Re: Scott Arfield
The keeper wasn't in control of the ball, he had a right to go for it.
Re: Scott Arfield
He clearly wasn't... and they were wining too, so hardly necessary either
Not sure on the outcome card or result wise, but certainly a challenge that ends up costing your team points.

Is Dunne injured? Not in line up today for Hearts

Re: Scott Arfield
Ball was on the ground, therefore he’s intitiled to go for it. It’s a foul but nothing more. Certainly not a red card.

Far too hesitant. Should have gone in with conviction.

Re: Scott Arfield
Why is that a red card?? I’m not sure it can be classed as dangerous. The ball was there to be won. It’s bad luck on the keepers end, but I’d say that’s an honest challenge. The ball was free. Arfield went for it. The keeper grabbed the ball just before the actual challenge. Just unlucky

If Jimmy Dunne is not on every week starting he should be re- called. He can sit on our first team bench and get a few minutes each week at a better level

Speed of "tackle", out of control, endangering the safety of his opponent.

Re: Scott Arfield
Hearts have failed to score a goal since a knee injury suffered by main striker Steven Naismith playing against Celtic in October.
Expected back mid December when results should start picking up.

Re: Scott Arfield
I think we should get him back. But he wont come. We didn't offer a long enough contract to him. Unlike we did to Sam

Re: Scott Arfield
THAT IS AN APPALING TACKLE !!!
He needs to have a word with some of the team mates he left behind here and they’ll put him straight on how to properly back out of a challenge and not challenge for a ball.

Re: Scott Arfield
Definite red card for me. It's dangerous, end of - ball there to be won or not. Could have easily ended up a Petr Cech like injury.

What about when keepers run into a group of played and punch for a ball away - should that also be banned?NickBFC wrote:Definite red card for me. It's dangerous, end of - ball there to be won or not. Could have easily ended up a Petr Cech like injury.
(I’m genuinely curious as this for me is a similar situation for a player as the ball is on the ground and there to be won)

Re: Scott Arfield
Good question. Has there ever been a penalty given when a keeper has tried to punch the ball, missed it and right-hooked an opposition player?bfccrazy wrote:What about when keepers run into a group of played and punch for a ball away - should that also be banned?

Joe Hart should have given us one against WHU last season.TheFamilyCat wrote:Good question. Has there ever been a penalty given when a keeper has tried to punch the ball, missed it and right-hooked an opposition player?
Re: Scott Arfield
The ball was there to be won, but you can't jump in like Arfield did particularly near someone's head. If a keeper makes a clean punch which isn't dangerous then no issues. Doesn't need banning, otherwise you could ban tackles full stop. If a keeper did punch a player then I assume they would be carded? bit like an overhead kick for example, if it's too high/near a player's face then it's a free kick and possible card?bfccrazy wrote:What about when keepers run into a group of played and punch for a ball away - should that also be banned?

Re: Scott Arfield
Think we’ve all seen a keeper rush in and clean out a player or 2 in the name of clearing the ball and there is usually just a drop ball from wherever the punch lands. No card is produced as keepers have this air of protection around them in that scenario. Like when a player jumps with a keeper to head a high ball and the keeper gets a free kick.NickBFC wrote:The ball was there to be won, but you can't jump in like Arfield did particularly near someone's head. It’s a very grey area and the Arfield challenge was nasty but if that was Arfield on the line facing the other way trying to defend a player running in to score would it be as bad a tackle or brave defending even though he’d clatter into an attacker.

Re: Scott Arfield
I think we should have given him another contract. I think his sale could be one of the reasons for our failure this season.

Thanks INRB, the only person to be given a red card should have been that over excited excuse for a commentator who ever he was.Im_not_Robbie_Blake wrote:Here it is

The ball was in play - the player was entitled to go for it because the ball was in play - the ball went over the line it was a goal, book the goalkeeper for making a meal of the other player's successful attempt to get the ball over the line... and that's it end of list.
Re: Scott Arfield
In the modern game, if you make a genuine attempt to get the ball with a full blooded sliding challenge, but you get there half a second or so late and slide full welly into the man instead, it's a sending off. you could argue that it shouldn't be, if you like, but you'd be arguing that most of the straight reds we have seen in the last 10 years shouldn't have been red cards. The fact that he kicked the head of a goalkeeper who was holding the ball, rather than the ankle of an outfield player who had kicked the ball five yards up the field, is irrelevant.

He did pull his legs back as he slid in but the momentum took him right through.
I'd class it as dangerous so a red is fair but when you've made the decision to go for it and the ball is there to be won there's not much you can do.
