Tony Philliskirk new under 18 coach
Someone mentioned Tony Philliskirk on the Wood thread yesterday (think it was nonaynever) ... hadn't really thought much about Tony in over 20 years lol, and lo and behold up he pops on the Burnley website as the new under18's coach.
Taking over from Danny Cadamarteri ....
Good luck Tony

Good luck Tony.
The only player I've ever heard get boo'd off after scoring a hat trick.

Will be watching how he fairs as a coach on Tuesday when our under 18's take on Oxford in the FA youth cup at Turf Moor 7pm KO....
Danny Philliskirk mentioned on Radio Lancs playing for Blackpool must be his Lad

I didn't know that Danny Cadamarteri had left.
Where has he gone ?
He didn't last too long.

Re: Tony Philliskirk new under 18 coach
I think he would be the first person to admit that he was not the greatest player on the planet but I think he may surprise you as a coach.
Re: Tony Philliskirk new under 18 coach
He left in October to "pursue other coaching opportunities" ...... whatever that means ...Funkydrummer wrote:I didn't know that Danny Cadamarteri had left.

Had been the under 18's coach for a year with us.
He was a bit of a journeyman as a player too lol

Bit of a thug and more off and on the pitch, back in the day. Not sure if he’s grown up a bit.Bosscat wrote:He left in October to "pursue other coaching opportunities" ...... whatever that means ...

He’s at AFC Fylde now. His dad is his agent. Nowhere near as tall as you’d, unless he’s got some shrinking disorderBosscat wrote:Barnet if memory serves lol...

That doesn't sound very good - a football agent coaching young players!
Surely there's a conflict of interest there? (Unless he signed an agreement not to represent any of them, of course!)

Philiskirk is actually a really good appointment...he’s very highly regarded!
We’ve done well here.
Well done Burnley.

It's his Dad who's the agent, not him.Dougall wrote:That doesn't sound very good - a football agent coaching young players!

All the very best of good fortune, on your return to Burnley FC Tony.
The last I knew of Tony, was as a coach of the youth team at Oldham and at one point he may have been stand in first team manager. Ive found him to be a very quietly spoken man and he always had time to have a chat, the times I've met him while he was involved with Oldham.

Re: Tony Philliskirk new under 18 coach
When he finished playing (a long, long time ago btw) I'm sure I read somewhere that he was being fast tracked to the top as a referee because not enough former players went down that route and there was some kind of "drive" on. Clearly it came to nothing, not just in terms of Philliskirk himself, but more generally.

I read an interview that he stated that by the time he could ref at a decent level he was too old by the time the opportunity came. Former players becoming refs will cause nothing but unwanted scrutiny anyway.Dark Cloud wrote:When he finished playing (a long, long time ago btw) I'm sure I read somewhere that he was being fast tracked to the top as a referee because not enough former players went down that route and there was some kind of "drive" on. Re: Tony Philliskirk new under 18 coach
What’s he achieved as a coach of youngsters in the game to get a job at Premier Burnley then?

Re: Tony Philliskirk new under 18 coach
scored one of the best goals I've ever seen on the Turf, shame it was in a reserve game !
Re: Tony Philliskirk new under 18 coach
Presume he had a hand in Tarkowskis development?
Re: Tony Philliskirk new under 18 coach
Whatever happened to him at Oldham? I remember there was a suspension with no info as to why and never saw anything after that.

He was in charge of a game I played in many moons ago. It started to get a bit tasty at one point and he made us feel like children nipping each other. Seemed like a really good blokeDark Cloud wrote:When he finished playing (a long, long time ago btw) I'm sure I read somewhere that he was being fast tracked to the top as a referee because not enough former players went down that route and there was some kind of "drive" on. Re: Tony Philliskirk new under 18 coach
Didn’t he try refereeing for a time?
Re: Tony Philliskirk new under 18 coach
Depends upon the profile of the player, I’d think. I’d happily see a scheme that picks up ‘cast off’ players and gives them the opportunity of a career as a referee.claptrappers_union wrote:I read an interview that he stated that by the time he could ref at a decent level he was too old by the time the opportunity came. Some of the referees we see are so bad, you’d think they’d never played the game.

Re: Tony Philliskirk new under 18 coach
Brought Tarks through the ranks at Oldham and highly regarded as one of the best coaches around so we have done well here. He could have had a job at Man City Academy coaching the Under 16's but stuck with Oldham so he is a loyal person which means alot as well.South West Claret. wrote:What’s he achieved as a coach of youngsters in the game to get a job at Premier Burnley then?
