Mee at LB has been tried before and it would be a seriously retrograde step. He was universally regarded as the weakest link until he suddenly switched to CB and became a star. We need to be bold and we need to be imaginative (for a change), but Mee to LB really is pretty much suicidal.

Vokes? I thought you said the most athletic team we've got....Lancasterclaret wrote:The most athletic team we've got to be honest.
Depending on fitness, I'd be very tempted to play Gibson and Long as well
I'd have to reluctantly drop Cork for Westwood and I'd stick with the 4-5-1 with Vokes up front.

Re: Your team for Liverpool....
He's the only striker remotely on form Jakub. He's got to stay centre, hold up the ball and the others get up to support him.
I agree that he goes against the idea of an athletic team, but I just can't see any other striker being effective at the moment.

Fair enough... Barnes for me. We need scrappers and Barnes is the best option we have to be a complete nuisance to the opposition.

Vokes is the closest we have to an in-form striker, but if it’s one up top, then it has to be Barnes.
Three at the back would be a mistake, and like BOT said further up, we would end up with a flat back 5.
I can’t see much else than 4-5-1.
Westwood in for his energy and perhaps Vydra in for a bit of pace and dynamism, although that’s never gonna happen.

He's been well off it this season when I've seen him to be honest but yeah, he'd be the guy if he doesn't go with Vokes.

Not sure about the team, but for formation I would definitely opt for 6-5-4. We may see some of the ball then.

Defour as a free man. Cork and Hendrick as holding players.
Vydra or Barnes up front with hopefully a few though balls from Defour (Woods or Vokes do not move enough to latch on to any through balls....)

Re: Your team for Liverpool....
Brighton on Saturday is a bigger game.
Let everyone who has any sort of knock or fitness issue have a rest on Wednesday so we have our best team ( whatever that is) available for Saturday.
On WEdnesday we should give game time to Gibson, Long, McNeil, Westwood, Hendrick Vydra and Barnes
We will lose whatever but they will all get minutes in the bank and might display that bit of hunger that makes us competitive

Re: Your team for Liverpool....
I'm no manager but will it really matter if players aren't on it or are fed up. It bloody should but nowadays player power and all that. My champ manager pick would be
Hart
Long Gibson Mee
Lowton JBG (wingback)
Defour Cork Hendrick
Vydra
Vokes
I see some people saying vokes can't play up top on his own well he's twice as good at it then wood that's for sure. Vydra can drop off him or go along side him. Might be a good link to the midfield and strikers because let's face it they are miles apart atm. I'd personally rather see changes for Brighton tbh but I get there is a need to try something out for Wednesday just not sure if it'll serve a purpose or not.

He's still trying to surge but when you've got statues in front of you they're easy to mark. The amount of times I see him shrugging his shoulders because the options are limited. Oh and I'm on about Defour not Gray
Wood has a bit of pace but he's ineffective at the moment. He's not making the movement and when the ball is hit up to him it's 50/50 whether he finds a Burnley shirt or not.

Hart
Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor.
JBG, Defour, Westwood, Lennon
Barnes
Vokes
Barnes to drop in to create the extra body in midfield, we have had league and Europa cup games and the formation has been 451 or 442, there will be no change to 352 or 433 now. Just bloody have a go, Would rather see us have a go and lose two or three nil rather than sit back and get hammered like we did against Palace

Wood, one of the worse centre-forwards I've seen in the PL with his back to goal. Stick with Vokes and a 5 man midfield.

Left back is a specialist position. I watched Mee play (too) many games there and he doesn't have it.
Ludicrous to think he can replace Taylor. He can't even currently play to his own position's requirements.

Quite like this line up 1980, also re-: the rumoured fall out between tarks and mee it gives us an option if it doesn't work to revert to long and mee, fully behind the Gk decision, gives Cork a rest and puts hendrick back where he should be and vydra where he can be effective, not quite sure whether I'd prefer vokes though, but absolutely why not give Barnes and start and depending on how it goes get vokes on after 60, utc'sjlup1980 wrote:Heaton

Not playing Heaton, is one of the fundamental reasons why things have gone tits up in my opinion, he's done nothing wrong only get injured for god sake, ok he needed a few games to play himself back in and it may have resulted in losing 2 or 3 but we've done that anyway, why on earth would you make Hart no1 as soon as he walks through her door, this has completely upset the applecart imo. So I took would select Heaton.LoveCurryPies wrote:Why? Given Pope isn't yet an option, I would select Heaton.

We managed to lose to Burton with Heaton in the side, not mentioning the goals he let in away in Greece

Hahahahahaha people still desperate to make Hart the problem whilst Cork puts in 3-4/10 showings week in week out, genuinely incredible
My team for Liverpool? Genuinely not sure, pretty convinced a standard 3-0 defeat is coming - but I’d probably go 4-4-2 with Barnes and Wood up front, Hendrick and Westwood central assuming Defour being “touch and go” means what it usually does. Alternatively, 4-2-3-1 with Vydra behind Barnes.
Still think Wood is our best striker on ability but the form just isn’t there, Barnes deserves his shot.
