How big is the palace game

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sat Dec 01, 2018 12:16 am

After our result Monday and Cardiff tonight its huge. Absolutely huge.

If we finish below the likes of cardiff and huddersfield we deserve to go down. Are we THAT bad?

Judging by the table we are that bad the saving grace is so are Palace,Cardiff and Huddersfield are picking up points regularly now,but if we're to get out of the mire we have to take care of business,if we can keep it tight at Palace their crowd might grow edgy and this could translate on to their players.

After Monday it's vital we pick something up against another likely relegation rival, defeat this weekend and an imposing set of pre-Christmas fixtures could leave us staring down the barrel come Auld Lang Syne.

Undoubtedly the biggest game in Burnley's history, no one can argue about that.

If we lose at Palace we still have another 5 months to turn things round. Stop panicking and trying to sensationalise things.

No, we have better players imho, they've just lost their way and it wouldn't surprise me if it's because Dyche is earning twice as much as they are a week if the numbers are to be believed

You`ll have plenty of folks saying "don`t be ridiculous!" but with the current state of play and our current style of play, it is a bloody big game! You had every right to post. Watching us this season at various times between 11pm and 4am has been painful (cue the numpties saying "you din`t have to watch!"). Well, we all know we do, no matter where we are in the football pyramid.

On the surface it does seem ridiculous that people are questioning and unhappy with the current fayre being served up, as we are in the top division. I think we can all accept we belong in the lower regions of the division but at least give us something to get behind. I have hardly had a beer whilst watching us this season so bored have I been. There have been no signs of shoots of recovery either. Our performances against Cardiff and Huddersfield (which amazingly yielded 4 points) were coma-inducing and reminded me of our home game against Rotherham when we first won promotion under Dyche - dire stuff but again with a win!

As they say, it is a results business but I believe we not only need a positive result today (A WIN) but a performance to boot. If we get neither, well...

COME ON BURNLEY, show some fight from the off, be on the front foot from the off and show some attacking intent which we are perfectly capable of! I just PRAY we do not line up with a midfield 2 or we are stuffed.

People can play it down but it's big. The longer we're not picking up points, the more pressure we'll be on to put a run later in the season. Palace have seemingly been as poor as us this season so it will be interesting to see if we make them look like world beaters. What's more, like it or not, an increasing number of fans will start to turn on Dyche if we continue our current form.

All games are important but to stay in the league you need to end up on about 40 points about 1.20 pts per game gives you 45.
So for me we need to look at averaging that plus the shortfall so I think we need to get about 1.44 pts per game. The next 5 games we need and to get 7.2 (8) so we need 2 wins and 3 draws,
For me today has to be a win Brighton has to be a win and Liverpool, spurs or Arsenal a win to get us back on track.
Now I would say how the **** we do that but im sure someone would say score more goals per game that the opposition. easy peoples

We need to get something. But we all know how it’ll go. 30% possession. 1 Shot on Target. Look like conceding everytime they come forward. 3/4-0. Something needs to happen today. More than likely 3 defeats on the spin ahead of Brighton at home with Arsenal, Spurs, Everton after that

It's no different we still need a result regardless of what the outcome were last night we need to concentrate on our own cause and start to deliver something back to the fans.
We are a very patient lot we need to be in this together now talk of venting frustration onto the players is hardly going to help.
Big month a head with some very tricky games time will tell but we all need to be pulling in the same direction and trying to haul our team out of this quagmire or we may find ourselves deep in sinking sand with no way out

Its on a pitch about 100m x 65m, 11 v 11, 1 ref, 2 linesmen and a 4th official.

Its about the same size as every other Football match, apart from the crowd, thats determined by the size and level of support and the gate capacity.....

So its all relative really

Big game and not just for a point ( or 3!!!) But for morale which must be rock bottom now. I saw Newcastle as a must not lose and of course we did
That result puts more emphasis on this match. Hope Barnes gets a start today. I'd fancy him to score.

We’re now at the stage where we need to be targeting certain games to pick up points. It’s too easy and lazy to say that there’s x amount of games or months left, so don’t worry, we’ll pick up points at some stage.

Today is a big game, make no mistake.

Absiolutely spot on.

Sure every game offers the same points. But Clearly 3 points against Palace a fellow relegation struggler is not only theoretically easier than Liverpool. Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs - places we are still yet to go. We only have 2 away games left against the other sides in the bottom 7 fter today. So its not going to get easier.

And thats before the run in against City, Chelsea, Everton and Arsenal.

Good luck to the lads. We need it.

I wonder whether Dyche will come out and say at some point that we’re in a relegation battle?

There’s obviously arguments for and against, but would it focus the minds that little bit more?
