poppy, the wearing of rainbow laces is down to choice, freedom of choice. If you'd like to fine, if you don't then nobody has any right whatsoever to criticise you.
It doesn't stop the usual gobshites on here sounding off about being unpatriotic or disrespectful every damn November or hinting, quite slyly, that one cause is more important than another...
