Vydra to start v Brighton?

Post by criminalclaret » Wed Dec 05, 2018 10:16 pm

With the shakeup (and rightly so) working well for most parts of tonight's game, have we seen enough of Vydra to have an opening pairing with Barnes for sat?

Wood has looked static for a good while now, no denying that.

I would think that potentially Dyche will go unchanged after tonight's solid enough performance. But would be nice to have Barnes doing his usual argy bargy wind up on defenders which works to great effect. I can see Dunk, Stephens and co getting very wound up by him on Saturday. And then giving space to Vydra to use his pace and skill.

Thoughts for what it's worth?

We saw enough for him to have some involvement. He showed a nice turn of pace. If a little over eager.

But Wood and Barnes deserve another shot. I thought they linked well and created some chances against a good defence. Just a shame Woods confidence is so low as last season he wouldve buried his early chance tonight.

I'd start Vokes with Barnes. Barnes earned a start with tonight's performance. As much as I want to see Vydra, I think I doubt Dyche will start with 2 small men up top.

We need to start with Barnes and Vydra up front, we need to go for it on Saturday. No ifs or buts, we need 3 points.

I'd be tempted to start with Barnes playing off Vokes

Not sure what it is with Wood.

We'd have been one up early on if he had his head on. Wouldn't be disappointed to see him on the bench.

Confidence looks absolutely shot. He needs a goal.

Would play Vydra behind Barnes with JBG and Brady in attacking midfield. Support 4-4-2 against a team like Liverpool but too much reliance on target men will likely be what Brighton want from us

He'll start with the same team or Vokes for Wood. Tough though for Wood and Barnes tonight against two superb centre backs. Play like that and we'll start winning again.

He’s a striker low on confidence a goal will change that.

The side that started 100% deserve the opportunity to play again. They (including Wood) gave everything against the second best team in the country and should be rewarded with the chance and support to go again.

I disagree. With Duffy missing they wont fancy a physical challenge. They faced two very quick, dynamic players in Zaha and Townsend last night and dealt with them fine.

Definitely same starting line up. To a man they deserve to keep their shirt. If the passion is there on Saturday I would try to keep this line up for the next few games. We have done too much swapping this season looking for the right formula. This was the closest we have been so far.

I think probably first time I have agreed with you. A good show tonight...maybe Vokes for Wood as he just isnt quite hitting it at the min

Brady was much improved tonight but still needs minutes if JBG can start getting crosses in from the other side it has to be Barnes/Vokes. We haven’t time to let Wood get his confidence back in the PL.

Yes maybe he is a better fit but we have a starting point today which we need to stick with for a few games.

We were successful when we werent changing the line up every week. These players have the shirts now until January unless injuries change things. Let Wood build up his understanding with Barnes again. Start giving Vydra 30 mins here and there to get him up to speed. Now Tarks looks fit again let him and Mee build up their artnership again. Bardsley deserves that shirt for his passion and endevour tonight. Westwood did more roday than Defour (my fave player at present) has since his injury comeback. We looked stronger in front of the back four and they were better shielded. Let Brady and Taylor grow together for several games.

Wood may ‘need a goal’ but we are in a dire situation, we need to win on Saturday and for me Vydra looks more like scoring and therefore should start. We haven’t got time to be a charity giving out starts to players that are low on confidence and ‘need a goal’. We need wins.

Vydra or Vokes to start alongside Barnes.
Let Wood get his confidence back on the training ground not dolloping about on the Turf.

Wood and Barnes for me, it was a partnership that flourished in our run of victories last March and they linked up well last night.

As for Vydra not sure where the clamour is coming from as we haven't seen enough of him to truly assess his capabilities.

Wood made some errors of judgement at pivotal moments, but his movement really aligned with Barnes’, so it wouldn’t concern me if they both started again. I’d love to see Vydra more though, as I’m sure once he gets up to Premier League speed he’ll bang some goals in.

Knowing SD, we will start with same 11. Glad I went-think commitment rhere in abundance. The Woods /Barnes partnership will flourish with both playing together. There will be no Van Dyke Saturday. Having seem him last night would describe him as Beckenbauer on steroids. Best Centre half I have seen at the Turf since Ledley King in a Cup game

Realised last night how light weight Vydra was, particularly when he dropped deep

I can recall that when Brady first signed for us, he was very slow to find consistent form and certainly split opinion (I was not convinced). Once he was `up and running` though he was pretty much integral to all our successful results, performances and the first name on the team sheet. He needs to be given time and he will again, click and as I think he did before, bring the best out of all those around him (Ward, Brady, Defour and Hendrick were excellent).

It's a difficult one with Wood. He's missed some decent chances in the past few games. On the other hand, not many of our other strikers are getting into positions to miss chances so it's six of one and half a dozen of another.

I could certainly see why he hasn't been playing,!! Vokes didn't start on Wed because of van dyke no point playing high balls when he's about, wood has been very poor but his mobility gives us a bit extra so he and Barnes should start, vydra needs more minutes before a fuller picture of his abilities can be assessed these should be from the bench

I think most of us on here are in agreement that Vydra should be starting but unfortunately it's not up to us and the man making the decision doesn't seem to like him for whatever reason. What that reason is is anyones guess but it has now got to the point where if he did start him for a few games and it turned out to be a great move people will be questioning why Dyche has kept him out for so long.

Who'd be a manager?

Isn’t it great to have Four pretty good central strikers to choose from for a change assuming that Vydra turns out a gooden.

When he came on as sub agin da scousers his first 2 touches were to give the ball away under no pressure. His performance hardly shouted 'start me' next game.

True - think he was trying too hard. His speed and movement though was on a different scale to the other forwards

I'd be surprised if Dyche didn't start with the same 11 as on Wednesday.

I think the only way Wood is likely to get out of his current malaise
is on the pitch and hopefully he can notch the goal that is going to shift him up a gear.

However, if all is not going well then Vydra should come on but with at least 20 mins to go
so he has a decent run out.

The good news is that we've got pretty good cover on the bench if per chance someone gets injured
or we need to change it.

Personally would like to see Gibson given some time playing but that may depend
on injuries and/or how the game is going especially as we've got six games coming up in the next month
and we need everyone to be as match fit as possible.

All this crap about the shake up is rubbish. Dyche grew some ******** and changed his tactics, we went out on the front foot and got stuck into Liverpool.
Lets hope we do the same against Brighton

Unfortunately in the Premier League hard work and getting stuck and fierce tackling makes you feel proud of the effort our team puts in but doesn't actually get you any points. Dyche realised this and identified the players it was vital we signed in the summer.
