January window

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Thu Nov 29, 2018 9:52 pm

What do you expect. In and out?

I suspect we will see:

Out - Heaton (loan), McNeil (loan) and possibly Hendrick (sold).

In - Rodriguez (£22m)

It will be Dyche's last throw of the dice to turn things round.
Has any manager been relegated twice from the premier league with the same club before?

3 big signings needed that go straight in the first team and can make a difference.

Certainly not a flurry of signings!

Dyche has already ruled that out but it irritates me slightly that
he feels he has to say that and then talk about the bigger picture - whatever that refers to?

I don't think any Burnley fans were/are hoping for a flurry.

We're hoping for one or two and to get the opportunity to see them play
and hopefully make a positive contribution to us staying up.

Not that much to ask for, is it?

I would be more than happy to get the current squad playing in a balanced, effective manner, with a more positive, attacking style of play. I don't, however, hold out much hope.

A strong athletic ball winning midfielder. Maybe a LB. Don't think we are too far away just need a little more composure from the players.

We need a ball winning goal scoring midfielder that's got an aggressive edge to his game, no idea who but he'll cost us big bucks. Here's hoping ;)

Can't imagine we would have a chance of getting him and I wouldn't class him as a ball winner but he is strong, athletic and good going forwards and probably better than pretty much all our squad so would be an amazing signing. Would be ideal for Hendrick's false 10 role.

I could understand him if we had all our players available all the time but there appears to be a different injury every week.
This is completely stopping the team from getting any rhythm or pattern.
We need a big man in midfield to compliment Defour and Cork, who can look lightweight. We need pace up front.

To sign who at city though? We're certainly not going to be signing anyone from there permanently.

Loan deals have proved pretty much pointless for us recently. The only 2 standing out for me for loans are Foden and Diaz. Foden won't be loaned to us and Diaz probably isn't quite ready to be a pivotal player to save a team in a relegation fight.

I think we will have 1 eye on next season and protect the clubs financial standing with a view to wages etc and start looking for players to help us push for a return. I think other clubs will be also looking at our predicament and look to offer money we cant refuse for our better players, and it will be down to the clubs resolve and the players agents as to how that goes, knowing most will probably have a low amount release clause if we were to be relegated.
It would be a great story for us to spend a fortune and stay up, but Burnley and risk taking?

We need at least 2 or 3 players of genuine quality in January. We may not get them but we’d better bloody try!

If the board decide Dyche is still the man for the job (which I've no doubt they will even if the performances from now until January are just as abject) then he needs to be backed. We need a very good midfielder and we will have to pay for one and a half hearted attempt in this window will not do. Just spending £22 million on someone like Jay Rod will not help us in my opinion. If Dyche feels we cannot be more creative with players we have then he needs to be able to get them in. If we balls up the window and the performances then don't improve we will not attract anyone decent to do the management job and will be relegated.

No need to relocate the family.
Stoke maybe looking to offload if balancing the books and promotion not looking likely.

It's who starts in the other 1 or 2 places should he arrive.

Cork
Defour
Westwood
Hendrick

All for 1 slot, maybe 2 slots the odd game we are playing for a nil.
Can't see 2 or 3 of the aforementioned settling for a place on the bench or not in the squad at all on a regular basis.

We missed a trick with Brooks from Sheff Utd in the summer IMO, however I'd certainly like to see a couple of young and hungry players of similar quality.

It will take them a while to bed in and it's the odd 30 mins of fearless play that may help us.
Should the worst happen they are hear ready to bounce us back up.
If we stay up they are ready for next season.
Both allows them a full pre season and time to get with our methods.

Sadly I think the window will be as much of a sucess as the previous 2 or 3 :-(

If you look at the cut throat Championship I'd say it's easier to stay in the Premier League than get promoted to it.
Preparing for next season in the Championship is taking a step forward and two huge leaps back in this club's development.
At the moment, we're in a mini league within the Premier League. Playing Chelsea, Liverpool, City etc are all free hits. Where we play next season is not dependent on how we do against them. Any points we pick up against those 'top 6' clubs are effectively a bonus.
What we can't afford is not taking points home and away from those teams within our mini league. We need to average two points per game against those teams around us.
I'm not totally sure new personnel will guarantee that or if it's just a change in luck we need.
But we do need to play with more purpose and guile instead of attacking with defence in mind.
Ball on the floor running at defenders... You never know we might get a penalty shout.
I'll support this club whatever league we're in.. But let's not just roll over and give in.
Let's let the handbrake off and go for it.

