Burnley are nearly back

Post by Burnleyareback2 » Wed Dec 05, 2018 11:42 pm

Brilliant tonight, that was so much closer to the team we had last season. Passion, commitment and fight.

I really hope that’s the turning point in the season. If we can play like that every week then I don’t care where we finish, at least we know we put up a fight.

Well done SD, a great reaction in only 4 days.

If anyone can turn this round, it’s SD.

A much more Dyche-like performance. More of the same on Saturday, please.

Against a fine team that was quite a performance. Sad we couldn’t hang on for a draw but we all knew that we were in for a whooping....but it didn’t feel like that.

Also worth pointing out the singing and chanting was better. Good to hear plenty of support for Sean. What if...we survive this season but then go on for a very good season next year?

Ok, we’ve a lot of games to play, but who amongst us thought PL was going to be easy?

Quite a few positives tonight. Felt like the team wanted it. Result flattered Liverpool. Think we need to get more shots off when we create chances but it's a vast improvement tonight.

We need a win on Saturday. The same kind of performance and I'm sure we'll get it. Get into those south coast softies!!!

Bardsley was the catalyst , I'm glad he's back. I like Lowts a lot, but we needed desperately for someone to show that commitment above and beyond. In consequence I thought Ben Mee and Jack Cork had their best games of the season.
Have to mention Ash Barnes who did a similar job up top, he needs to start every game, so unlucky with the 'goal.

I knew they meant business when i saw that they were all in short sleeves, similar to the 1-1 draw against Chelsea for Bradys debut.

A game we were not expected to win (even at home) and against a much changed Liverpool side

A much better performance but we need to show the same against teams like Brighton

Much better, but still gave away very poor goals from a defensive point of view. Stood off Milner and Hart should have done better for the 1st, Tarks lost Van Dyke and Mee lost Firmino for the 2nd. Not going to win games until we stop conceding poor goals

One swallow does not make a summer.

It was a much improved performance,we played on the front foot for a change. It was good to see our full backs attacking the flanks and wide men taking men on and not turning back

The centre mid is still a problem, they both got caught ball watching for the 1st goal, they failed to put a block in.
I would like to see Hendrick get a run of games in centre mid an area were we are poor.

We've still got only 9 points from 15 games which just isn't good enough. However, as angry as I've been after some performances this season, I was very happy with last night's performance. The performances of the players who came in showed Dyche got it right this time. At the very least I wanted to see blood, sweat and tears and that's exactly what we got. However, it means nothing if we just throw one in at the weekend versus Brighton. We simply have to start picking up points and that starts by continuing with those levels of effort and energy.

The very fact we were creating chances was a big plus!

It wasn't even too depressing when they hit their 3rd goal, because it came on the back off us still pushing and fighting for an equaliser. That never say die spirit made all the difference and as good as the Liverpool defence was, I still felt we were capable of scoring.

Absolutely. As Dyche said in the post match interview, no one expected a result against Liverpool, so the pressure was off a little bit. That said, I am feeling far more optimistic and if we can see the same levels of energy and commitment as last night the results will come.

from BBC website:

'...Burnley have taken nine points from their opening 15 games this season. Just three of the previous 18 teams to have won nine points or fewer from their first 15 games of a Premier League season have avoided relegation: Sunderland in 2013-14, Wigan in 2007-08 and Coventry in 1995-96...'

having taken 2 points from last 24...we need to build on last night and be on the offensive against Brighton

That statement is misleading as it doesn't take into account the low number of points the bottom seven clubs have. I think it's lower than it's ever been.

It's all well and good fighting against Liverpool, and we played really well, but we need to be doing this against Brighton, Palace, Huddersfield etc etc. These are the teams we need to be getting results against. If we pick up points against the top 6 then it's a bonus.

I think it was more about the performance last night, than the result as consistent good performances will turn into points. Press, press, press, attack, attack, attack.

Time will tell starting on Saturday but it was good to hear that
the performance was much improved and the fans played their part also.

Hopefully will also do so against Brighton as it's an important 'must not lose, have to win game'
for us especially in light of the next four games to come where, even with a continuation of
improved performances. we'll be fortunate to get more than a few points.
It's wins and 3 points that count now and we''l need to win 7 or 8 more games from the
23 remaining to be in with a chance of staying up.

That's close to a one in three ratio.
No easy task.

I think the thread title is just a tad optimistic. We raised our game (nicely) against a top club who fielded 4 players from their last game and benched their entire forward line. After we scored they brought on the big guns and we were swept aside. Not knocking them for last night but to say we might be 'back' is a bit hopeful. If we can continue this against the teams we need to beat then it will be great but I reserve judgement.

But we weren't swept aside were we? We very nearly scored to make it 2-2 at the very end!

I know you find it hard to give credit sometimes.

I always give credit where it's due, it's just that there isn't a lot of credit to give at the moment. I think it's very difficult to judge a performance against a top side because there are so many variables. They field a full strength side and you get battered - no problem because no-one expects anything else. They field a weakened side and you get a decent result, even if it's an honourable defeat like last night - you are left wondering what would have happened if they'd been at full strength. Most lesser teams raise their game against top class opposition so it is often not an indicator of how well you are at the time.
Our 'big games' are not against Liverpool or United or Chelsea etc., they are against Huddersfield and Cardiff and Fulham and the like, they are the ones that matter. If we can start winning those games, or even not losing them, then I will be more impressed than I am with a very good performance against Liverpool reserves.
I really hope that we can play more like last night on Saturday at Brighton because that will fill me with more confidence. At the moment we need to batten down the hatches, carry out damage limitation then see what the window brings, if anything.

This ******** about how weak Liverpool were, granted they made changes but which of our starting 11 last night gets in theirs ?

It has been mentioned how easy it is to get up for the big games, just like we did with Man Utd and Chelsea this season ? It seems some people have been that long negative it has become hard to give any credit.

I don't think it's a must win on Saturday. I think we need another good performance whilst also avoiding defeat.
