Chris Wood

Post by ontario claret » Thu Dec 06, 2018 6:51 pm

Time to put him on the bench for a while. Totally lacking in confidence right now. Combination of Vokes and Barnes is the better option, especially if we can get some degree of control in the midfield, which is a distinct possibility vs. Brighton.

No, we keep him on. He's getting into potential scoring positions and is not hiding - he'll score soon, no problem.

Hopefully he can start to perform soon. But based on his form this season, you're right, he shouldn't be starting.

It's a tough one. In one sense, Wood is our most natural goalscorer, and he and Barnes linked up nicely last night at times. On the other hand, Wood is clearly struggling for confidence right now and looks a bit of a shadow of the player we saw score pretty prolifically last season.

Barnes did really well last night, and so I'd go with him again, but there is a temptation to pair him with Vydra and see how they get on together.

The other change I'd still consider, despite him scoring last night, is Hendrick for Cork. Cork's an excellent player and he had a good hour or so last night, but he faded badly again and he doesn't look to be entirely fit, and in any event Hendrick and Cork has always looked like a very natural partnership when we've paired the two of them in the centre.

Frustrating the number of times he gets caught offside.

Desperately needs a goal. Dosent work hard enough for me.

Would drop him for Vydra and pair with Barnes if 4 4 2

Its not as plane sailing as that, Mr Dyche rarely goes against the grain.

What really stands out is lack of pace up front. Wood is really slow, and Vokes and Barnes don't exceed 3rd gear too often either. To me, watching Wood is like watching slow motion replays - slow to react, slow of thought and slow in movement. I hope we trade him in for a better model!

Played against the best centre half in the league last night. Not easy though Barnes made them know they were in a game. I'd go with him and Barnes for now.

Id give him one more game with Barnes. It's his old club on Saturday and he used to play with Barnes there so should be up for it. Last chance saloon for me though. Reminds me of Chris Iwelumo but stoned

He's doing enough to keep his place.

Have to admit to being a big fan of Vokes, but the extra movement him and Barnes gave us last night could be crucial.

It does look like the partnerships should be Wood-Barnes and Vokes-Vydra.

I think I'd be happy with either on Sat, but not mixed up (if you know what I mean)

I think it would have been a different game if Wood had stuck that early one away. There was a marked improvement but he wasn't part of it.

He is shot, in fronted of goal and not the best elsewhere. If he was a soldier in the front line of WW1, he would have shell shock! Needs a break.

Thought he looked jaded at times last night. I assume its more a confidence issue rather than fitness. needs a lucky one to get him going again but I'd be tempted to go with Vokes while we're looking for those first wins.

I'm still struggling to work out what kind of a striker Wood is. He's not great in the air or at holding the ball up so you would assume running in behind might be his game....but he doesn't really do that either. A better (and quicker) version would be very welcome come January.

Leicester let him go, that's all you need to know. He's a good player but no more than that at this moment in time imho. For someone his size he gets out muscled far too much. He needs to watch Barnes closely on how to win free kicks etc. To be fair he probably just needs one to go in off his arse to get his confidence back

Imagine a technically better (two footed) striker or a pacier forward getting the chances/half chances that Wood has had in the last two home games....

He just doesn't seem to have the pace to get away, the strength to bully or the confidence to have a pop no matter which side the ball falls to.

I think it's obvious we need better quality up there.

For his stature it's knot unreasonable to expect more. He often looks rooted to the spot and sapped of energy.
He should dovetail more with Barns.

If I was being paid to be a scout, I would hope I could come up with numerous alternatives who I thought could offer more than any of our current forwards.

The first chance he had last night he could have pulled the trigger. Took a touch, had it blocked, and I knew we'd get nothing from him.
Has zero confidence needs to find it before he starts again.

Rumoured to be going for 25m. Late bloomer. Too big a price for a gamble.

Rather go in for Krzysztof Piątek at Genoa. At 23 looks like he is going tp be some player.

Have to agree completely. And thatd a frustrating thing. As in that department we should be well stocked and had we stayed in europe plenty of games for both partnerships.

Still our best striker IMO. Not sure I’d play him over Barnes on his own atm, but in a partnership he’d by my first choice. His movement is vastly superior, firmly believe one goal will open the floodgates.

His offsides are a frustration and he is clearly lacking confidence but sometimes (not always) his offsides are caused by the delay in actually passing it. Quite often our midfielders don’t spot a forward pass until they are literally telegraphing what they are about to do.