The only two positions I think we don't need strengthening are centre half and keeper. Fullbacks and centre mid are the real problems areas for me so if we can address that with some 3 players who would come into the 1st team I'd be delighted. I won't be holding my breath though

Joe Allen or Fabian Delph would be good. Both will be on big wages but possibly still near to our limit. Doubt Delph would come as he still gets a bit of game time at City and looks like Mendy is a crock as he is out for another 3 months now.

Joe Allen might come though - big Sam needs to have a word.

I’d be going for a striker aswell - but ain’t got a clue who. Part of me thinks we need to sign somebody younger than our current strikers and start planning for the future but I also want to stay up so think we need someone who can hit the ground running. Very hard to think of who could do that and personally I would take Jay.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has told fans not to expect an influx of signings in January. (Lancashire Telegraph)

I don’t think we ever expect an “influx” but we’re in desperate need of some new blood.....we are looking disorganised in defence, lacking ideas in midfield and one-dimensional up front!
If it’s not an “influx” it needs to be 2/3 VERY good additions......but I wouldn’t put your mortgage on it happening!!

That doesn't sound great imo

Ther wont be many games left come the end of the transfer deadline.
If any new signings arnt up to being Dyche fit by then it could be too late anyway to have an effect on this season.

Shelvey, Allen, Delph(!) - just not realistic for a second
We need to be looking at players at Norwich, Brentford, Rotherham etc - we are a major attraction for clubs outside the PL, it’s our main selling point and we need to use it

If we continue to sign players from the likes of Brentford, Rotherham and Norwich, we will have a team that is fitting of the level those teams play at.

Let's at least have a go at staying up and not batten down the hatches at the first sign of advsersity

I'd like to think we can attract a couple of experienced PL players. someone like Joe Allen shouldn;t be out of reach, but also hope that the new Technical Director can find us a couple of foreign wildcards. Clubs in the PL unearth these types every season.

People won't be happy as they types of signing they consider would show 'ambition' are ones we couldn't afford and/or wouldn't want to come.

Joe Allen would be a championship signing and too old, too Dyche etc, etc, etc.

Leicester and Bournemouth must be gutted at the money they wasted on James Maddison (Norwich) and David Brooks (Sheffield).

The January window is going to be even harder than the summer one. We couldn't get players in with the prospect of a European campaign after finishing 7th - what hope do we have if we're in or around the relegation places.

If West Brom look like promotion then Jay Rod won't be coming back to us.

I suspect warde prowse may come in the reckoning again how he fits our system I haveno idea. Loftus cheek would be a fantastic loan but i’m Sure sari questioning his defensive qualities may mean he said isn’t right for us. I would be happy with warde prowse and Rodriguez and probably one other on loan.

Ar present we lack creativity, pace and the ability to move the ball
quickly so would hope we'd bring players who have what we seem to lack.
Possibly a couple of keen, fearless young players?
As well as one or two proven players.

We've nothing much to lose and I think we may need to take a few risks too
and hope they come off.

Who they might be I don't know.
That's not my job but hopefully Rigg will come up with one or two?

Not sure Jayrod should be one of them and he probably wouldn't come
now if he thinks we may be going down and West Brom still in with a chance of going up.
Apart from that I think Jayrod at 20m+ would be far too much.
We'd lose 10m+ on him if we were to be relegated.

Much prefer if we spent 20+ on two young players. Even if it's a risk.

Yellows and reds aside, he could get stuck in and releive some pressure off d4/cork
Surely within the budget , relatively young

3 big signings needed that go straight in the first team and can make a difference.
And we all know that won't happen because:

1. we won't make three big signings.
2. even if we did the season would be nearly over before Dyche considered them to be fit enough to use.

If any new signings arnt up to being Dyche fit by then it could be too late anyway to have an effect on this season.
What IS 'Dyche fit' anyway. We hear a lot about it but what is it? Is it running a player into the ground until he gets injured? Is it Dyche's way of not using decent players because he couldn't get the ones he wanted? Is it some mythological term that only Dyche understands? Whatever 'Dyche fit' is it's not currently working and seems to be preventing a damn good player (Vydra) from getting a game when we have won the only two games he has started in.
