Time to start Ashley Barnes

Post by Bin Ont Turf » Sat Dec 01, 2018 11:44 pm

Ruffle a few feathers, get free kicks up the pitch and the odd unlikely goal.

That's all I've got at the moment. Which isn't as mad as some of the other shite on here.

Mentioned this in the 'shake up' thread. Our two attacks today, (and not our best two, just our two), were instigated by Barnes from just outside our own D. He's a better finisher than Vokes, gets into better positions than Wood, he's better suited to Dycheball, and he wilfully drops deeper than our other strikers which would massively help our tragic midfield.

Theres clearly something not right there. Because he was bang in form and has barely featured. And when he has he is another who looks off the pace. Constantky going back to how he was 18 months ago. Diving. Moaning. Throwing hinself down and basically doing everything than look for the ball or goal.

Personally I would completely change it wednesday.

I would go 3 at the back. Liverpool will have 3 up top and now is as good a time as ever to try that system. Its frightening to think what Mane, Salah and Firminho could do to our flat back 4. At least we could try man for man. Also Gibson certainly needs his chance. Its painfuly predictable how we line up.

This would also allow us to pack the midfield AND play two up top.

Our record with Taylor is very poor. And he has failed to impress in most games. Lowton is also woefuly out of form. So we lose nothing by sacrificing them.

Hart
Tarkowski Mee Gibson
Lennon Hendrick Defour Cork JBG
Vydra Vokes

Looks as good a lineup I can think.

When Barnes has been on this season he has looked no where near his best.

I’ve read a lot of suggestions about what we need to do. Unfortunately though, we’ve some key players who (and I don’t actually think it’s lack of effort) aren’t hitting last years levels. Cork particularly for me just looks like he’s lost a yard. In previous seasons the ball would stick to him, but this year he’s being bullied off it.

I just don’t think we have the personnel we need at the moment. Tweaking formations won’t hide the fact that individually most of the players aren’t achieving the level of performance they were last year... Lowton, Mee, Tarks, Cork, JBG, Barnes, Wood. We needed to supplement and bring players in who can really push the starting eleven.

I think Ward started last season brilliantly, and we looked a much better team with 2 on form full backs. The tail end of the season post injury it looked like the years were catching up with him. Unfortunately I don’t think Taylor offers the protection that ward did at his best.

I’m not sure the blame for the above lies with Dyche. The appointment of a director of football suggests we know we had a problem with recruitment. Unfortunately it’s likely to be the summer before we can really address the issues with personnel. It could be too late. I just don’t see a miracle fix.... if anyone can pull it out the bag though I think it will be the man who has delivered so much over the past few years.

I’m not a huge Barnes fan personally and have commented before about his predictable movement up front (especially when on his own). However there is no question that if the coaching staff can get him up for it he offers the fight that we are lacking.

I’d also change it to a 3/5 at the back and If I’m honest I’d be talking to the players and looking into their eyes to see who was up for a scrap and they’d be the ones I’d pick, if nothing else to get the fans back on side a bit.

I didn’t see yesterday but against Newcastle too many hid behind their opponents, made conservative movement and totally lacked any real confidence in posssesion, themselves or in each other.

Write this one off but Brady needs minutes and Lennon had a problem. That would be my change to your X1 but it is harsh on Kevin Long, who has done nothing wrong.

Something has clearly happened with Barnes. Up until this season he has always been one of Dyche's blue eyed boys who he always made room for. Now he seems completely out of favour?

We need Ashleys determination and confidence-start him for a few games. Haul him off in second half if not working. Time for SD to grow a set and make a few changes

Hart
Lowton Long Gibson Taylor
McNeil Hendrik Tarks Defour JBG
Barnes

Yes I would bring Tarks into midfield !!

My favourite Burnley player but I don't think he'll save us. Regardless, I'd give him a run of games as Wood has been poor. The problem is that if the midfield is completely ineffective, the strikers will be too.

This is some stat since 2014-15, Barnes is one of just five players to score in the Premier League against all of the 'big six' sides along with Sadio Mane, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jamie Vardy and Georginio Wijnaldum.

He definitely has to start against Everton but not alongside Wood.

Folk would have said you needed your head feeling, if you would have told them 4 years ago that we would still be sort of relying on Ashley Barnes after 3 successive seasons in the Premier League, and a little stint in Europe.
