That’s my hopes dashed.
Still fingers crossed, we could get an abundant spurt.

Dyche will be out of work in January, so he doesn't have to worry about it.

Well at least the excitement was good whilst it lasted. Even for BFC this as got to be a record for quelling expectations. He doesn’t even start the job for another two days!!

Re: Dyche says dont expect a flurry of signings
I don't think we have much chance of signing anyone that would improve us straight away, if at all. We missed the boat in the last 2 windows. If the players we all know we need would not come then, we have no chance now. I feel sorry for Gibson.
The logic of our Board will be that it is a waste of our massive savings to spend when we have a evens chance of going down. Oddly, I am thinking that that makes sense.
I have missed only about 5 home games in the last 50 years, but right now I am beginning to lose interest due to the pathetic attitude of our Board and the stubbornness of our manager. It won't take many more 442''s being overrun in midfield to push me over the edge.

Slightly less exciting than Januarys under Cotterill when Chaplow left, Akinbiyi left, Blake left etc

7 games in December to prove me wrong then. Just out of interest how many out of the 7 games do you think we will win? I'm going for none and dyche sacked in new year.DCWat wrote:I’ll have you a bet he’s not.

So, for clarity, you’ve watched all but 5 or so games in the past 50 years and you’ve concluded that our most successful part of that 50 years isn’t good enough and you’re losing interest?summitclaret wrote:I have missed only about 5 home games in the last 50 years, but right now I am beginning to lose interest due to the pathetic attitude of our Board and the stubbornness of our manager. Yes and it is because I can' the comprehend how a club could blow such an opportunity with such negligence regarding transfers.
We have peaked and I can tell you that there a plenty of people that think we should be in the championship where we can start to enjoy going on the Turf again.

What opportunity have we blown btw?
An opportunity that sees more established clubs relegated each season from the Prem, such as Stoke, Villa, West Brom, Sunderland, Swansea etc.?

On the window you do have a point. January and August this year were the best chance we have ever had to sign top class players in their prime. If they wouldnt come, we werent interested or couldnt afford better than what we got why would that change now.summitclaret wrote:I don't think we have much chance of signing anyone that would improve us straight away, if at all. I don't get the accusation of negligence either. It would only be negligent, if we simply didn't bother to try and sign players for the positions that need strengthening.
All the indications are that the players were out of our price range or simply wouldn't come.
Sad, but that's the way it goes for a Club like us at this level sometimes.

SD's comments don't surprise me one bit. I stated on a previous threat that I didn't expect any incomings unless we had major outgoings and I'll stick by that. This January window for me is just plain stupid and not the time to be bedding players into a squad.

Re: Dyche says dont expect a flurry of signings
TBH I dont think we will be able to attract the right sort of permanent signing.
Players good enough for this league wont want to sign for a club that might drop out of the league nor one that showed our ambition when we were 7th never mind 17th.
That leaves loans. And we all know that its a last resort for Dyche and even then rarely uses them.

What makes anyone think that a top class player would come to Burnley when last season was still viewed as a fantastic fluke for all concerned and we were never going to match such heights again?
Out of interest, was level of player do you think we should have gone in for?

Steve Clarke,
Fat Sam,
Martin O’Neill
David Moyes
All far superior tacticians to Dyche and nowhere near as rigid.
There would be a raft of managers from Europe aswell that would be interested but we don’t go down that route.

Not sure about O'Neill, but I think Dyche has outsmarted all the others when we've played their various teams.
We finished higher than Moyes' and BFS' teams last season too!

No doubt. But he wasnt signed as a first choice player. He was backup to Mee / his replacement IF he left.Spijed wrote:Gibson looked a good player when Boro were in the Prem.
What we needed was a replacement for Defour and an upgrade on Cork and Hendrick. Everyone could see that.
Defour is an outstanding player. But he isnt all of a sudden going to start playing 50 games a season now!

Anyone expecting a flurry of signings in January, haven't been a Burnley fan for very long.
Re: Dyche says dont expect a flurry of signings
Surely a flurry (6 or 7) would be as bad as none? Trying to remake the side in one window. 3 would be better. Don't jump on me. Just an opinion...

Hopefully we revisit the areas that needed attention in the summer, namely a left winger and central midfielder who can pass a ball (preferably forwards and ideally to one of his teammates).

And it's a fair one. Six or seven signings in one window would reek of panic buying, and that's before they had time to all gel into a functional team etc.Fenwick wrote:Surely a flurry (6 or 7) would be as bad as none? I'll throw one random name out there, Mattéo Guendouzi cost Arsenal 7 million from a team in the French Second division - he's head and shoulders above any of our midfielders. The players are out there, our scouting has been abysmal and hopefully Rigg has enough knowledge to pick up some quality in January and going forward.
