Re: Barnes and Wood
Another double for the deadly duo!
A little frustrating that it took so long to go back to this partnership, after their success last season. They are made for each other

Absolutely. Was hoping to see this system along with Vokes and Vydra in a 60 game season.
Sadly not to be. But what a duo these two are. Perfect for one another.

Re: Barnes and Wood
Best partnership in the PL on this form, long may it continue, hopefully they can spur the other onward, they both have 8 league goals, every chance both will finish in double figures, defenders must hate playing against this duo.

Just imagine starting 4-5-1 without Barnes and Wood up top now. The mind boggles at the thought. Shudder.

Re: Barnes and Wood
As good as they've been together the best we've played under Dyche was 4-5-1 with Barnes as a brilliant impact sub. If we had the right personal in good form able to play to that level again I'd happily return to that formation (at least for some games).
If your shuddering at the thought of splitting up those two then you need to get a bit of a grip

Forwards have dips in form and think Wood is going through one. Barnes and Vydra could work, giving him his chance.jdrobbo wrote:Just imagine starting 4-5-1 without Barnes and Wood up top now. The mind boggles at the thought. Shudder.
Re: Barnes and Wood
Would drop Wood personally but doubt it will happen. He’ll probably play a blinder on Saturday now I’ve said that.

Re: Barnes and Wood
Totally agree about Wood, but for me, he’s only out of form where the goals scored column is concerned. His general play is excellent and I think he is massively underrated. Our style of play all depends on Chris Wood.

It’s great reading opposite opinions and I see your logic, but Chris Wood would be one of the very first names on my teamsheet.

Re: Barnes and Wood
I certainly rate him as you know, but also rate Vydra and he can't be far off being given a chance. He's certainly ahead of Jay, for me.jdrobbo wrote:Totally agree about Wood, but for me, he’s only out of form where the goals scored column is concerned. His general play isnt excellent and that's why when he's not scoring he'll be criticised.jdrobbo wrote:Totally agree about Wood, but for me, he’s only out of form where the goals scored column is concerned. Re: Barnes and Wood
If we are going with one up top then it has to be Jay for me, but that being said he hasn't looked all that good in the little I have seen of him this season so far so would rather we go with two up top. Wood is getting in positions but just not hitting the net at the moment. It will come and he'll end up on a roll. It's when he isn't getting in the positions to miss that we need to be concerned more.

Re: Barnes and Wood
I can never understand the debate on who plays up front, when the problem is in the middle.
Unless you feed the strikers, you might as well play me up front. I can miss chances and get caught offside as good as anyone.
Long balls to Wood and Barnes are effective, against some teams, but we always look better when we mix it. Our football was crap on Saturday because we were so predictable, and Brighton were ready for it. We get the ball on the deck, and pass it, and we score.
SD has shown that his teams can play a passing game, but when we struggle we always seem to fall back on the long ball, when we should be falling back on keeping the ball down.
Westwood and McNeil need to pick the ball up and run at defenders, it draws them in and leaves space for the wide men to exploit. I'd still prefer Hendrick in the middle to Cork, but the style we play is more important than who plays.

Re: Barnes and Wood
If Wood is good to go, I’d drop Jay for Wood and Pieters for Taylor. Nothing else need change....not until after Saturday.
Re: Barnes and Wood
I’d agree with that.
Re: Barnes and Wood
Think it's fairly certain that's what Dyche will do. Lowton must be close to the axe as well though....jdrobbo wrote:If Wood is good to go, I’d drop Jay for Wood and Pieters for Taylor. Nothing else need change....not until after Saturday.

Not on current form. Rodriguez and Wood would get the nod for me.jdrobbo wrote:Please be Wood and Barnes this Saturday. God we’re missing them
Re: Barnes and Wood
Nah it has to be Wood and Barnes. Proven track record.
In recent weeks it has felt like Rodriguez has been trying to do Barnes’ job and Barnes has been trying to do Wood’s. Hardly surprising it hasn’t worked, Wood is essential to the success of this team.

Re: Barnes and Wood
Its was only a game but I thought against Leicester (especially the first half) we looked more fluid in attack and had a lot more movement and interplay with Jay and Wood together than we have been doing with Barnes in the team.
Barnes is off form so if all fit Id give Wood and Jay a few games and let Barnes build up his confidence a bit as an impact sub which is a role he has been massively effective at in the past.
I think Dyche will go Wood and Barnes but it wouldnt be my preference

Re: Barnes and Wood
Let's not overcomplicate it with thoughts about fluid attacking football, we just need to get our best players back into the right positions in a 4-4-2 and work harder than the opposition, particularly against the likes of West Ham.
Wood and Barnes back together up front.Taylor must come back in, and probably Bardsley too if fit as he often seems to give us a lift and a bit of extra commitment.

Re: Barnes and Wood
Wood and Barnes is proven partnership get both bagging and its a real force
Barnes will definitely come back into form and hes due a goal having started the season on fire
Hes just been well marked
With Wood back the opposition will after think about two very good players

Said on this thread before the game and i'll say it again best strike force we have had since the 70s,when these two are on song and long may it continue, it's up there with the best

Re: Barnes and Wood
My observation is that both players often score in runs. Sometimes their runs combine and this often sees Burnley fly into great form!

At a different level but for me the Payton and Cooke partnership was the best I have seen and the most effective for the division we were in at the time. Followed closely by Wood and Barnes thoughLongside4evr wrote:Said on this thread before the game and i'll say it again best strike force we have had since the 70s,when these two are on song and long may it continue, it's up there with the best

Re: Barnes and Wood
Vokes and Ings were(and probably will remain) the only partnership that I’ve seen at Burnley to hit 20+ apiece in a season. At Championship level, too. It’s such a shame that they never got to test their partnership out at Premier League level. We might’ve stayed up at the first time of asking.Bosscat wrote:The V'Ings partnership wasn't too shabby either

With Ings and Vokes playing, we’d arguably have been able to turn some of those draws into wins and some of those close losses into draws.

Dont think with Laws in charge no parnership would have thrived
Clueless disjointed and against the grain of the Matix of our club
File in the Benson category
But good partnership in the Championship this division is a massive step up and both Barnes and Wood have adopted to through sheer graft and good managment UTC

It’s a very easy cupboard to find and I love going inside it
Wood and Barnes both on the scoresheet and in form at the same time .... Burnley fire up the table.
